I just expect the ps4 multiplatforms to have better resolution + AA if everything is true. They will both have the same shit fps.
Also; in a thread about comparing the power between 2 gaming machines, isn't it weird that when someone brings up the third real competitor (the PC) when talking about multiplatform games he is answered with "Not this shit again, GTFO"?
I think we have some real double standards posters in this thread. I'm talking about some (alot) of the PS4 fans.
1. When there is a discussion on whether certain aspects of quality matter; such as IQ, framerate and resolution:
If it's a XboxOne vs PS4 discussion it's extremely important and a major bonus for the PS4 over the X1.
When the discussion is between PS4 and PC it's all about the gameplay and who cares about some aliasing, upscaled 720p or 30 instead of 60 fps when you are playing a game.
2. When there is a discussion on whether PS4/X1 hardware is much like a PC or very specialized (secret saucy).
If it's a X1 vs PS4 discussion the hardware in both is exactly like PC:s, and therefore can be compared straight up, thus the PS4 wins cause it has more FLOPS.
If it's a PS4 vs PC discussion the GDDR, the hUMA, the superchargyness makes a PS4 way different from a PC and can't possibly be compared with FLOPS.
3. When there is a discussion whether power really matters
X1 vs PS4: of course power matters, it gives developers more possibilities and makes IQ/framerate better.
PS4 vs PC: nah, it's all about the games. Who cares about 1080p@60fps or upcoming 4k resolutions; it's all in the games.

You were the one who first used PC as the point of reference of devs using extra horsepower for extra features. Some people just can't afford the a PC that would outperform next-gen consoles it has already explained here a million times, you're just spamming PC arguments for the sake of spamming them now. The RDR reference is interesting though considering that PS3 and 360 were pretty much equal yet the difference was so big because of more difficult hardware. This time Xbone is more difficult to develop for and significantly less powerful.
If someone says "multiplatform games will be better on PS4 than X1", isn't it just very natural to say "in that case, they will be better on PC"?
As a way of saying "if power is what makes the difference, then we should consider the option with even more power".
Who are "WE"?
Who makes those rules? Missed that part in the TOS. Is it ok to bring up the Wii U?
It's not accurate. The architecture of the PS2 and Xbox were completely different.
The PS4 and Xbox One have CPUs and GPUs from the same manufacturer and generation.
So how about
4. When there is a discussion about "the real differences between PS4 and Xbox One performance"
'Cause that one looks pretty explicit and straight-forward to me.
Look, anyone will tell you no shit that a game will look best on PC. Duh. End of story.
But that's the problem - when people bring up PC gaming, it's usually an attempt at thread derailment with a discussion-ending point that doesn't actually bring anything to the actual conversation at hand. That's why it irritates people when it gets brought up time and time again.
The reason we don't consider PC in these comparisons is no two pcs are the same in specs, so performance varies wildly, so you can't really do a apples to apples comparison.
The specs of the consoles is known, and standard, which makes such comparisons possible. On the PC side, you'd be, at best, comparing to reviewer defined specs that may or may not be common in the wild.
So in terms of consoles, we ignore the PC. In PC terms, the comparison is usually between different cpus, videocards, etc and so forth.
So we're going to ban PC discussion from GAF now? Because there've been threads on GAF that are completely Xbox One focused that almost always turn into Ps4 vs XBO debates, and the second PC GAF drops truth bombs people want to exclude it from discussions?
Is the Xbox suddenly going to get more powerful in the next five years?
Microsoft tried with comcast, and got shut down. they have an agreement with time warner.
Without an across the board agreement with all US cable operators, "tight integration" isn't happening.
Wow. The emotional insecurity of the console fanboys in here is staggering. In the sports threads to people freak out this bad when someone compares a 3rd line defenseman to PK Subban?
Power doesn't matter to me, a corporation saying their console is as powerful as a competitors and taking people's cash does.
MS need to get their shit together and prove it.
Shame it seems like the Xbone is going to hold back multiplatfom developments.
Hopefully not tho.
Not really, since the game itself is not interesting. The best part of this comparison is that RDR is not even available on PC and it's considered one of the best this gen. You couldn't picked a worse comparison on your 'why ignore PC' spiel.
I think it's long established that PS4 will run games better than Xbone. But when you say you want the best multiplats clearly you should not look at PS4.But when faced with 2 choices and one is clearly superior to the other, what reason would there be to buy the gimped console, exactly? Especially when it costs more.
They're called the CONSOLE WARS for a reason. PC isn't a console. It's not relevant to this thread which is comparing PS4 to XB1.I think we have some real double standards posters in this thread. I'm talking about some (alot) of the PS4 fans.

Oh God. Not shit shit again.
How many times does it need to be said? I don't want to play games with a mouse/kb. That means I'm never going to play a shooter online on PC, because even though I could use a controller in those games, I'll never be able to compete against m/kb players. Thus, all shooters are immediately console only games for me. THE END.
For a variety of reasons, including the major one I just gave, a large majority of people are not interested in PC gaming. Therefore when I'm discussing power in a console, the PC doesn't even enter the equation for me.
I dont see PC anywhere in the title of this thread ..So we're going to ban PC discussion from GAF now? (And this doesn't even get into how you've painted the discussion in broad strokes in the first place)

So you are saying its like comparing the SNK Neo Geo to the Sega Genesis?
So that person is definitely not interested in the highest quality, since all those things you listed have no bearing on it.
Oh God. Not shit shit again.

the other one comes with touchpad in the controller for example. I wonder which feature do gamers may find more useful.

