Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | October 2013 | Ver 2000, Batman and some Angry Birds

After Angry Birds Trilogy, and The Amazing Spiderman I wonder which pointless Activision port Vita will get next. The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct? Men In Black: Alien Invasion? Fast & Furious: Showdown? Deadpool? Perhaps the first Skylanders?

The Wii Call of Duty games would be a great starting point for Vita ports.

Not sure why you'd call Angry Birds pointless though, isn't that the best selling third party handheld game in the US? Spiderman is also a big brand and this isn't a terrible game by any means, it'll probably do better than some of the insignificant Japanese niche games people always go on about here would.

The graphics in Virtua Tennis are beautiful. It's really amazing, especially the clay courts. The colours are so nice on that screen.

I downloaded the WipEout HD and Fury expansion packs for WipEout 2048. It's great getting them for free, but wow the resolution is pretty low. It's really blurry, and nowhere near as pretty as 2048 is. I know it's a dynamic resolution and all, it's just that it spends a hell of a lot more time on the low-rez setting than the full-rez one.

In fury and hd races, press start when it loads the race. Then resume. It should run much better lol, weird bug. Unfixed since they were struck down.

I kinda want an get birds too but I know it'll be a ridiculous price.

I do most of my gaming on PC but this is nonsense.

and PSVita is not some weakass hardware for me to be happy or A-ok with something like Spiderman, we got and played amazing looking games that beyond PS2 and very close to PS3 in quality in Vita first two years like Killzone: Mercenary, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Wipeout 2048, Virtua Tennis 4 and Toukiden, many games look sharp with tons of AA and high polycount, again PSVita is not shitty hardware but these ports and these developers are lazy and want people who defend their bad ports to reward them on their shitty job.

Depends on the game, really. I'm not saying that the Vita isn't capable of impressive graphics (though I never think graphics should be prioritized over framerate and hence think NGS should be stricken from your list). But there are some people that don't even find Killzone impressive... and those are the people that I was directing my statement toward. :)

Yo frost you up for some soul sacrificing today? Toto you can join too if your not just lurking.

Hell yes!
What time?

Nonsense, if vita can do better why should i be satisfied with those graphics?
It's not a matter of how those graphics look in absolute, obviously vita can't compare to pc anyway, it's about how those graphics compare to what vita could do.

Depends on what else the game has going on. People like to bitch about the texture quality and poly count in the MK9 models. But I'm not sure they could've made it better than they did without sacrificing the rock solid 60fps.
None of this was in defense of the Spiderman port -- though we have no idea what part of the development/porting process it's in and what it looks like in motion, etc. -- it's just something that annoys me -- when people nitpick even the best graphics on the system as being not good enough or take issue with a game sacrificing some visiual quality to retain proper performance.

I'll probably try the Amazon too. I will get to them all eventually I suppose.

I'm not much of a graphics enthusiast, but that's not to say I can't appreciate good visuals. When I said aesthetics I was referring to the art style.

Wasn't directed at you. Was just a general statement.
Amazon is a glass cannon... beware of that. High damage if you spec her right, but you will die a lot most likely.

sadly you guys always play in wrong times ...it's already midnight here :(

TWD SI and Skylanders might actually sell so no, next late port will mostly be super bomba like Singularity.

however I'd pay many silver coins for a Vita port of
Blur
if Activision want to give us that.

correct me if i'm wrong but wasn't there a rumor saying Activision (or one of their studios) tried to port Quake3 engine to Vita but failed/got bad results?

Check out Corpse Party if you're looking for something creepy to play this Halloween. The audio on that game is something else (make sure to play in the dark with headphones).

I was thinking of checking that out, not sure which one to go with though? The first or Book of Shadows.

This is horrible.

I think this is the biggest downgrade from consoles to Vita so far worse than Ratchet FAA . should've put some AA at least.

Vita might get Tingaint to port Infamous Festival of Blood and make it run at 15 fps.

Man, you are over reacting. At least characters models look "decent". And it could be playable, we still don't know anything about it.

