I pirated 360 games and MS banned me, what the hell?

Happened with me and Steam back in 2008, actually. Suspended my account without so much as an email warning, took me 3 weeks to get it back. To this day, I've never figured out exactly why since they just reactivated it without a word.

That's nuts. Thankfully you at least got it back.
Seriously I think every service in place should have an actual system in place for bans. None of this randomness of banning and not saying what for.

So did you post this just to raise a big ruckus or are actually trying to find out why you were banned? Many people have told you already what you need to do but you don't seem to be listening.

Something just does not seems right in here, fellow GAFfers.

As for OP, I know you are upset but knowledge is power so you should always read the TOS, this goes for anything, from using their Online Services to buying games digital and so on. I know there's a lot to read there but in the end it's up to you to Accept it or not.

This is why I left Microsoft years ago.

Even if I did do something against the TOS, they should ban the account, not the console.

I got banned from PSN because some hacker used my mac address on his jailbreak console to play online :(

I sent Sony a link with a thread teaching hackers how to use craigslist to get peoples mac address and how to use that mac address to spoof their own and play online without them getting banned. But nothing happened :(

Lost a lot of PSN games, DLC and most importantly lots of PSN friends.

How did someone get your mac address?

He can fully use the console - the purchases tied to the account downloaded will still work. The DVD's he has will still work. His online id will NOT work.

Can't believe some people are defending this. Taking advantage of a well-known exploit to get free games shouldn't be bannable. MS should plug the hole and eat up any of the losses. That's assuming it was the Oman thing, anyway.

And technically since it is digital, there are no losses, MS just has to revoke those game licenses. Banning the entire account is way over the top.

The only reason such an action should be taken if he was committing fraud, like using stolen credit cards. That's something I could understand shutting down an account for.

I'm honestly shocked that there are this many people who are of the mindset:

You broked dem rules! You got what you deserved!

I would honestly love to see a future thread of one of these folks being undeservingly banned and facing the same shortsighted posts in their thread of sadness.

See console bans don't surprise me since you can just shift crap to another console with your account. It's shitty to be out the money (especially for a forum post), obviously, but you don't lose your digital purchases, your XBL time, or money on your account so it's better than an account ban. I don't think I've ever heard of them hitting the console and every account on the console at once before.
It's an account ban as well dude.

Hah, one more thing.

I can't contact their support from www.xbox.com!! When i get to "chat with us" or whatever it forward me to!

YOU HAVE BEEN BANNED AND WE TOOK YOUR MONEY!!!! HAHAHAHA
Use an alt account, they'll direct you to the Xbox Support forum anyway. All the chat does is allow you to give a little more info.

Good luck getting a response that helps, but more than likely you're just going to get a repeat of what you already know.

People engaging 'just world' fallacy. Something bad happened to you so you must have done something really bad to deserve it.

they do ...
they even have a forum directory dedicaded to bans. people are using alt accounts to ask why they got banned and they get straight answers.

Yep. And it's funny as hell to read.

Yep, the "Why was I banned" forum is great for straight answer. That reason alone is why it's such an amazing piece of the internet for entertaining reading.

Uh how can they not tell you what you did wrong? That's bullshit.

Also, does that mean you cant trade that shit in at Gamestop?...That would be horrible.

Not that you would get much for it anyways.

I remember there was an exploit where you could get the first map pack for Halo 4 for free. In fact I learned about it from gaf (may have been from CAG). still not banned. feel bad for OP

While it's extreme to lose everything, that's what you get for saying they could do this to you if you violated their terms of service when you agreed to their EULA.

Don't like what happened? Don't agree to an EULA next time.

Don't like what the EULA of said company states? Tell them to fuck off and find another means of gaming.

They won't ban the console for Marketplace Theft. Just the offending account. To have the system banned means there was more going on. Even still you will be able to play the games as long as that was the main system. You just won't be able to do anything else for XBL and if your system dies you're screwed unless you know how to fix it.. Even if you make an account for another country you ip will let them know where your system is. So if you are not in that country and they see you continuously downloading games for free, this will raise a flag more quickly than a stealth modded system as you acknowledged from the creation of the account that you were from that region when you were not. Similar to illegal immigrants using another countries welfare resources and then being mad when they get caught.

