Got a banner ad on NeoGAF that plays videos (with audio)

Yeah so I just got a pop-up saying I'm the whatever visitor to the site, and when I dismissed it it redirected me to their shitty site anyway.

No more of those quarter-sized ads though

Ads are the right size for me now, but I got some popups that redirected me like the above.

Another auto-playing "100,000th visitor" ad, this time epileptic blue and white flashing and playing "Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better". On two tabs at once, slightly out of sync, haha.

I got this one the other day, but of course didn't mind since IT ONLY TAKES SECONDS!

I just got one like this. Made me think I had a virus at first since I'm not used these kind ads on GAF.

Not sure if its something on my part (doing a virus scan now), or something to do with one of the avatars, or whatever, but I've just gotten this the last 2 times I've entered the last page of the Smash Bros thread. It prevents clicking on anything other than it, so I've had to force close Chrome twice.

Like I said, I'm not sure of the source of it, but considering whats been going on in this thread, I thought it might be worth drawing attention to.

I keep getting this one. It's pissing me off

I'm getting pop-ups. It basically opens a new page. Happened twice now in the last hour.

evilore y u do dis ;_;

I kid, but it is annoying.

I've had two javascript alert pop outs while browsing in the last day. Claiming I'd won something.

Didn't think google ads were allowed do that.

I was thinking maybe I have a malware infection but I'm on a mac and didn't think that was so common.

Unfortunately I can't remember what the ad was for. I think the ad space may in fact have been blank - just the js alert, which would redirect you to another site if you clicked OK. But I'll try to get more info if it happens again.

The speakers on my work PC are feeble little things - how would I even know if I had one? Terror!

I've got a blood.co.uk one now. Safe to assume that's probably not one.

With NoScript you can prevent everything from autoplaying, without denying revenue from non-obnoxious ads.

Or, you can use AdBlock and not subscribe to general lists, just malware block lists, and manually hide voice-making ads. I think that‛s reasonable.

Yeah I got the same one twice on Gaf today as recently as a few minutes ago.

I'm quite relieved reading this as I thought I'd got some malware myself.

Heads up, just got an ad that played audio on me. I noticed that the last week or so I would also run into a pop-up maybe once or twice.

Just got a redirect from NeoGAF to some other site. I went to check my Internet History and the site cannot be accessed now. I didn't click on anything other than the thread title and it just redirected me.

Sorry for the troubles, not sure why the ad quality has fallen off a cliff all of a sudden, will continue to investigate.

This topic has given me some relief, I thought it was just me and was mildly worried I had a virus.

No, bitch about it, they aren't supposed to be there. Something funky is going on with these rectangular ads showing up in the top ad slot all of a sudden, having the ad rep guys check it out.

I got a interstital ad once a couple weeks back, i have virus or your ad guys testing?

If you are curious here in EU for me at least there are no ads that give any sound or trouble whatsoever.

Is this perhaps a problem in the U.S only ?

Over the past week or so, Firefox has been giving me notifications of blocked pop-ups while browsing GAF. Happens on both my home and work computers. Didn't have any problems with ads before that.

I'm in Finland if that makes a difference.

Some time yesterday (or the day before -- I was tired and not sure when it was) I had one that redirected me to a page that told me to "update my Java" when I was on a Windows machine, and then another one bypassed Firefox's popup blocker for some "Mac health check" or some such thing when I was on my new Mac yesterday, so there's actually a security dimension to this too; I imagine those things are malware downloads.

Also, Firefox has been blocking popups on GAF lately. At first I thought I'd contracted some malware and spent a while trying to find it, but I'm seeing the same thing on different machines (including said new Mac, which is a clean install so no malware), and only on GAF when it comes to my regularly-visited sites.

UK here, if that helps.

There's a ILovesportstv banner ad which keeps trying to spawn a popup window on my work computer (Switzerland / IE).

(Oh, I notice I'm not the first to report it but it's still going on.)

? The terms of service for this site does not mention anything about this.

Download ad-block, only ban the ads that are annoying or distracting.

I see ads for stuff but I just let it be as long as it's not flashing shit at me or clearly a scam.

If it does piss me off or flash I just block the individual ad.

Ad-block is actually a good recommendation, any website promoting material that would scam it's users should be ashamed of themselves.
