Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | September 2013 | Token Indie Thread

This was posted earlier in this thread.
I backed this and based on the comments, the dev is putting the Vita as the platform they really want to develop for! hope VitaGAF can take a look and support

They are off with a rather slow start so do check them up! the video makes the game seem rather interesting I must say!

We strongly support the PS VITA and we believe it's a GREAT console. The community has convinced us to make PS VITA the 1st console we're going to develop on. We need to pay an additional fee of $40.000 for the engine licence (Unity). We also need $10.000 to adapt the gameplay, test and debug.
______

It sounds like they've switched the place of the Vita and WiiU? before it was 130k for Windows and WiiU?

Failed to see any successful kickstarters?
What the hell does that mean? :lol

I haven't seen any good kickstarter games that have been finished. The stretch goals are crazy and are just meant to take advantage of fans.
100k to put game on pc/linux/mac
400k to put game on vita or 3DS
like really a port costs 300k? Sony is very dev friendly and most people should know that shahid makes porting indie games to the vita as smooth as possible.

and why Vita one is a PSM version instead of a native release?? putting it on PSM is like sending it to bomb.

Exactly my thoughts. And perhaps I'm not too lucky, but the few PSM releases I have played, while not bad, are not as "fluid" and smooth as native releases.

I hope they change their mind on this one.

judging by the speed this Kickstarter is going, I'll say 220K is within reach.

I'm absolutely sure they will reach it next week at most. I mean, they made more than 90k in just the past 24 hrs.

And besides, Yoshida-san just tweeted about them. You can never underestimate the power of @yosp

I can't help but feeling these vita kickstarter is trying to exploit vita owner who is hungry for games or something...

anyway, some of these looks cool, but I'll only back them when it's evident they'll reach their vita stretch goal. I'm not interested playing these games on other platform for now, and I'm afraid if I'll pledge now, I'll just forgot to concel them when it's apparent Vita stretch goal is not possible.

As long as it looks like there can be a vita version I don't mind. The Vita has a ton of games, but almost any game is just oh so sweet being played on Vita in comparison to any other platform.

I am so sick of Kickstarter, kickstart this kickstart that.
Omg I have failed to see any successful kickstarters.
To top it off the stretch goals are insane holy crap.
FTL is an example of very successful Kickstarter. It is considered one of the best indie games actually.

And stretch goals are not meant to be meaningful or very valuable. In fact, project owners are advised to be careful with stretch goals and try to not "over-promise". http://www.vg247.com/2013/08/14/kickstarter-boss-warns-against-careless-stretch-goals/

Congrats.

you want a short game? Gravity Rush is nice and short.

Gravity Rush is a must play. And an easy platinum if you like the game as much as some gaffers (like me) do.

Nice characters, good and lighthearted story and a world that (storywise) is awesome. Gameplay is good despite having somes flaws. And you need to beat it before Sony announce its sequel at TGS!

IMO Kickstarter projects must have a low first goal and good, atractive strech goals. If you are not known in the industry, only a few people are going to back your game if the first goal in 200.000$.

It's better to put a 50.000$ one (even if it has less contents) and put the rest of the game you had originally thought as stretch goals. It's not a science, but I would feel more confident backing a game that has 40k from a goal of 60 than a game that has 120.000 from a goal of 180.000.

It must be sad to downgrade your vision, but it's still better than not showing your vision at all.

This looks sensational.

It's right to be skeptical of Kickstarter - but there have been some amazing games from it. With Wasteland 2, Project Eternity, Broken Age etc due next year. Sir, You Are Being Hunted and Godus are both on Steam Early Access to try as well.

I'm personally done with it. Have too much 'pre ordered' for the next three years already. And I'm still not sure how any of them will turn out.

But I hope other people will keep throwing money at it.

It loos good and silent hill-esque imo, but i'm also rejected by the ui, the inventory and in general the 2d elements that are too close to the "traditional" japanese survival horrors, i have always extremely hated those elements, very clunky, annoying and antiquated even at the time of the good resident evil and silent hill games.

