But yes, it's an unspoken rule (unless I missed it, myself). Like using a certain sales website as your source on gaming side.

Just gonna chime in and say I've been getting these all day. Multiple ones with different audio. Though a refresh seems to kill it. Also like others got that: You are the awesome millionth visitor stuff you'd see in the 90s pop up days.

Also like the posted picture from the OP, all my ads were the same way. Half the banner is black, the picture barely in, but everytime I got that, it was some sort of voiced / flash ad.

I haven't got any ads with video but I did get an ad for a product I checked on Amazon UK yesterday - it was a random leave in conditioner and it was quite disturbing to see an ad for it; I doubt it's a coincidence - surely ads on NeoGaf do not have access to my browsing history or cookies on other websites?

I'm actually getting a lot of ads that aren't loading at all, along with incredibly annoying flashing "ATTENTION!" ads, I haven't really had these ads on NeoGAF until recently so I'm surprised.

I was just thinking I was lucky not to get these, went back and noticed an ad with a play button. I moved my cursor over the ad and it chimed. Far from as annoying as videos autoplaying, but annoying none the less.

I think some of you guys might have adware. Worth checking at least.

Look for add ons for your Chrome. Go to settings -> Extensions to see if there is anything there that shouldnt be. Also Adwcleaner should help.

This kind of thing is shockingly common these days. I found something similar on my phone on our local TV station's site. Went digging, found the ad injected JavaScript into the page to make it run an alert() box.

Really, it's kind of bullshit that ad networks let advertisers load their own code, etc. instead of restricting them to an image. They should clamp the hell down on them.
