VITA NEW MODEL Announced with built in 1GB memory!!

Yeah they aren't going to keep the OLED Model in production. This is all about maximizing profits now. Turn the Vita Profitable and just let it go. No matter how many it sells from that point on Sony will at least be making money. However long OLED models lastg will be upto supply chain and what's available. It could push sales up short term as people decide OLED is what they prefer.

OG vita is a gift to gamers just like OG ps3. Now the real money starts rolling in.

Didn't the OLED have burn in issues? Don't care about removal if it gets me a thinner Vita with longer battery, built in memory too... Might actually buy a Vita finally

Yeah, burn-in's a deal breaker for me, so I don't know why exactly people are getting miffed.

Hmmm, pretty disappointing revision. I'll stick with my white fatty.

But the 64GB card is intriguing, if I don't have to take out a loan to buy one.

Sorry, I came across harsher than I meant. I suppose it is a year earlier than the PSP 2000, but it's right in line with Nintendo's standard ;)

Plus it's not like your Vita's going to stop working. It'll still work just as well--and it'll still have the better screen

No worries. Better battery life and lighter are good counterarguments for the new model though, especially since you can't swap the battery on the Vita.

If it supports micro usb why do we care about a 64 gig memory card? Can't we use the micro usb for storage? Otherwise what is it's purpose?

No OLED and 1GB built in memory are sad moves :( will stick to the original and perhaps but a Gen1 and hound it one day. Hope they reintroduce OLED in the next revision. Colours are nice though

Shame about the OLED removal, as that screen was gorgeous. Everything else is hitting the right notes though, aside from the 64GB card which would require re-mortgaging.

Launching two days before Pokémon though...I laughed.

Also disappointed with all the new colors, and there's no gold like this sexy beast:

why would you want to be porting around an external hard drive to hook up via micro usb...

perhaps you're thinking of micro sd

I'm heading to Japan in October. There's no reason why it won't work back here in Australia right?

Why couldn't the pink be red :(

Will pickup either white or green.

It's more like 4 steps forward, 2 steps back.

OLED to LCD is a big deal, but I still think the new console should be superior.

I mean damn, I had to buy a knockoff cable off amazon cause I wasn't paying retail for the official Vita USB Cable.

Better battery
USB Micro support
Thinner/lighter

All 3 of those are things that I want. However, it's disappointing they took out the OLED screen. I have a current Vita and I love its screen.

Any word on pricing? Is it going to be the same price as the current Vita?

I knew it was a good idea to sell both my vitas.

I don't like that they took out the OLED but I'll save my judgment when I can see one in person.

What's the pricing on the 64GB memory card? And what does this new model look like exactly? The gif in the OP isn't helping with that.

To transfer data between Vita and PS3/PS4? Might be faster using micro USB than the proprietary port that is used now?

It's basically the same price, yeah.

I want to wait and see what hands-on impressions say about the screen. I'm sure it looks about as good as a solid smart phone, at the least.

I think I saw a sexy Baby Blue Vita. Do want so bad. That way I can have two :) Anyone know where to get a new glass panel for the Vita? It'll replace the scratches I have.

Thinking of getting the current Vita now because I do want that OLED screen, so this new model will replace the old one? I was hoping I can still get a Vita with OLED in 2 year's time.

Removing OLED was a good choice, I'm sure it brings down the BoM and in the long run this will help put Vita's in the hands of consumers.

I've honestly never had an issue with the battery and have found it holds charge for longer then my 3DS XL.

Disapointed by the change to LCD, as the current screen is gorgeous in person. also, as others have said, 1GB just isn't enough. 4 GB would have been a better start in my opinion.

I feel a little cheated for being an early adopter.

Really? It's been out in Japan for nearly two years, and in the West for over 18 months now. At this point with any console, a cost-cutting redesign is pretty much standard practice now.

Edit - what on earth is the point in an internal 1GB of memory though? That's such a tiny amount to be basically pointless. The launch day Killzone Mercenary patch was over 1GB!

Good news on the memory card front, shame about the new screen, but still no HDMI out is a deal breaker for me. Guess I'll have to wait for the next revision.

LCD display? 1gb internal memory?

Go home Sony, you're drunk.

What's wrong with built in memory?

You no longer have to buy a card for saves if you go non digital, plus the batttery is better, the Vita is lighter/slimmer, and it uses non-proprietary micro-USB cables.

If the screen looks noticeably inferior, it'll be the only drawback.

thread title misled me into thinking this was an amazing model

But no OLED and 1GB of internal memory? yawn

3g +wifi will continue 24000 yen(inc tax)(£150 or $240) for bundle including 32gb memory card and some games.
