MS buys the Xbone.com domain name

One day, when people say the name Munson Xbone, they're gonna think "winner." Just like DiMaggio is to baseball or, or Unitas is to football, that's what Munson Xbone will be to bowling.

Hahaha, classic. In that context, I'm in agreeance. "They really Xboned that one!"

So now Microsoft recognized the Xbone name officially and I can keep calling it Xbone.

Disrespectful? Maybe think about a better name next time. XBONE XBONE XBONE!!!
I believe I have a point in regards to comments like this; what sole purpose exists in it other than to irritate people who dislike the nickname?
What separates this from M$ or $ony or other similar nicknames? Those are disallowed to discourage the brainless discussions which often follow and lead to brand bashing and arguments consisting of over-repeated points. There's absolutely zero value to come from a post such as this.

-forgot to say, this differs from casual use in discussion, as using it as a name is technically a shortcut, compared to just instigation.

I like the name xbone, it has a great ring to it. Also it's great because marketers aren't allowed to say it according to that naming guide that was posted before E3.

Has no one critical of the name ever seen "psone" before? Xbone is both catchy and functional, and I think people who call it "disrespectful" when we're talking about a piece of electronics are being rediculous.

PSone makes me think of this:

I'm still kind of in awe they aren't leveraging it. I mean, X-Bone sounds metal. Run with that. X-Bone Melts faces off. X-Bone cracks skulls. X-Bone sits at the back of the bar with a fifth of whiskey eyeing you up and looking for a goddamn fight. Hell, If you want to be pithy say "The X-Bone will rock your face off so damn much you won't be able to hear anything else for days. The PS4 is so Status Quo that it's a miracle they actually found the fourth chord" instead of whining about it being disrespectful. This isn't exactly hard.

I'll stick to X1 thanks.

Erhm, what this guy below said is valid to your proposition. That would be infringing on their identity at that point as they have a product feature named X1.
http://www.comcast.com/x1

I mean just look at the splash page and how it is worded.

Comcast probably wouldn't like that.

That is until the train gets Tboned.

It can't because of the crazy bottocks on the train.

This.

I'm completely convinced that the only reason they called it the Xbox One was because they wanted people to refer to it in casual conversation as "the One". So I'm glad that people have latched onto Xbone so that the silly console gets a silly nickname to match its silly full name.

I agree. And now it will be referred to casually as the bone. lol

Honestly though in the end, this whine by Nelson is yet just another gaffe by the Xbone's PR machine. For fuck's sake they need to get over themselves and their inflated sense of importance in the world of gaming.

If your audience calls it Xbone you roll with it, not pout about how disrespectful your target audience is being. Honestly I don't even think of it as disrespectful ... maybe initially I did but now when I think Xbox One I just think Xbone. There were competing abbreviations the first few days after the system was announced and Xbone clearly won that battle. MS needs to get over it and start worrying about things that really matter ... like their pre-order numbers for starters.

I was calling it XBone at first to be disrespectful. Over time, they've transformed the image of the XBone, so now I call it the XBone out of love.

It was a bad name from the beginning, so they got stuck with Xbone, cause it's funny (not derogatory to the console, just the naming of it). Wii U is a terrible name but there's just nothing you can amalgamate that into so it just gets confused with the Wii.

Seriously though, whenever I try to talk about the OG Xbox I sometimes say Xbox One unintentionally and I know this has happened to some of my friends too. And if you were to say something about the "original Xbox One" everyone would know which one you were talking about. Similarly, Xbone is obviously the new console coming in November.

I call it the XB1, because A) it's quicker to type than XBone and B) the Xbone moniker is a bit of juvenile console warrior silliness.

But everyone else can call it whatever they want.

Regardless of how much it hurts poor Microsoft's feelings (hey! corporations are people, my friend ;)), it is still a pure acronym and it is solely Microsoft's fault for calling it "The One".

Microsoft isn't a person but it is comprised of people, more specifically in this case the Xbox team who have worked on the console for years. No one has called it "The One" except you.

For me, Xbone is on the same level as any other derogatory product nickname.