It was their own mistake and Sony has done mistakes like this before too and they honor it and dont ban people for it.

It wasn't just a mistake, it was one that required specific actions to take advantage of, specific actions that were obviously exploitative.

The posters saying that they should have just removed the Oman games are failing to realise that doing so would not discourage future exploiters from doing it, it would mean there is no risk involved in doing so.

So you pirated the games you didn't "like and to have"?

No.

I kind of like to collect games, limited edition gamepads etc etc. I like to have retail stuff, original games, all games from some franchise etc etc.

Will try to make another account and contact them.

Checked that Oman account. Its banned. So I don't know what else can be.

Yep. And it's funny as hell to read.

Yep, the best.
"Hi my Son's Xbox was banned and I'd like to know why. He never pirated or stole any games. Can you help me please?"

"Hello, your Son was banned for exposing his penis on cam in a game of UNO, thanks".

It's pure gold on that forum.

This is somewhat of a pointless thread.

This guy got banned, we don't know why, there are no details, just ASSUMPTIONS and yet a great deal of you are getting riled up and taking sides, and in some cases pushing your agendas(PS4 vs Xbox) (Digital vs Physical).

Should be locked until OP gets details about why he was banned, then you can all decide whether or not it was justified or not.

That was allowed, Microsoft (or 343i) came out saying it was a 14 day free trial afterwards.

Oman sucks to be you.

NEq7XSH.gif

The whole not telling you the reason why you were banned seems really shady.

Forever physical. Yikes.

This sucks because unlike with other media, it's not like Apple or whoever can suddenly prevent you from accessing your music library somehow. Going digital in gaming means a lot more than in other mediums.

Don't like what the EULA of said company states? Tell them to fuck off and find another means of gaming.

But he doesnt live in the US. I am not sure how important an EULA is in the US, but it doesnt have any meaning at all in european countries.

I could set up a contract that states "If you agree to this, I can kick you in the balls 3 times" and it still wouldnt be a valid contract.

There are a lot of salty MS fans here. It is completely legitimate to raise up the fact that psn doesn't do this. it is entirely okay to have accounts from various regions and gameshare on psn. It is a competing service after all.

Sounds like the Oman stuff then. Good luck.

lol I tried to warn people that MS would ban people when those threads about creating foreign accounts to get free games started popping up. The banned a player for playing a LEGIT, legal copy of Halo 4 early for crying out loud, and you thought you'd skate by free on this? Not saying it's right either, it's shitty customer service, but They don't give a fuck.

Yup. I think these threads are wonderful. People do something that they KNOW IS WRONG. And they cry and cry when they get caught. The only thing I disagree with your post is that you think it's shitty customer service. In this case, the customer exploited them. Fuck the customer. Why didn't you get banned, why didn't I get banned? Because we KNEW this was an exploit and there were risks. Some people take those risks. I have a lot more respect for those that say, "Hey, fuck it, I got caught I have to live with the outcome." rather than the little crybabies that would rat their own mothers out and blame the everyone else for them playing with fire and getting burned. This is why EVERY SINGLE COMPANY has to have over the top rules and regulations because people are always looking to screw someone out of a dollar or exploit a glitch or take advantage of a misprint. Again, take it like a man, admit you tried some shit, got caught, shut up and move on.

Regardless of what the OP did it is really bad that they blocked his entire account. He should still have access to his games but all other Live features should be disabled; I think that's how Steam bans work.

they do ...

I started perusing those forums. This seems to be a common one:
- Altering the appearance of your avatar beyond legitimate parameters

First of all, I didn't even know you could make a custom avatar. Second of all, a permanent ban seems like a pretty severe penalty for something like this.

Selling my PS3 on craigslist, the guy wanted the MAC address to confirm if the console was the one he wanted or something. I didnt know what that was and thought it was a model number or something and gave it to him.

I thought never giving your mac address to anyone was common knowledge but that is a shitty way to get banned.
