for the love of everything holy, i can not beat the History Repeating quest. anyone have ANY idea how to beat it? i have no problem beating the siren's first few spawn groups but as soon as the last group pops theres a really strong mob and like 5 or 6 smaller ones and i always get stomped.

i have Brass Earplugs in my key items, but i have no idea what to do with them :(

Pull the adds out of her aoe regen when she cast it, once she starts spawning bubbles run away from them, they will wreck you. I found dropping my job (monk) so I could use Cure between the spawns and taking all the defensive cds from glad/war/lancer/pug/cnj really helped.

The earplugs are just a quest item for all I know, I never used them.

So I'm level 46 and have just plain run out of quests/hunting logs... do you seriously have to grind fates for 3 levels till 49 when the next story mission starts? or am I missing a quest hub somewhere? Have done all of Mor Dhona and Northern Thanalan has nothing quest-wise, checked the 40+ areas in east/south shroud and southern thanalan and can't find anything.

I'm getting seriously sick of fate grinding... This game feels unfinished in the late game, the further you get in the story the less and less side quests you find. If this is a design decision, its a pretty shitty one. At this rate I'm gonna burn out on this game before they even charge me a sub.

My biggest worry as well, and I keep reading lots of similar complaints. I may just hold out from subbing once the free month expires until the PS4 version hits, hoping the planned content patches between now and then help sty-my this issue.

I want to do copper bell, but my linkshell is inactive when I can play. Duty finder as a THM sucks. Waited an hour.

I have a CNJ at 20, but I've never played one in a group and it makes me nervous. I played WHM in FF11 up to about level 40, and was pretty good at it. Am I worrying about nothing? Should I just man up to whale cancer?

I'd never played a healer prior to this game, I found the first 3 dungeons pretty easy as a healer, even if you have a bad tank you can usually heal through having a few mobs hitting you. Do the first few guidheists for practice if you want, they're really easy to heal.

dont you only have cure at that level

just cure stuff lol

Yeah I read daily quests are supposed to be coming in 2.1. I wonder if these will just be max level or they'll be more like leves. Which is kinda weird because I kinda thought leves were this games dailies.

Really not sure what to do now. Northern Thanalan has hundreds of people grinding fates, each fate last literally seconds. I have about 50 leve allowance, I guess I could just spam those and hope I get close to 49.

So now I can but get in the game with ease... but now I get a BILLION buy gold messages lol... figures, they should let you just right click and block a person or something of the sort.

Took some awesome Behemoth pictures last night.
Players were able to defeat him in both fates, but the amount of dead bodies piling up provided some comic relief :D

Note: I'm not running this game on the most powerful hardware, so the amount of characters on screen is drastically reduced from what it really was. It was difficult seeing behemoth on my screen for half the fight. Hell sometimes I even died without knowing what and how it me.

Okay, it's official, Malboro's/Stropers are my least favorite foe in the entire FF series lol.

I got killed 4 times when doing a quest by them. I didn't feel proud. God damn that AOE.

Level up CNJ for Cure or Arcanist for Psychick or whatever it's called. Actually I'm not too sure if they are compatible with THM for cross-class skills.

Will check into it. Just arrived at level 30 for THM so I will get LV15 for Archer so I can have my Black Mage.

for those of you who have a naga/g600, I found this hotbar setup over on the ffxiv subreddit and decided to make it myself. really makes things a lot easier.

Interesting. I still use the keyboard.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, Q, E, Alt-Q, Alt-E, Alt-1, Alt-2, Alt-3, then all my Naga keys.

FATE is almost unplayable on PS3

Interesting. Have you not been mixing up the content?

I join a FATE group for an hour, then maybe knock out a few quests, then run a dungeon, and so on.

I'm level 42 and I'm doing the level 39 quest hub quests. I don't mean to say anything like "you're doing it wrong", but I have too much content. If you stick just to questing, then, yeah, I guess you can run out.

Lol they've always been my last favorite in every single FF game. It's remarkable how they've kept them consistently annoying throughout the years.

They have been for me, I thought surely they couldn't get any worse than the ones from VIII or X but lo and behold, they're just as bad. What's worse is having one come out of nowhere and snipe you with Bad Breath, it's pretty much over after that lol.

I got killed 4 times when doing a quest by them. I didn't feel proud. God damn that AOE.

Same here, the huge area for their Bad Breath surprised me. Oh well, did the quests so hopefully I don't have to deal with them again.

So what are people doing to make their TAB targeting not suck?