Yeah. I favored X1 at first, but the more I thought about it that "divorce" angle with Japan seemed less about the idea of people divorcing themselves from the platform and more that it was undesirable as a once divorced woman seemingly is to them, and that put a sour taste in my mouth.

Plus while the reversals aren't enough to get me on board any time soon at least it's more of an open possibility for me again rather than a complete write-off that I hoped would catastrophically fail in order to send a message. I still hope the PS4 smacks them around some, just to make it clear they got off on the wrong foot.

EDIT: And my thoughts on this news was that... well, they kind of ARE justified to take the domain, just because it's a nickname they don't like doesn't mean it isn't a recognized nickname, AND it is a truncation of Xbox One. Plus they probably hope anyone searching ends up finding the XB1 properly.

Pretty much

Agreed.
But also could be,
They named it ONE at the end, for the Console Wars.
So whenever people mention Xbox One in a comparison (depending of), it'll dominate in conversation, in reference to Winning.
Won.
Xbox Won

But, Microsoft secretly just spun it their way to justify the One tag by being an all System Entertainment Control.
Just like (in context of naming) with 360. Because 2 would've been classed as the lessor towards Sonys 3rd. So they needed to level the playing ground etc, so to speak.
imo of course

*Cough..
Just like the Tag of having Major, to sound greater than, regardless of Justification.
But,.. put him with any COD 14yr old,
and i'm sure he'll have his ass Majorly handed to him.lol..

sorry,couldn't help myself.

But anyway,
Xbone/d sounds better anyway imo.
I like it better than Xbox One to tell the truth..
And i think maybe they'll spin a negative into a positive, even if it is for damage control.

If you think Microsoft didn't intend for people to eventually call their console "The One" you are seriously kidding yourself.

Unfortunately I think this comes back to Microsoft not taking enough care with its product naming, the general public commonly takes product names and try to shorten it to slang etc form, If they can shorten it to something amusing even better.

Therefore you might point out that Microsoft did not respect its own employees in coming up with the name because they did not think carefully through the possibilities here.

Sorry Major.

People started disrespecting the XBO as soon as MS started disrespecting potential customers. Nobody ever called it XBone until their initial policies were revealed.

Although XBone made sense at the time and Xbox 180 made sense later, I've stuck with XBO myself.

And being so arrogant as to call it "the one" like MS has doesn't really help make people want to respect the console name.

Not really. I haven't seen or heard anyone call it "The One" before you did. Just because Xbox 360 was called "The 360" doesn't mean Xbox One will be called "The One" or that Microsoft assumed that it would.

Sorry Major.

They shouldn't have called it Xbox One, for starters, considering the confusion with the original Xbox. And yes figuring out it can be called "Xbone" isn't exactly hard, they should've thought of it and discarded the name for that and all the other reasons against it.

EDIT2: Why not go with the "All in One" concept and call it Xbox Aio? Not have the full name be Xbox All in One but to have the actual name be Xbox Aio [pronounced Aio as in Sony Vaio] like they did with Xbox being a contraction of Direct-X box.

If you want some respect then start dropping the title "Major" first you hypocritical prick, then you have my and everybody who have ascended to the "Major" rank's respect. No? Then stop whining.

Arrogant prick.

So much anger in this post.

Microsoft chose the unfortunate name of XBox One and will have to live with the consequences of people calling it XBone.

Hahahahahahhahahaha

Validation!

I was starting to just call it Xbox One in deference to people's feelings, but now that I know MS officially supports the name I can do it guilt free.

Now I can call it Xbone without being a racist, because as some of our slower members have tried to teach me. Xbone is just as bad as n****r somehow lulz.

I don't know if you're being naive or disingenuous, but it was obviously their intention. Think it through. We abbreviate all the time - the Xbox 360 is almost never called "xbox 360" in casual conversation. What do you think "xbox one" would (hopefully, by MS) be logically shortened to?

And it's a piece of electronics for fuck's sake. Disrespect has nothing to do with it.

My colleagues at work are calling it Xbone and just like everyone else it was dubbed Xbone the day it was revealed but thank you for the info microsoft since this is a pretty name.
