I wonder if they tazed the guy afterwards to cover up the mistake.
pro-tip, disarm the population.
Yeah, you can take that right away from my dead body, along with a lot of other people. You'd have to kill a lot of people to disarm the population.
It is clear to me by the reactions just evinced here that people are approaching this a bit too emotionally and not putting their emotions aside to look at the objective facts of the circumstances involved.
Do not think for a second that I am happy or satisfied about this killing. There is a reason why I constantly refer to the victim as such, a victim. But all of what I have pointed out before is logically reasoned and how a court of law would approach the situation.
It is clear that no further progressive discourse will come as a result of my postings or the postings of another member in this thread. With that I will take my leave and allow you your indignation. I do not apologize for offending any sensibilities, nor do i apologize for the actions of the three people involved in this case. It is a damn shame to be sure that this happened in the first place, but don't let your emotions get the better of you. Please keep this in mind for future discussions.
You're insane.
I know we'll never get rid of gun culture here. The problem though is that every cop ends up seeing every citizen as potentially armed and deadly, so they kill people based on this assumption. Not saying that's what happened here. They just saw a scary black man.Yeah, you can take that right away from my dead body, along with a lot of other people. You'd have to kill a lot of people to disarm the population.
Read the post right above yours or the article linked in the OP. Even the police department says he used excessive force. Jesus people.
Yeah if you punch a man and he doesn't react, you should shoot him to death.
The victim was fucking unarmed, get a clue.
I think this is more the fault of the lady who called the police than the police. They're all equally as guilty, but fuck man. Breaking and entering because someone is knocking on your door? How did we even get to this point?
I don't want to live in a country where the government actually takes away my ability to defend myself. What on earth makes you think that could possibly be an okay thing to do?
Instead of being so holier than thou smug I'd suggest to learn that people can kill or inflict serious life long injury with their bare hands, especially if they just shrugged off a jolt.
Just because someone's an officer doesn't mean they forfeit their normal human rights to a normal human life. Stop being so ignorant.
I don't know about this. I mean, if I'm home alone at night and some guy who is injured and may be acting erratically because of that fact is knocking on my door at 2:30AM you bet your sweet ass I'm calling 911.
Would you report it as a breaking and entering?
I wonder if they tazed the guy afterwards to cover up the mistake.
The police actually quickly decide that the firing officer was wrong, charge him with a crime, and place the other two officers who witnessed the incident on leave, and you STILL want to pin this on the dead guy?!? What more do you need to think the cop might have actually done something wrong here? I mean, even the cops are saying he was wrong here but you've got to pull out of your ass some bullshit about the dead guy maybe being on drugs. Wtf.Sandbagged him a bit. We'll see what happens in trial.
Someone was acting erratically, just immune to less lethal force, not listening, and charging at you, an officer of the law thats authority is to respected by all citizens. They were in the range where if your sidearm is holstered, they would get to you before you could unholster and fire. Its easy to armchair general after the fact, and not fearing for your life from death/serious injury. Even if unarmed they could cause you serious bodily injury remember. If they're drugged up, they may have a disease that can be transferred to you.
We'll see how this pans out in court. This officers freedom is on the line, but so is his superiors career future and integrity.
Things are always knee jerk here when it comes to police. Especially if it involves anyone who isn't white. Let's see how the trial goes.
How do you know she didn't just say "there's a stranger pounding on my door and I'm really scared"?
Instead of being so holier than thou smug I'd suggest to learn that people can kill or inflict serious life long injury with their bare hands, especially if they just shrugged off a jolt.
Just because someone's an officer doesn't mean they forfeit their normal human rights to a normal human life. Stop being so ignorant.
I wonder what he thought as the ensuing stream of gunfire pierced his body and sapped his strength. I really do wonder what kinds of thoughts would circle around your head as your blood pools beneath you. After being cut down by those who you thought were your saviours.
Just another entry to the list of wondrous happenings on planet Earth.
I read the story where it's said, according to the police report, police responded to a breaking and entering. I'm assuming police don't classify "someone I don't know knocked on my door" as "attempted breaking and entering."
Why would the police think it's a breaking and entering based on what was described, if she did only say "there's a stranger pounding on my door and I'm really scared"?
So you cant even approach cops now?
I like when people say he was charging at them. Almost like he's some kind of rabid animal.
What about the guy that was killed? Who's right to life takes precedence?
These threads always boil down to logic vs emotion.
"How can you be so heartless?!"
"How can you be so ignorant?!"
Neither side will empathize with the other in most cases.
Makes me wish news agencies would report more on swimming pool deaths. I'd love to see the threads on here about that.
I like when people say he was charging at them. Almost like he's some kind of rabid animal.
I hope she lives with guilt of contributing to a man's death.
Because he was never hit by a taser while alive. Why did he continue running at them after he was hit by the Taser?
Jonathan A. Ferrell was driving home from a hood party in his rap car. He and many of his gangbanger friends had indulged in their favorite pasttime of Skittles and Arizona tea mixing. The radio was on and it's rhythmic music played loud enough to keep Jonathan aware of his surroundings. He was in a neighborhood he was did not know, nor was he a part of, but his eyes lit up as he saw the various mansions that littered the neighborhood. "Oh shit yo!, this is such a nice ass neighborhood, I know they have some nice shit to steal!" he thought to himself.
