It...kinda did at the end of the day, but it took 'bout 7 years so it was a LONG day...Proof is in the pudding. PS3 was supposed to make 360 look like Xbox 1.5.
We all know how that turned out

man God of War 3 still look fucking amazing
The PS3 was supposedly the more powerful console. But the only games that showed me that were Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3. I am not biased either way, but I am sick of the Power argument, and just want great games.
lolololololololololol I LOVE reading blind statements like this! The consoles aren't even out and they read like the two have been on shelves for like 6-12 months already.Based on this and other articles, it seems clear to me that the PS4 will have better graphics than Xbox One going into the next generation. And thats fine.
But it also seems clear that Xbox One will have better everything else than PS4. Specifically, better audio, better multiplayer, better gameplay, and an all-around better gaming experience.
It will have better audio thanks to a dedicated APU (audio processing unit), better multiplayer and gameplay thanks to cloud-based AI, and an all-around better gaming experience thanks to the software architecture and Kinect.
Sony can have the better graphics bragging rights. Im fine with having a better experience all-around, even if it means slightly inferior graphics.
All these articles about PS4 being much more powerful, but then I look at the UE4 shot that was supposedly running on PS4 dev kits and can't help but imagine the XBone is able to run something just like this, if not better. Considering how ubiquitous UE3 was, it stands to reason that UE4 will be just as popular among developers this generation.

How is it going to run it better with weaker hardware and being somewhat harder to develop for than PS4? Are we back to assuming there's some kind of magic tome hidden in the XB1 that reveals the secrets of the universe?
Your changing the debate from total consoles sold to "Market excitement" , it doesnt change my original statement that the most powerful consoles have never sold the best. That does not mean ps4 won't sell the most , i expect it probably will but not for the fact that it is the most powerful system.
PS4 and Xbone are releasing A YEAR LATE after WiiU, it's hardly relevant though. People buy consoles to play the games that are available on them, are you actually claiming otherwise?
Wii was the ultimate example of the power of key games rather than the power of the console itself.
Wut?

Look at something like Red Dead Redemption - it looked better than Alan Wake (360-exclusive 3rd person shooter that came out on the same day) and it looked better than Infamous 2 (PS3 exclusive open world third person game), so Rockstar definitely tried to push both machines but the PS3 just couldn't keep up. By then the Cell architecture had been already researched and demystified by devs. That wasn't a case of the 360 getting the superior ports due to the hardware on the PS3 being inferior, and thus the PS3 limiting the multplatform games on the 360, that was more to do with the horrible PS3 architecture. But I agree that it was evidence of devs not giving a damn about parity politics.
End cycle games for ps3 look almost on Par with what is launching for ps4.
GT6, Last of Us as example.
So there's an 40%+ power gap in almost every spec category but the difference won't be obvious on day 1?
Sure it is. It's also a good excuse to keep talking about some mystical potential power when the consoles launch rather than what is right there in plain sight.

How could it possible run better on a much weaker GPU and lower memory bandwidth?

I don't know about that. Off the top of my head I can't think of a single UE4 game. EA seems to be using Frostbite for everything, Ubisoft has their own engines, Capcom has Phanta Rhei(or whatever it's spelled), Konami used the MGS5 engine on the latest PES game, etc. Seems publishers are investing in their own stuff.

Better gameplay? Explain that one there buddy? The cloud? I'm still curious how that is even going to work if always online isn't forced.
Does the game just switch to very easy mode if you aren't connected online?

I think those who are looking to base the entirety of their opinion regarding the two consoles power difference based on launch titles are doing so only because it benefits one particular narrative, that is, to make the Xbox One appear closer in power comparative to the PS4. I think those with some common sense realise launch games are a very poor barometer to judge either consoles power, especially with multi platform games which will have had even less time and familiarity with the consoles than the first party stuff (as is already pretty clear to see).
Just to remind you guys about what launch vs later cycle was like on other consoles...

What does that even mean ?
Also even if UE4 get's popular it won't matter to PS4 unlike PS3 .
PS4 has the more powerful hardware and it easier to code for .
PS3 to 360 tech or how things work back then means nothing to PS4 and X1 .
EDIT plus those pics so damn old lol .
It would be totally fine for us to make one version prettier without any political difficulties but it usually doesn't make financial sense, they said
Yeah. I feel like unreal engines success last gen was the product of a lot of developers unprepared for the shift in development for HD consoles and as a response of desperation a lot of them turned to Epic, a company that had actually done the legwork for them, which allowed them to speed up the process and buy time to get their own house in order.I don't know about that. Goddamn catching up in this thread is impossible.
Anyway, I'll just redirect to my recent post since it covers the basic idea. Main point: there's plenty more to game development than raw power, especially when it comes to multiplatform titles with tight deadlines on unfamiliar hardware. Calling it "excuses" is sticking your head in the sand.
Hell, I swear I've been over this with you specifically in another thread, TechnicPuppet.

Juniour, you can't be serious.
PS4 is more of the same, with better graphics. Xbox One will provide lots of great new gameplay that PS4 can't replicate (largely thanks to bundled Kinect).
In my opinion, if you can't see any justification for Xbox One's higher price, it's because you don't want to see it. I think Microsoft has done a good job justifying Xbox One's higher pricetag.
I see PS4 as little more than a PS3 with better graphics and new social features. There's nothing wrong with that, but it doesn't excite me.
Albert Penello, Major Nelson - where are you?

I lol'ed at this sarcasm.
Man, bishop was right. These new juniors...
Because the shot of the engine on PS4 is so horrible and gross that I have a hard time believing XBO won't be able to at least match that. Maybe they'll optimize it in the future, but if the XBO can't at least match that screenshot then it's beyond bad.
It's funny who thinks that Xbox One is doomed because of less power. That's irrelevant for overall market, its all about the games.
Screw this political shit, make PS4 the lead console for development. I don't want Microsoft holding my games back!