I don't really want anything too complicated. I just want TAB to target the nearest enemy first and I can't get it to do that. It always ends up cycling through ones that are completely out of range. In FATES for example there will be a group of 4-5 enemies and TAB will ignore them in favor of ones way in the back.

Tab is Next Target

You want Nearest target, that's a different bind - no idea what the default is, but change it to something convenient

As a THM you can use cure but once you are a BLM it won't let you. You can use Physik as a BLM though so just get that from arcanist.

So yeah I just finished the main storyline. And it's the best FF game released this generation.

Now I know where all the Versus13 devs went to.

The ending of this game is hype beyond belief. God I hope this means Squenix has emerged from it's Lost Generation and the PS4 generation will bring us back to great JRPGs.

SMN is almost straight DD, they don't bring terribly much utility aside from some off-heals. SCH on the other hand has a full bag of tricks though they aren't as good at direct strong heals as WHM. (Which isn't to say they aren't good healers - they are - they just excel more in mitigation and shields)

And sustain. The faeries easily make up half of my healing if you count the Whispering Dawn regen, they spam the single target one, and it's all free. That's not including Aetherflow/Energy Drain either.

blm can use acn and arc skills, i recommend leveling acn up till 12 for virus, it can help i guess, i use it on my Dot+debuff macro
still wondering if i should level acn till 34 for eye for an eye, any opinions from sch/smn on that skill? how useful is that?

It may work out something like SCH are better healers for PLD, and WHMs for WARs, on account of the way their mitigation/hp pools work.

But that's probably only really ultra high end tough fights, and even then, a lot of it hinges on encounter design - different fights have different amounts of spike damage vs continuous damage or group/raid wide damage.

Honestly I'm pretty happy with the classes from what I've seen so far, I hope we don't end up with any situation where a tank or healer is being excluded on a tough fight because stupid rumors and spread about their viability. (who am I kidding, this is guaranteed to happen. GEAR CHECK PLZ)

When I fight cancer on the PS3 it usually disappears. :(

Still usually get around 20k exp when I'm in a party though.

I'm just glad he's big, smaller boss FATE fights are impossible to locate at times. Couerlking in the North Shroud is almost impossible to target at times because so many players are swarming him, lol. Still I feel sorry for my fellow XIV players on the PSTriple, I hope they fix that.

Did maybe 10 Hard Ifrit runs last night and everything was going great except for two of them where I died 4 times each. I don't know if its the inherent lag in the PS3 version or because I'm playing on a NA server from Korea, but I could swear I did not get hit by his Radiants and Charges but still ended up getting smashed. Doesn't help that DRG's magic defense is terrible. Could be just me.. but the hit detection seems inconsistent? I was fine on the other 8 runs. We ended up winning both times, but I felt superbad for the WHMs who had to keep raise me.

I was so frustrated I ended up tossing my controller (which I never do) on the last death and gave up and started playing Tales of Xillia. I think this was the first time I got truly annoyed by FFXIV.

Hahaha probably not if you actually played it.

I played it, and I like the pace better. While ARR has you running and dodging stuff more, I'm not sure if that really holds up. I much prefer dealing with taking damage and using evasion cooldown anyway (i.e. more strategic over awkward action). ARR has better content, but I like the battle system (including jobs, etc) from 1.23 better.

Beat the main scenario. Kind of disappointed in a sense, but I'm pretty sure it could be called great by MMO standards. The final dungeon is great all around, but everything else (especially the dozens of hours you'll spend on random detours) I felt like could have been a lot better. The detours are not the problem (I mean they can be very amusing and help build the world), but the story feels rushed and empty because important matters are tightly shoved between filler. You mainly see this with the villains. With some exceptions at the very end, the villains are about as fleshed out as FFXIII's. They do finally give Gaius some much deserved characterization (at least on the level of the 7th umbral era arc), but I don't see why it took 50 levels to get it. Anyway, I was really questioning the storyline around lv. 47~, but the final dungeon was worth it. I mean I was still disappointed in the ways I thought I would be, but they at least didn't fuck it up.

What is unfortunate is how poor the content is outside dungeons and primal battles (and I assume guildhests, though I haven't done them since beta). It is completely uninteresting stuff and very time consuming. Most sidequests, including the job quests (which were awesome in 1.0) are without note. So if I were to be honest, I would say FFXIV sucks as a videogame roughly 70% of the time while going through the solo-centric, guided main scenario. Side-quests, most main scenario quests, and certainly FATEs (in populated areas anyway, but even then) are just not good content. FATEs in particular is a goddamn nightmare scenario of what a bad battle system would look like.

