Let's look back: Grand Theft Auto San Andreas

Still mad i didn't get to Vegas.

I stopped on a mission on the second island because i couldn't pass it. I think it was riding along the freeway on a bike then shooting a helicopter down i think.

I can't be bothered to play all the way up to that point again though.

You should go back and do it. That third territory as a whole is where the best, craziest and most diverse missions are.

Aaah, "Toreno's Last Flight." That's the second to last mission before Las Venturas too. It was kind of tricky.. Best way to handle it was to ride up ahead of the helicopter, jump off your bike, and nail it with a couple rockets. You'd have police heat during th emission but as soon as you took ti down, the heat were gone.

Going around in CJ's hood on a bike is still better than everything you can do in GTA IV.

Best GTA game, and probably best open world game yet for that matter.

Never been able to finish this game because of the horrid flying controls. I can do helicopters, but not planes. Great game though. I'm not a huge fan of the hood atmosphere when compared to the other games (Vice City and Vice City Stories have my favorite atmospheres), but that goes a bit by the wayside as the game goes on, and it allows for turf wars, which are awesome.

The III-era GTAs are all hard to go back to nowadays though. The controls aged terribly.

Last time I replayed GTASA, got up to the point where I had trucking missions. Nothing was more fun than trucking through the city with a huge 18-wheeler, hauling a trailer through dense residential areas.

God I hope GTAV has trucking, with the ability to attach a trailer.

Best GTA.

I have a Dualshock 3 and a Xbox 360 controller. Is there an easy way to play San Andreas on PC with those? I will not (re)play it with a mouse and keyboard.

Easy? No.

Hard? Yes. Xpadder. If you have the patience to set everything right. I didn't.

When it came out i played it and i was disappointed, I finished it within 4 days and did not fail a mission (technically did not to the Zero flying missions). I found the storyline boring and predictable, however the cast was spectacular and surprising.

I have tried playing it again several times over the years but would only get up to the OG Loc intro mission before i got bored. I revisited it on pc a few months ago to get hyped for GTA V. I think it looks better on pc now than what it did years ago and certainly better than the ps2 version (the increased frame rate helps make it look more fluid when moving around).

The car physics were amazing, no better feeling taking short cuts by rolling down a hill, and still landing on 4 wheels when i reached the bottom - and still able to drive away with minimal damage.

My roommates and I did a collective playthrough of this game last year.

Purple Tracksuit + Jason mask is the only way to play

Still my favorite game of all time. I have six copies in total. One still in the shrink wrap. I'm weird, I know ~

Couldn't get past the first mission because of the bikes. Was turned off by main character because I found the story uninteresting. Those graphics were also really bad IMO. Love GTA 4 though and somehow I doubt that GTA 5 will be the best thing ever.

"I can't relate to thug culture"

God people were so fucking stupid during that reveal. What, you can relate to a mid 40s mafia hitman who spent 20 years in prison and is now living in Miami Vice but not a black gang member? Some people must have lived a lot more interesting lives than I have then.

The PC version looks really good. I have one of the original old copies with the hot coffee content on the disk.

Still my favorite GTA. Not sure about 5, I may get it later on a steam sale for cheap. Not at launch though, not after 4.

I'll never forget bringing this home in college. We had a save set right after the intro and would take turns breaking into the airport and stealing a plane, then flying to the other islands which would cause an instant 5 stars (6 stars?). We would see who could last the longest and since it was our first time with the game we would see new areas constantly. So much crazy shit happened each turn and it was a blast.

You guys remember the outrage some people had over playing as a black character?

There was a guy in a GTA V thread for the three main character trailers and this one dude literally said something like eww he can't stand the way the black guy talks and he might just turn the volume down or something. Needless to say I quickly shut down my computer and did something else.

Thinking you've gamed the system by parking a truck next to the wall at the airport so that you can hop the gate to steal a jet to go joyriding.....only to then be shot down by a harrier is one of those surprising gaming moments where you're just amazed and happy to be alive.

San Andreas is fifth on my all time list.

I see a very frustrating GAF experience in your future.

You found the story uninteresting without even bothering to do the first mission..? Huh. I can't imagine why.

I hated all that ghetto bull...the slang was too annoying.

Least played GTA.

What timing!

I finally beat the flying school and missions myself not that long ago. Greatest feeling of accomplishment I've had in gaming for awhile. Every god dam GTA game on the PS2 had a set of impossible missions, SA had flying school, and Zero's missions. I never beat Zero's missions, f those missions.

I love SA but some of the missions post Los Santos are such a god dam pain when failed. So much driving.

Easily my favorite 3D GTA, the only one I would put on par with the Top down GTAs as far as my enjoyment. One of the best games ever for my money and yet another classic in the line of many on the Playstation 2.

Never forget.

I've completed this mission literally almost 50 times for all my friends and family members who were frustrated to no end by it (and the vice city remote helicopter bomb mission)

Definitely the most fun GTA though VC had the better story and radio stations*

I would've liked SA even more if the dating in the game would have had more depth. I still had fun with it though even if I didn't even play half of the mainline story missions.

Yes, lets

So smexy
Are there HD prostitute texture mods too?
;P

I'm still not sure which GTA is my favorite. I loved the atmosphere and open world of San Andreas but the gameplay in GTA 4 is so much better. I would absolutely love to see a remake of SA using the Rage engine.

Vice City > SA, but I loved a lot of the features that were in SA, especially bodybuilding and some of the mini games. It also has one of the best soundtracks a GTA game ever produced.

You can download SAAC 1.2 here :
https://docs.google.com/folderview?id=0B4lfqq0DpUo-a05UTmUxdjlXczg&tid=0B4lfqq0DpUo-WGV0OVVTS1Z0LVk

Copy/paste this in presets.ini :
http://gtaforums.com/topic/483521-saac-ini/

Have SAAC run while you're playing and choose one of the presets (I think Xbox 360 is the same config as PS2 and Xbox 360(new) is something that looks like modern controls). If you have trouble running SAAC it may be because you're using Windows Vista/7/8, try to look up for a fix on internet.
If you're already emulating a 360 controller with your Dualshock then it should work too.

This was the best gta game ever. I really think it has to do with coming to only one playform at launch. Gta4 ran like shit on everything.

Love for them to focus on just one platform next gen but no way thst will happen.

Cindres

Vied for a tag related to cocks, so here it is.
Still my favourite GTA by a large margin. So big, so diverse, and so fucking crazy.

The vice city mission didn't really give me any issues. The controls were shit but I managed to do it on my first or second go. Those fucking Zero missions though mang...fuck Zero and fuck David Cross, he is guilty by association.

It always feel good knowing that among my friends who played this game, I am the only one who was able to finish it.

SA was easily the best GTA for me. So much content and so much that you can do. Put so much time into this game. Trying to make fat CJ run from the cops was hilarious.

Only GTA I've never finished. I dunno, but I was burned out after a good while. The gang wars were just pure anti fun after a while. Do them once? Ok. But having to drive back all the time to defend your area is just ridiculous.