I'll bite.
The Xbox 1 / PS4 debate is relevant because of the gross amount of FUD being thrown around by Microsoft and previous generation fanboys. Microsoft can only be described as a fish floundering outside of water. They have sent Penello to GAF, Major Nelson has slowly lost his credibility (Have you seen Major-Fall?), and the 180 degree spin is a breathtaking repeat of Kutaragi and Tretton's verbal destruction of the PlayStation brand circa 2005.
This conversation exists in its own vacuum because there is an overwhelming amount of gamers who would prefer to play on consoles. As a PC Gamer, I understand why people play consoles, and I understand their appeal, so it becomes annoying and trivial when every thread discussing consoles is somehow befitted with a spokesman for the master race waving his arms on the failings of these petty machines.
PC gaming has its audience, and no one is doubting PC Gaming's visual prowess - (I am a member of the superior race), but GAF has become a little insane where every thread about next-gen was somehow mucked up with a certain few unfiltered members who kept asserting that next generation consoles were a waste of time and that the unwashed heathens had yet to understand what the PC offered.
This persecution complex can go both ways, PC wins, 100% we get it, but the more pressing discussion is how these consoles will fare against each other.
The only variable that hasn't changed: delusional fans of EITHER side (PC, Xbox, or PS).
Wow. The emotional insecurity of the console fanboys in here is staggering. In the sports threads to people freak out this bad when someone compares a 3rd line defenseman to PK Subban? Someone wants to bring up an outside point? Who cares, move on. Don't cry about it.
I'm not saying you should play on PC. I'm talking about comparing power. In fact, I'm talking about exactly what I typed in that post: That certain aspects seem to matter when comparing X1 and PS4, but not when comparing PC and PS4. Things like IQ, framerate and resolution.
Of course there are other factors to bring in. I like sitting at my desk, you like using a controller. But my post was about SOME differentiating factors; namely power related ones.
And I think the X1 people are even more irritated that time and time again it's being brought up that the PS4 is more powerful. The probably KNOW by now, right?
Do they? There are people like AppleSexual and UnnDunn who take PR as gospel and refuse to believe the PS4 has a big advantage.I don't want to derail threads. Yes maybe some people will, but I think the number of people derailing threads are the same among X1, PS4, PC and Nintendo fans. Assholes will asshole.
And I think the X1 people are even more irritated that time and time again it's being brought up that the PS4 is more powerful. The probably KNOW by now, right? How is it different, when the power disparity between PC and PS4 is being brought up?

I still don't know who "we" is. Do you mean GAF as a whole? Or PS4 fans? I know a lot of gaffers that don't mind comparing PCs to PS4. And I know a lot of PS4 fans (like me) who really don't mind that comparison. So who are 'we', and why does those 'we' think that they have the right to tell people to "GTFO" of their threads?![]()
Well apparently we have to wait 2-3 years from now for Microsoft to actually prove the difference as the minimal difference at launch doesn't really count.
wutWhat exactly has proved microsoft technically except to repeat difference are minimal again & again? From what I see technically, ps4 launch titles are mostly1080p, are you that sure Ryse will be 1080p too? I have some big doubt.
Then you don't want the highest quality experience if you're willing to compromise for whatever reason.Highest quality does not exist in a vacuum. There will always be stipulations within it. And even then, highest quality what? User Experience? Because that's not a PC.
I am being pedantic of course. I just believe it's a stupid attitude to make out PC gaming is a realistic alternative to next-gen consoles for everyone interested in the 'highest quality'. Some people may LOVE to see the best image quality but don't know where to stick a GFX card, or not have $1000 to spend on a Titan.
I personally want the highest quality games, but I can't afford a GFX card that costs more than the PS4. I'll struggle with the PS4 as it is.
Yes, because consoles don't need to be plugged to the wall.Which other console should I look at then?
(I have a PC, I don't play games on it really, don't like gaming at a desk and I'm not moving it and trailing wires across a living room with 2 kids and a dog in the house)
except it isn't. see what I wrote above. Comcast is dupicating every single function of the Xbox one TV integration into their own cable boxes, and moving their DVR and video functions to the cloud.
The issue is that people here are discussing a relatively small difference in power (in comparison to the consoles vs an enthusiast gaming PC) in a 27 page thread about how important this performance gap is for multiplatform games.
Do you not see the immense level of hypocrisy in these comparisons? You can certainly cite "I don't want a damn PC!" or "I dislike keyboard and mouse so I can't be competitive online!" and that's a fine opinion to have. But if multiplatform performance were SO important as to have a heated insane 30 page thread (Digital Foundry threads will probably be similar) then why consider a 500gf difference so large in comparison to a 2tf difference?
Maybe people could take this PC shit to mobile gaming threads where the power difference will shine even more (seriously, it'll be like showing the natives how to make fire -- just imagine!). Consoles are a different class of device, with different baselines and expectations.
I'd think this would be obvious.
But in the minds of many of us, the PC doesn't even exist as a gaming platform. It doesn't even enter the equation.
Unfortunately, no. MS's PR team hasn't exactly helped things the last couple of weeks, either. They're basically trying to prey upon anyone who can't read a spec sheet and get them to believe in a fantasy at this point.
Do they? There are people like AppleSexual and UnnDunn who take PR as gospel and refuse to believe the PS4 has a big advantage.
We woudl be the folks who hate how PC gamers always try to insert their platform superiority in every last console versus console thread on the internet. Most of the time, it's not really relevant.
There are some circumstances where it may be, such as the idea that all games are lowest denominator only (they clearly aren't). But there is no point to arguing PC versus console when trying to make a power comparison between two consoles because 'PC' isn't one set of specs, it's an infinite variety.
I mean, are you trying to compare the ps4 and Xbone to a $299 wal-mart special PC or a $400 bleeding edge rig? There is no baseline for apples to apples between console and PC.