Fuuuck, I'd love a Resident Evil game for Vita. I am guessing it won't happen :(

Remember that resident evil for psp ended being resident evil operation racoon city, if you add that resident evil 6 is what it is and that revelation is yes more faithful to the original formula but apparently it's not the masterpiece that the 3ds owners wanted you to think(surprise!) then i would not be that optimistic.

Imo people have to understand that things changes, resident evil, silent hill, final fantasy etc are no more the masterpieces of the past, people have to look forward, just an example for survival horror there are games like amnesia or other pc games that look more promising than any resident evil or silent hill.

All has gone quiet on Lone Survivor again. It's been delayed and delayed, and now I doubt we'll even see it this month.

If he needs time to make it, give him time to make it.

Also, Pinball Arcade just got a new update that adds in the Terminator 2 pack. Hopefully they'll release both next week!

I didn't know that.

Final Fantasy can be a masterpiece whenever S-E wants. Every mainline entry is like a reboot, so they don't have to carry mediocre entries like the last RE and SH games.

Right now I don't have any interest in both of them. Both are classics, but... most sagas cannot hold more than 3 entries. Both need a reboot if they want to stay (or become) relevant in next-gen. I personally don't care anymore about the story in both games so I won't buy if/when they release its sequels. If they bring a brand new universe to the table i might be interested.

Yeah but he could at least give us an update on progress. You don't hype a summer release than hide yourself from the world.

His twitter @JasperByrne has somewhat regular updates.
On the 5th he said he can reveal the release date soon and on the 11th he said he just comissioned a trailer. There should be more news soon.
There probably isn't a lot more he can say other than "I'm working on it".

Asked the River City Ransom guys about PSM and this is what they had to say:

Conatus Creative said:
Hi Felipe,

Thanks for the suggestion. PS4 would be a native release but our engine won't run on PS Vita native yet, so we have to run it through what we can until such a time as we can move it over.

Daniel

Uh? What? :(

Looking around felt extremely awkward at first but I got used to it for the most part within 20 minutes. While the Vita does have dual analog, FPS games will never feel up to par with console versions, because the Vita's sticks just aren't big enough.. that said, they're just the right size for such a device; I wouldn't want them any bigger, because then the device would be less portable than it currently is.
Well, I was going to recommend that you pick up a set of analog stick covers for the Vita, but I can't even find any links on amazon any longer...I got some about 3-4 months back, and I love them. The covers add just a little bit of extra height, and that gives your thumb more surface to "fine tune". Good luck though, mayhaps check local game shops?

I want to pledge, but the vita goal is looking a bit impossible to reach at the rate this kickstarter is going. If they show signals of reaching it, I will back it.

There is another promising kickstarter that just announced a Vita stretch goal though, River City Ransom: Underground.

Looks cool, right? Here is the link if anyone else also wants to support it: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/combitstudios/river-city-ransom-underground
Tis a real shame it's a PSM for now...I just saw this yesterday and nearly wept for joy at it's remake! The fact that it will likely be available on Vita makes it better, but then immediately worse due to Mini status :( That is one beautiful group of animated pixels.. Will still give them some monies though..

Got KZ: M through gamefly.

As someone who thought KZ2 was ATROCIOUS and only played 10 or so min of 3, I'm shockingly into it so far even though I'm only 2 missions deep.

Not sure if I'll like multi or not but might give it a shot tonight.

That's encouraging. I felt exactly the same about KZ2/3.

Wasn't Luftrausers and Lone Surivor supposed to be out this month?

I'm not sure why he likes it more... It's pretty much the same Killzone on Vita. There is a surprising amount of variety in how you can handle the missions due to the covert/demolition/precision contract paths... but it's still the same Killzone you know and love/hate.

Question about Walking Dead Vita: I keep seeing the game case at Gamestops but I can't tell if the game was actual retail release or a game download code that GS us selling. I've seen similar cases for Ateleir.