Still under the influence of his skittles and tea mix, Jonathan pulled his car over to the curb of a house. Looking at the time it was 2:20 am; "No one should be home right now, a good a time as any to do some looting!" Jonathan said under his breath. He slapped himself in the face to prepare for his B&E. Hopping out of the car Jonathan decided to take the direct approach. "I think I should knock on the front door, I'm black in an affleunt neighborhood, they'll totally let me in. Once inside I'll just hit the homeowner in the back of the neck and steal all their shit!." Smiling at how grand his plan was, Jonathan knocked on the giant oak doors to the manor. There was no answer, he stood for a few moments waiting to see if the owners were simply being slow in making their way towards the front door. He decided to knock again this time with a little more force, the door and it's frame bucked and strained under the strength of his ebony muscles before falling completely.
Standing in the hallway was a beautiful woman who's skin glowed in the moonlight, her angelic hair danced as the air from the outside made its way into the house. Her beautiful eyes met Jonathan's and she gasped with fear. "Please I don't want any trouble, just take everything and leave me alone!" She grabbed her phone and dialed 911 before Jonathan knew what happened, her speed was unnatural and completely caught Jonathan off guard. Regaining his composure he ran out to the yard deciding not to rob the manor in question.
Jonathan had just barely made it to his car before the cops arrived, this was shocking for Jonathan as where he comes from it usually takes the cops days to arrive at a crime scene. The officers stepped out of their car and pointed their lights toward Jonathan's direction. He hid behind his car and contemplated what he should do; "Young man behind the car, please come out with your hands where I can see them" spoke one of the officers in a clear voice. Jonathan was nervous, he knew he would be arrested on the spot for breaking and entering, sexual assault, driving under the influence, and assault with a deadly weapon. He had 2 prior convictions and knew this would be the end of him. Jonathan slowly moved from behind the car into the spotlight with his hands up.
The cop addressed Jonathan with the kindest voice he had ever heard. "Young man, please step forward and let's talk about this. I would like to hear your side of the story before we make any decisions on how we're going to deal with this entire thing." Officer Kerrick was smiling with his hand extended out in a gesture of friendship and trust. Every part of Jonathan wanted to trust the officer, but his thuggish savage nature would not allow such. Jonathan looked up into the sky and let out a beastial howl of defiance and like a mad man charged toward Officer Kerrick. Officer Kerrick was shocked, but his officer training kicked in and he pulled out his taser. He aimed and hit Jonathan square in the chest, the metal pongs dug into his skin and one could smell the flesh burning as the taser sent a devastating jolt to Jonathan. The taser did not stop Jonathan's charge, Officer Kerrick was shocked; "That was enough juice to knock out an elephant, he's not human!" he remarked. Officer Kerrick grabbed his cross around his neck and said a quick prayer for Jonathan then proceeded to pull out his service pistol. "Son, please stop I don't want to do this to you!" Officer Kerrick pleaded; but Jonathan could not hear his words, the animal had taken over. Officer Kerrick fired two shots into Jonathan's chest and he fell in place.
Officer Kerrick ran over to the young man's body and held him in his arms during his final moments, he watched the young man struggle to continue living and tears began to roll down officer Kerrick's face; "No!" he yelled, "you were too young, much too young!" Jonathan reached up to wipe Officer Kerrick's tears away. "D-do not be sad" Jonathan struggled to speak, he was losing blood quickly and his vision darkened. "You have f-freed me from this anger and h-hate." Jonathan's body went limp, the boy was dead. Officer Kerrick cried tears of pain. For many people, Officer Kerrick was a hero, but Officer Kerrick did not see himself as such, he was unable to save that young black man from himself and his culture.
Is this how Defense Force-GAF sees the article or something?
Life through the eyes of Bill O'Reilly.
I do not believe based on the evidence at hand that prejudicial profiling was the cause of the victims death. As i elaborated before, actions speak louder than words and based on what a reasonable person might expect of someones behaviour when approaching a police officer, the actions taken by the victim in a vacuum would still have led to a similar outcome. I wouldn't disagree that Black men get racially profiled, it is still one of the most prevalent intrusions into the psyche of modern society, but it has little to do with the situation at hand.
Once again, I would not disagree with this assertation. I would submit that a reasonable person when hearing a knock on their door in the wee hours of the morning should have reason to be concerned. Although a knock on the door is hardly as threatening as smashing in a window with a baseball bat, it stands to reason that one might come to the conclusion that "I could be dealing with a possible home invader" compared to the conclusion "Someone has crashed their car and is knocking on my door for help"; The latter situation being so rare that even the most charitable person would be hard pressed to come up with it at 2:30am in the morning.
The fact of the matter is that both the police and the woman involved were correct to think that the victim had the potential to be a threat. However, Had the victim conducting himself more reasonably, this potential would have most likely been allayed by the rationale of both the victim and the police officer on scene.
Because he's a cop. He's someone that people hate, someone people tend to target. Cops are people too, they're on edge. When someone behaves in a certain way towards a police officer that is out of the norm, it indicates a red flag. Why should anyone empathize with the killer of an innocent man?
Home invasions are more common than car accidents?

Car accidents culminating in someone frantically going door to door in the middle of the night aren't so common.
