Hyper Light Drifter [Kickstarter = Funded] Wii-U Stretch at 550K, Ends Oct 12

Ok! I thought Ghost Song was the only game, I wanna back but this !? Is so frickin beautiful. Thanks GAF again to show me a awesome Kickstarter games!

I interviewed Alex Preston, the main designer behind the game. Figured I'd share the link here.

Great article! I love that you got a still of that monster in the jar. I hope you don't mind that I appropriated it for the OP because it's BADASS:

Great interview, and I love the design of the site. Like Polygon, but much more readable. I'm not sure what the developer means by "more free range over your sword and attacks". Is that like you can do different attacks with the sword? Or just more secondary attacks like the shield deflecting or using drones?

Love that they got another programmer to smooth out the game and whatnot. I do hope they get up to 450K, especially for more loot and locations.

I think he was speaking in regards to classic sword hackers like A Link to the Past. This'll be more diverse than that in terms of swordplay and combat.

I'm definitely going to need the soundtrack to this game.

Edit: Oh sweet. Read back through the tiers and saw that you do get a soundtrack for all tiers 40 and above.

ok up until i saw this post I was actually very suspicious of this game actually being made by Phil Fish as the pixel art is almost exactly his style, neon lights everywhere, and OST by disasterpiece, bascially seemed like what I imagined Fez 2 to be, and since Phil Fish is such a fan of Andy Kaufman I was fully expecting Alex Preston to actual be his version of Tony Clifton

Looks like they'll try for the Wii U if they can get 500k

We've had a lot of request for Wii U support. We hear you! It's a platform that deserves some love, and we're currently in talks with Nintendo directly on the subject. I think if we can reach the $500,000 goal it will be possible - though keep in mind that any new platform costs a fair amount of money and time to QA and port over/translate, with their own set of requirements, so it's not as simple as one would hope. We'll keep everyone updated as we continue to push for this gem of a platform.

So, I'm one of those crazy people who wants everything on Steam. How does something like this work, given that a Steam version isn't 100% official? How much monies do I need to donate to get in on the potential Steam version?

As the game was initially for PC, and still is, a Steam version is guaranteed if we can get enough votes on Greenlight. The link is in the OP.

Right. My question is how much do I have to give to get the Steam version? I assume the $10 bracket gets it, but it only mentions the DRM free version. There is no tier that specifically mentions Steam.

Mod should update the Thread title:

Hyper Light Drifter [Kickstarter] Perfect Pixel ARPG 300K FUNDED PS4/Vita Reached, Wii-U=500K STRETCH

Just saw some gifs of this in the Minimalist art thread. OMGOMGOMG! Can't believe I missed this. Will buy on Vita so hard.

Just to finally chime in: THIS GAME LOOKS FANTASTIC!!!

Wow! I backed it for 40 bucks a while ago (would have done more, but money is short these months after GTA 5, Puppeteer and other Kickstarters like Mighty No. 9).

This game might actually be one of the most exciting upcoming games for me, Indie or not. I mean, an old fashioned top-down action adventure game with snappy combat, vibrant pixel art and a cool, distinct, neon and laser filled Madmax/80's cartoons/anime/He-man Sci-fi vibe? The devil might just as well present me with his contract for my soul, because I couldn't sign up quicker if I tried. The protagonist's design is also very cool indeed (i.e. put in him Smash Bros. Sakurai san)!

(Hope to see this reach 500,000 though.)

Edit: also, are there any avenues we could use to further promote this game? Other forums, websites etc.? Social media, if any of you have large followings (which I don't)? The Wii U Miiverse perhaps? I mean, it's going quite well, but just going by the relative low amount of pages here on Gaf, many people are probably overlooking this game.

I fucking love the music used in the trailer. Does anyone know if Baths ever released the track outside of the video?

I extracted the audio from the video and I'm currently using that and listening to it on repeat.

Wondering the same thing. I also thought of extracting it and listening on repeat. So, damn, good.

Looks excellent. Too bad that Wii U stretch is so high. Might back-up when it gets closer to 500K.

And yet they just announced OUYA development. I mean I get that the WiiU needs dev kits but what a waste of dev time for an OUYA version.

I will probably have to back this for the Shantae crossover.

I mean, it looked like my kind of game from the start, but I try to stay away from video game Kickstarters.

The artstyle greatly reminds me of the R&C;ACiT minigame My Blaster Runs Hot. I'll be funding this one as well. The gameplay mechanics remind somewhat of Outland and MMX4

I've been Tweeting Alex Preston daily about a Wii U stretch goal for the title. After the Ouya announcement, I was particularly upset, and this exchange occurred:

Take that how you will, but I choose to believe that official Wii U stretch goals are right around the corner. Only 9 days left, so I'm hoping this happens like now.

Am I the only one who finds the ever extending list of stretch goals pretty hilarious? It keeps getting longer and longer and soon he'll run out of verbs to use...

I'm really upset that I just don't have the means to back this right now. I'm getting really pumped up and inspired every time I see this game.

The art speaks for itself. The preview audio is incredible, and really meshes with the aesthetics of the game.

Whilst FTL was smaller in terms of ambition, I haven't been geuninely excited for an indie since I pitched in for the FTL Kickstarter.

Wii U Stretch Goal if they hit 550k. Need to have a minimum pledge of $15. I just updated mine.