Imo the story is not that important in the final quality of a game, i mean it's not the story that makes a survival horror scary in-game, but how it handles encounters, atmosphere, balance and other things.
There are many ways to be free from previous stories: a reboot, a new parallel series(the best solution imo), or erasing everything(for example in resident evil someone could finally find a permanent and effective solution to the zombie/mutant/whatever infection) and then continuing with a different direction.

Well, I enjoyed Mercenary's multiplayer quite a bit. Things just felt more fluid. My biggest complaint with the console KZ is how slowwww (and drab) it is.

I'm a fan of the comic, not the show.

i kid :)

Well, slow (read: weighty/heavy) is Killzones *thing*. And war is usually "drab". :P
The multi feels pretty much like 2 and 3 to me, so it surprises me that you actually like it more.

I have a set, actually. I use a convex on the left stick and a concave on the right, but I think I may go both concave. The only thing that saves Merc is the aim lock (auto-aim) stuff (without it, aiming would be 1000x harder). The sixaxis aiming is nice as well, but I find myself using it too much sometimes and before you know it I'm spinning in circles with my head at a strange angle.

the gyroscope aiming is strangely not working for me in KZ:M

this has happened to me a bit as well

Lilt Line too! - Kickstarter. The guy behind it developed Lilt line for Wii&iOs and Derrick the Deathfin for Ps3&Pc. He now wants to create Lilt Line too!, a very much improved version for several plattforms, including Vita.

aa430ca01caa0d26e37279e942519988_large.png

Thankfully, developer and funnyman Gordon Midwood is moving forward with a sequel. The Kickstarter goal for the game is mere 15K British pounds, which is pretty cheap considering the game will have fancy new polygon based environments, online multi-player, and an all new music by Ill Gates.

Full article on Destructoid:
http://www.destructoid.com/lilt-line-too-is-the-next-level-of-abstract-rhythm-action-261827.phtml

at least 20 new levels
longer levels, each one being a whole song in length
new game modes: fresh (full 3d environment) & classic (top down view)
local multiplayer (collaborative)
online multiplayer (combative)
new level innovations - height variations, speed & time changes, loop the loops...
all new music from the brilliant and diverse repertoire of ill.gates!

Looks like Shahid&Nintendo will pitch them a Devkit for Vita and WiiU, Stretch goals are:

15,000 - iOS
£25,000 - Android
£35,000 - Vita
£45,000 - WiiU

I'm not related to the developer but I loved Derrick the Deathfin and since then follow his Twitter, cool guy! Hope the Vita version will happen, as thats the only mobile plattform I use for gaming.

Yea those concave covers really give the Vita a totally different feel. I only played the beta of KZ, but even with all the settings cranked to 11 it still felt like it could be just a tad faster. But that gyro and aim lock really do a decent job of picking up some of the slack.

Can't wait to play this. I've been looking forward for a Silent Hill game on my Vita for like forever. Hopefully Climax's unannounced title is a SH and comes to Vita.

Btw. Does Silent Hill Origins work on the Vita? I have the UMD but the price on PSN is definitely worth it for me but I can't see it on the Vita Store.

Edit: Nvm, I read it is playable on Vita but you have to transfer it via PS3. Will be getting it soon, It's been a while since the last time I've played it.

I don't think it's sensitive enough. I have it at max and still hand to tilt forty five degrees to get my shots right.

I think Gravity Rush did it best.

It seemed also to not behave like the Uncharted Golden Abyss gyro aiming which was more of a virtual analog (moves slowly but continues moving in the offset from center). The KZM gyro aiming seems more like a cursor drag. In theory the KZM method could be faster and more accurate but I think in reality it just makes it impossible to execute because of how much physical movement is required that interferes with seeing and controlling. I think I would prefer if they made it like UGA.

Edit: check out OMG-Z which should be coming to the North America store soon (it's a chain reaction game). And PSM games like Tokyo Jungle Mobile, Yu-Nama The Puzzle, Rymdkapsel, Penguin Party (free), etc