The FATE parties trend is just bleak. Since I was pressed for time I had to partake in it for the last half of lv. 49 (needless to say, this game will force you to take part in FATEs or repeat dungeons, especially in the 40s when quests dry up for some reason.) People idle on their mounts watching their map, doing nothing, and then rush in droves to the next FATE. What happens next could simply be described as an utter clusterfuck where there is no threat of death and the "challenge" is dealing with the game's character display limits, lag, framerate, and claim-based rewards (if you don't get a claim, which is very difficult outside a full party, it is almost impossible to get EXP for individual monsters). Just the sight of it (and the frame-rate hit) is pretty gross, but partaking it reinforces the idea just how garbage MMOs can be and how acceptable that is. FATEs are this games open-world EXP party and NM system counterparts combined and it is the worst piece of videogame content I've played in a decade. Just by existing I can't help but look down on this game, which I will so easily forgive because of my odd love for FF MMOs. I imagine things will only get uglier as the main scenario becomes less relevant to the population at large and people have little to do between updates.

EDIT: Besieged and Campaign, though they certainly had their issues, made a lot more sense because the former took place in a big ass zone and the latter wasn't THE overworld content in the game.

Ok that was it, im done with randoms
start bitching at me like crazy because Ifrit was immune to the stun on very last eruption.
I think im ok with my bigdaddy gear.

I try to stick away from dungeons if I can... and i rarely get anything good there :(

I think my boots might be from that set though.
Yea took me 20 tries for just the chest.

It should be fine for now anyway. WHM raw healing is noticeably better and that matters (which is good) but SCH damage mitigation paired with WHM raw healing is extremely powerful. The two compliment each other quite well in a raid.

I'm sure there are a bunch of new quest chains that open up around 46/47. I believe they start in Waking Sands or the main cities. There's one where you deal with Pirates/Sahagins, origns of Odin, and there are like 2 others.. I still have them incomplete since I hit 50 before I completed them.

Really love the core mechanics of the game but as I start getting to the higher levels (44 now) the more group content is putting me off the game.

None of the content really seems enjoyable or thought out. There are a handful of fights that are fun and fresh but the majority of dungeon encounters seem like SE tried to see how many AoEs they could cram into the encounter to make it seem challenging.

I might be alone in my opinion but it just starts to feel tedious after a while. There seems to be more focus on cramming in AoE attacks than making unique and fun content.

Also seems like they had two different philosophies, especially when it comes to DPS. They want to make positioning really important in terms of getting the maximum ability out of your class but then they design encounters so that you have to run around like a chicken with your head cut off. Just ends up being a bit tedious and frustrating.

Who knows, maybe I've just hit a rough patch with the last couple dungeons and it's not indicative of the end game experience.

fucking really?

you can't mount and have your chocobo summoned?

what about LE mounts and what not?

this game must suck for casting classes. must be infuriating canceling spells in dungeons while running away from aoe.

Every dungeon from Aurum Vale on features some pretty fun boss mechanics. The HM primals are great, and from what I've been seeing of Binding Coil, the fights there are just as intense.

Completely agree on this. FATE is just a bunch of mindless school of piranhas on a feeding frenzy. Its great EXP but it's the one thing I really despise about the game. It's probably why I won't level another DoW or DoM job until Blue Mage, Dark Knight or Samurai come out. Hopefully by then the FFXIV team will have a better solution. Maybe give more exp in dungeons?

I'm not sure if there is a main scenario encounter in this game that beats "To Kill a Raven". Maybe the two bosses before the final one?

I don't think the final quests of the main scenario gained anything by being 8-man.

EDIT: It is really weird how there is such little reason to go back to certain dungeons (or even do them at all). AF is so easy to get and also completely makes dungeon gear pointless. The game doesn't have room within the stats to have two good pieces of gear in one slot too.

I love dungeons where you get through by the skin of your teeth, and are dead - and your last dude manages to get it done. sogood.gif

I don't get all the FATE downer talk. It's a mindless frenzy simply because that are way too many people doing them, even for SE's planning. Have you guys low manned any FATEs? I remember doing cancer during one of the betas with only and handful of people and wiping constantly. Same with Gorgeimeira or w/e.

The mechanics of FATEs are fine, they're fun and interesting. It's just lessened by the sheer amount of people playing and using them for the exp grind.

They need to either create more incentive to gain EXP through other areas, or make FATEs scale, especially NM/HNM FATEs. Also fix the mob loading issue.
