Do you recognize your fellow gaffers ?

Mainly the people in the sub-communities I participate in but there's a few "forum personalities" on GAF that always seem to pop up no matter what thread I enter.

Yes, actually to the point that it's scary lol. I started lurking around here at the beginning of the year and I know a lot of users here(believe it or not NeoGaf has bad reputation around the web that's why I avoided visiting here in the past but now I am in love lol).

I only recognize the people that seem to like posting in dating and/or potentially heated gender related threads and regulars in the Pick-Ups thread.

Only a few. Off the top of my head, and mainly due to 'Pics that make you laugh'; Horse Detective, Clydefrog and Avixph for example. I've long lurked in there.

Sweet!

Really? why the bad rep?

The same bad rep all Internet communities have. Closed minded mob mentalities and a lack of intelligent discussion. You really have to dig to find the real fans of VIDEO GAMES that want to discuss them and not just say "you're dumb this game sucks/is good and are wrong if you disagree with me".

I used to, a few years back, when I was much, much more active. Nowadays, I'm often days late to interesting threads and don't have the time to read all the comments anyway.

Gaming side is almost all strangers to me now. Nintendo threads, for instance, are awash with new usernames and I have no way to gauge how to react to anything they say.

If you posted here regularly between 2007 and 2011, I probably will recognise you. If not, how do you do? I used to be the guy who would write long-winded posts and suffer from something-is-wrong-on-the-Internet syndrome.

I've been struggling with finding an av that's a keeper but still lets me adjust it accordingly.

Thank you Vince McMahon. Iconic man.

I only recognize people who post in threads I tend to post in a lot.

Or people who never change their avatars/have a theme with their avatars.

Other than that, everyone on GAF is a blur to me.

Yeah I recognize most posters if they've been members for a decent length of time. I used to only know avatars but now I recognize most member names.

One of the best compliments ever. Thank you for this. You've warmed my heart, put a tear in my eye, and gave me another excuse to use more smileys

Yes, but I don't think others recognize me, save the ones I've had long debates with.

I was lurking in the Wii U speculation threads, so I recognized a ton of them. But then most of them got banned. Now, I mostly lurk on OT. I usually only post when I disagree with people, so I might come off as disagreeable. But I actually like most of the people on here.

Is that his tag yet? Someone with that much persistence to a catch phrase certainly deserves it.

Just out of curiosity I searched for "fellow GAFfers" under his username and it brought up one thousand results. One thousand is the maximum amount of results.

I recognize several GAFfers, yes. If you tend to post in the Steam thread, chances are I know you either from avatar, username or posting style.

There are some others I also recognize, though I've never interacted with them, so I'm sure they have no idea who I am.

Only some users by name and avatar. More by avatar, which usually throws me off if they change it to something else. Tags on members help too in remembering who they are and what their affiliations are. I don't remember history that much unless you post in a technical thread, say something outlandish, or seem to be on top of the news.

Hey now, I'm all hyped for How I Live Now.

I have thought about going back to the Robert Oppenheimer avy.

If you're my American clone, does that mean you have to listen if I forbid you from doing something? :p

I haven't been here long so I just know you as the Steam guy who needs to get Saoirse a better agent cause she been in really uninteresting movies since Hanna.

HILN's reviews have been somewhat mixed but "uninteresting" isn't an adjective I'd apply to Wes Anderson films. There's also Mary Queen of Scots if period dramas are your thing, which -- mark my words -- will see her earn that long-overdue second Oscar nom. ;) I'd love to see her and Wright team up for another action film, though.

Just off the top of my head:

NotTheGuyYouKill - The avatar and well-written posts.
Plywood - The tag.
Amir0x - Youtube comments, actually. lol
Courage - Breaking Bad thread.
Fiction - The horse_ebooks ARG thread.
Log4Girlz - Makes me laugh in almost every post.
Sn4ke_911 - The username.
Horse Detective - A horse detective.
foxuzamaki - Smash Thread.
blame space - ugh

And... that's about everyone I can remember. So, mostly the big posters in GAF. >.>

EDIT: And Yoshichan! Mostly because he argues a lot in the Gaming side.

I remember posters by avatars and/or if they are consistently great post who usually add to the discussion.

I recognize most of the people in this thread by avatar. Can't say anything about your post histories...

Yeah I think I know almost everyone who posts, it's normally just by avatar so I don't usually remember usernames.

Not that it matter because I'm new here so I doubt anyone remembers me :(

I would say yes. It's easier with a smaller community but not impossible.

You can recognize based on their posting style alone. There's a couple people here with different usernames and avatars then they had at the previous forum I frequented(1up) and I recognized them.

Not really. I do want to talk shit to the person who made up a bunch of bullshit Dark Knight Rises spoilers last summer whenever I see him post, though.
