VITA NEW MODEL Announced with built in 1GB memory!!

For some reason when I read the title I thought it has 1GB ram. 1GB built in memory is good I guess! Works out of the box this time.

If the screen looks good, I'm in for the green model. Otherwise, I'm hanging onto my OLED Vita.

Good move, though. More people need to experience this wonderful device!

I love how we got ppl in this thread acting like OLED on vita is so godlike, but we also got a big thread here on neogaf complaining about Vita OLED burn-in with some of those same people from this thread in that thread.

If Sony pulls off the switch to LCD/LED right and it still looks good without the OLED burn in then I'm all for it. On top of that it's thinner, lighter, comes in some pretty sexy colors , and dat micro usb. Also the 1gb internal is nice for people to play games from retail with no probs and you can still download small mb games like Hotline Miami.

This is a good step for sony imo, now the next thing they need to do is advertise the shit out of this and get a crapload of more games first party and third party
Fuck that, I've never had burn in issues and would never give up an oled display in favor of vastly inferior (I can't state that enough) display technology. It's a HUGE downgrade and one I hope never appears elsewhere.

LCDs are garbage for gaming.

OLED and LCD both have their pros and cons to me - I'm okay with either one.

I don't like that "frame" around the screen they put on the 2000 though.

No OLED thank god, will buy.
I hope the "dat oled" meme will die in a fire now.
Dude, OLED makes a fucking huge difference in image quality and really improves the gaming experience, 0 ghosting, 0 blur, i can barely look to my psp´s now after playing on the Vita.

from the official pic it looks like matt instead of glossy, which would be awesome.

LCD is quite appealing - I would expect it to go much dimmer than the OLED, which is simply too bright to play in the dark in bed.
Yet, even at its lowest brightness setting, the black levels on an LCD will still be much worse.

Might have to pick up a spare oled vita at some point in order to avoid getting stuck with an LCD model in the future. Of course, my launch psp still works perfectly so their track record is looking pretty good on that end.

I really like the new design, the Star, Select and Home buttons look so much better now. I've never really liked the oval shape they had. Going to keep my eyes on this one,
Only shame right now in my opinion is that they didn't change the location of the speakers.

This just looks really nice! And I'm a fan of the matt colors instead, no more fingerprint magnet.

I'm not convinced that is true - will test it tonight. I'd still expect the OLED to come out on top, but as long as the other colours are blinding me, I couldn't care less.

Looks like the rear touch area has become smaller to accommodate the wider finger grips - no longer properly representing the size of the screen... could be a problem with Tearaway?

You know, I'm surprisingly down with the screen switch. The thread of Vita OLED burn-in and host of issues made me really nervous, and I don't even have one yet.

I disliked the mura effect and the extra brightness. I doubt I will upgrade anytime soon since mine still works, but once I do, I won't be missing dat OLED.

can anyone make me understand what the difference between LCD screen and OLED screen ?
because i thought LCD and OLED have the same resolution
but OLED is better in brightness and colors

No OLED...what a bummer.

I have to grab the original model fast if Sony decided to discontinue the original model and replace it with this OLED-less model.

Depending on what kind of LCD technology they're using it doesn't have to be bad. I've seen some really great LCDs on newer phones and tablets like the Nexus 7 (but the really high resolution might have something to do with that, Vita doesn't have that). And LCDs last longer than OLEDs.

The disappointing thing is the 1GB storage, that's just a joke. Even Nintendo manage to ship a 4GB card with their cheap as dirt 2DS and Sony can't do the same for Vita? Sony manufacture storage, right? So they should be able to put some more in. Are there even any Vita games that fit on 1GB?

Why would they color only half of the system? Why is this becoming a handheld trend?

How comfortable is a Vita to hold?

Nintendo should really go in this direction for their next handheld..
About as comfortable as you can expect of something with such small inputs (relative to a proper controller). Everything is a compromise, but it's as good as Nintendo's handhelds. The left analogue stick is superior to both the PSP and 3DS 'sliders', but you could argue the 3DS is better for analogue control being in the primary position. For shooters, where you use both sticks and the shoulders most regularly, it is unrivaled for a handheld (unless you want to compare it to the Circle Pad Pro), but you can still expect your hand to cramp up pretty quickly. None of these things are ergonomic.

There are plenty of <1GB games on PSN. And it's enough for saves, so people can stop claiming the "true" cost of the console is $300 because they're absolutely forced to buy a $100 memory card just to play the physical games they have.

Good to hold, bad when you played games with high-frequencies of input like action or fighting games. It will gives you a massive cramp after 1 hour of playing.
