I dunno if they'll try to do 3D on the over world. Seems more like a limitation of their engine and the hardware.
The spikey shell is part of the point though. Even if he is based on a knight you have to base it on the concept of a horse chestnut. I thought using it as a cape/shield thing was a pretty creative way to approach the design.
So what is this missing?

I'm guessing you're unimaginative and don't see how Samurott conveys a samurai either, right? Because he's not blatantly wearing the broad helmet or wielding katanas. Tsk!no matter how often you repeat yourself I still don't see it.
Chesnaught is meant to evoke a knight. Not flat-out emulate one. And he does evoke a knight, covered head-to-toe in his own naturalistic, exoskeletal take on body armor. This should be evident from the helmet on his head to the plating on his arms and legs to the beige color that compromises earthy hues and a knight's shining armor. He's fortified, front and back, top to bottom. He even has the ornamental trim of a knight along the edges of his shell-shield.
Any more blatant and it veers off into parody territory, which worked for Escavalier as a regular mid-game Pokemon but would be a bit too on the nose for a starter.
I skipped B/W so I just saw Escavalier for the first time and... that does not work. It looks terrible lol.Any more blatant and it veers off into parody territory, which worked for Escavalier as a regular mid-game Pokemon but would be a bit too on the nose for a starter.

It's more samurott turned into a fucking seal dog. Dewott was going great in the direction of something that could end up cool. Chesnaught just looks like a train wreck. Like a beta model. He has no character to his stance, his pin head and hovering shell makes him look improperly balanced. The same can be said for Fennekin3 too though. Greninja totally got the most time invested. He has a definitive and emotive stance, a clear cut aesthetic (Bullshit defenses of "you just don't see it because it's pulled so many influences" or "use your imagination" only further support Chesnaught's half-assed design) as well as maintaining at least the same major color scheme as previous forms (most importantly the dominant shades/tones that all previous starters have done).I'm guessing you're unimaginative and don't see how Samurott conveys a samurai either, right? At any rate, Chesnaught is definitely the warrior counterpart to Delphox's mage and Greninja's thief, but if some people don't get that, so be it. I'm rolling with Greninja anyways.
RE: wishlist for possible Ruby/Sapphire remakes:
I should've included an option for Pokemon to follow you around in the overworld! But many that'd be exhaustive for the team to design chibi 3D models of every Pokemon, lol.

At this point it's agree to disagree though since you're already launching insults to try and counterpoint.
All three are equally evocative. Delphox (who is the final evolution, not Braixen) has the silhouette of a wizard's robe; Greninja's tongue and pose evokes a ninja/thief and its scarf; and Chesnaught is covered head to toe in form-fitting armor, complete with a shell that fits like a cape at the shoulders and sports the ornamental trim of a knight. He even features a move called "Spiky Shield," and his predecessor factors "palladin" into its name (figure I'd mention it since Braixen was fair game in your example).Yeah no, the starters designs are pretty simple and to the point.
*Braxien has a magic wand on his tail.
*Greninja has Ninja on his name, Tongue Scarf and Water Shuriken as a signature move. Driving the point in your face.
*Empoleon is an Emperor Penguin wearing a Napoleon suit. He looks like a has a tie and a Crown.
*Torterra has a landscape on it's back.
Chesnaught would be the odd one out in its supposed subtlety. Every other Starter had being pretty obvious the motif behind it.
I think you're misinterpreting the tone here. I said nothing intended to "insult" you. It's more samurott turned into a fucking seal dog. Have had my review copy for 8 days now, has anyone else had it crash their 3DS? Only when playing this game I've had it shut down my 3DS completely once in standby and twice in gameplay, still had 3/4 battery. Wonder if its just an issue with the downloadable version and will be patched.
