Any tips for how to avoid the Garuda insta death thing during the Eye phase? i understand the rest of the fight after watching the video and giving it a few tries, but even after moving with the tank to avoid it i died when I was right next to him. What is the visual queue I'm not seeing?

I read that the tank limit break is a godsend for this moment.

When you're in the eye of the storm, Garuda teleports twice. The first time, she will still be in the center with you; just get behind her (and actually stand away from your tank at this point because she will cleave when she goes active). The second time, she ports to the rock on the north side of the room, and will do what is essentially a GIANT cleave. Stay as far to the south/opposite side of her as possible while remaining inside the eye of the whirlwind; no damage taken.

Has anyone been successful in creating a character on Ultros today, should I even bother refreshing the server list?

Is keyboard turning when you use D or A to turn your character? I use my keyboard for all movement, but I just hit the strafe key to get out of AoEs. Why would using the mouse be a benefit?

Mouse turning keeps your left hand free to hit your buttons. It goes hand in hand with keybinding.. you either keyboard-turn and click, or you mouse-turn and keybind. In WoW, the 1.5 GCD and crazy rotations make it very difficult to be a clicker. In FFXIV, it's 2.5 and the rotations are not as complicated, so either way can work. If you're tanking, though, it's almost impossible unless you mouse-turn and have keybinds.

Geeze, this game is so time consuming. I got my gladiator to level 13, got a pugilist to level 2. Got mining, goldsmithing, and just found out about guildleve's, unlocked duty finder but afraid to use it.

What if I use keybinds and use my keyboard to turn? Am I just crazy?

Just beat Garuda. Holy shit that was intense. The healer called my last minute MP song clutch which is actually the first time I've been properly congratulated in an mmo. Felt pretty good :)

Music was awesome too.

How long does Tank limit break last?

LB1 -10% damage taken for 10s
LB2 -20% damage taken for 15s
LB3 -50% damage taken for 12s

or in other words, long enough, though for the most part, rarely need to use it. First time was on Garuda, actually, and that's only to allow for a larger margin of player error when it comes to saving pillars.

Ok, I think this will help me a lot. It's the giant cleave that was getting me, I understood up until that point but I just could not see where to stand at all. I knew she was teleporting away but I was trying to sidestep it instead of standing back lol. Thanks a bunch!

Q though, does she always teleport north or is it random?

I just installed Sweet FX and am getting an error when I attempt to run the launcher for FFXIV:

"The program can't start because MSCVR100.DLL is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

Um, what? How did something get deleted when pasting files into a folder?

Strafe isn't keyboard turning. Keyboard turning is when your character turns slowly in place.

I use keybinds and use my keyboard buttons to strafe (A and D, where the keyboard turn would have been). If you can keyboard turn and use keybinds, I'd like to get you in front of a piano.

For normal Garuda, it's always the same locations. You may have to double check North/South stuff, because I wasn't really paying too much attention, but only one of the sides has a giant rock, I think.

Phase 1:
Ports to big rock
Ports to opposite end
Ports to center but spawns adds
Ports to center for THE RECKONING

Phase 2 as describe previously

I really enjoyed Titan and Garuda on normal, and when I have some downtime, I can see myself running it again just for kicks.

MMO protip:

Bind your Strafe Left to A and Strafe Right to D. You don't need to keyboard turn when you can hold down the right click of your mouse and do the same turns, way more efficiently.

Man, you have the best screenshots. I have to get SweetFX up and running. What specs do you have?
Thanks, but my screenshots are slightly disingenuous, I guess you could say. Like "bullshots".

Before taking the screenshot, I change the resolution to 3840x1620 (at about 15fps), snap the shot, then go back to 1080p and resume gameplay.

Even if you had a GPU capable of running the game at a playable framerate at that resolution (I think a GTX 780 or above can), the UI scales with the res.

I mean, it's not like the game looks that much different with the downsampling, it's just for a nice extra bump for the screenshot, because why the fuck not?

The community on this game is pretty awful. I ran across someone shouting about being scammed and everyone told them just to shut up about it and post on forums. I don't even expect that total passivity from WoW user base.

Been pretty tame on Levaithan. Of course I've only been to one major city so far, Ul'dah.

It's pretty bad, the whole world chat is like the Barrens chat used to be. At least in WoW it was almost exclusive to that zone, here it's almost everywhere. That's why I just read guild chat

It's worse outside of the main zones for me. Go into any zone in the game right now and it is pretty much Barren's chat, way too hostile with total lack of respect for other people.

Yea agreed. It's just all over. You're pretty much stuck to joining a FC and hoping it turns out well.

Okay well, I found the download for the dll, and got the launcher to work. Now the game just crashes as soon as I click play. :/

May just stick with FXAA until the DX11 version of the engine is released.

All I see is "LFM Fate group, tell me" and FC ad spam, :P

oh no, have to run Castrum Meridianum and The Praetorium after tonight; what's awful about them?

It's just long and, depending on your party, may or may not be enjoyable. I don't want to say too much. First time through is probably going to be fine though.

As a Healer, (or anyone really) is there a way to target someone without switching target from the mob?

I know there is the ability to have a secondary target from your main target, but in this case you have to keep retargeting your secondary target after every skill.

As in example, I want to target the mob for offensive spells, but have a soft target with no reticle on the tank for all healing/boon spells that I happen to cast. I was watching a video and it seemed like this was possible.

On an unrelated note, why are people making Macros with 2.5 sec wait times? At the later levels won't this be lowered through gear and other buffs (Scholar Pet's - Fey Light/Fey Glow ability), better to keep it piecemeal.

I think the macros only work at half second timers. For crafting it doesn't matter because, well, crafting.

As for targeting, go to character config and then filters

/ac "Cure" <tt>

^ This will cast Cure on your target's target. Generally though, it's better if healers macro their attack spells to <tt>, while keeping your tank or party member as primary target.

A) <tt> should be Target's Target, I think. So that'll heal the character the mob is targeting. I actually should use that for cures, lol. It should work if you make a macro. So you're always targeting whoever he's hitting. I'll need to test it out when I get home.

B) 2.5 was an example. Might want to read more carefully.

would a macro using <tt> on offense spells work for you? i have my stone ii macro set to <tt> and <t> with error messges off

i guess it's like...the reverse of what you're asking lol

Okay that one Buried Quest...quest...kinda annoying trying to find the spots when you have to climb all over the area and they're kinda well hidden.

yeah, they're in strange spots that you wouldn't think you can reach considering the amount of strange invisible walls in the game