An insider already confirmed infamous for vita

But confirmed, confirmed. Or confirmed, "look the sad face Sucker Punch director made after he hinted a Vita version". Because it was the last news I read about that game.

Is that what we were doing last night? :lol
Who gets what loot in your methods? I was always thinking I wanted to get a big chunk of the stuff but didn't want to take what wasn't mine or whatever and piss you guys off.

Truthfully, I'm happy right now to be grinding out my shield and revive trophies so I'm not dependent on online for trophies at all.

Everyone gets a weapon if one guy picks one up. Same with armor.
And yes, that's one of the less risky ways to get the better weapons. It took me a week to get the ultimate sniper rifle for storm on a later grinding stage.
EDIT: And of course, those better weapons are basically a requirement if you ever want to beat inferno difficulty and unlock the genocide gun.

Depends on which game style you like. The first is a bit more adventure-focused while the second plays more like a visual novel. I suggest you watch a couple of videos or trailers on YouTube.

Also, I'd say you might want to wait a bit. Since these are horror games, they *might* be on sale for the Halloween season.

What sells well on 3DS might not sell well on Vita, with the opposite also being true. Additionally, ABT is seemingly download only on Vita and I doubt the audience that bought ABT at retail are digitally savvy, because if they were they'd save themselves some coin and just buy the games on a phone. Vita's also getting Angry Birds: Star Wars, which is a retail release.

As for Spiderman's sales potential, I wouldn't say it's guaranteed to outsell even things like that curry game from Aksys.

I thought you lived in the states? We can play now if you want. Vicarious Visions tried porting the COD engine to the Vita for about 2-3 years and failed, that's why nihilistic was brought in. I always found this strange since the COD engine ran on the wii and Killzone on the Vita looked amazing.

Yeah Surge looks interesting. I haven't played the original before, will pick up the deluxe for sure when it comes out.

Oh awesome, didn't know this was happening. I played a ton of the original, but will definitely get this. The original was a Playstation Mobile game, and took forever to load, so I would imagine being a native Vita game will help that along with the graphical boost.

An insider already confirmed infamous for vita

Well, that's just a big ol bag of awesome. I'll eagerly be waiting for the announcement. That probably won't come until after Second Son, though, I'm sure.

I already have a massive Vita catalog, I really shouldn't be adding to it, but I can't help myself. I'll be picking up Ratchet Nexus if it's coming, and Injustice, since I don't own the PS3 one, but I'll probably wait until Black Friday or Cyber Monday. My November gaming budget is reserved for the PS4.

Well, I'm making an exception for Y's Celcita collectors edition next month, though. I frigging love this machine! I have enough games to keep me busy for months, when I look at what's currently installed on my 32GB stick, and that doesn't include the many games that are just sitting in my download list that I haven't touched yet (ie, Mortal Kombat Vita that I bought when it was $5 a few months back).

Works for me -- is that good with other people we play with? (nampad, agent, itachi, etc.) We definitely want a competent group of 4 or at least 3.

The original release of Surge was fine with load times.
Then PSM runtime updated and it broke Surge's load times and made them miserable.
I believe they've been fixed since then though. Kas would know... speaking of, where's he been lately?

Hmm I'd say adventure sounds way more appealing, but I was thinking of holding out for the real Vita port next year. I'll definitely hold out to see if there'll be a Holloween sale for it in EU. Thanks for the help!

It's been a long time since I've played Soul Sacrifice lol
I probably forgot most of the boss patterns by now.
I was going to go for a 50/50 Neutral to go with my 99/1 and 1/99 files, but I guess I got burnt out and quit.

Received my 64GB memory card and surprisingly P-A also threw in a free Vita carrying case. It's actually decent quality too.

I wish we were getting Hulk: Ultimate Destruction instead of Spiderman anything, if we're getting a port of any Marvel game, but I actually have never owned any Spiderman games... not even Genesis or SNES games. The only one I have any familiarity with is the PS1 Spiderman game because my 7 yo (at the time) cousin was always playing it. It was pretty cool, though obviously benefited from being a focused, linear game with a real comic book style, where the open world ones don't. That and fucking around with my other cousin's copy of the first open-world Spiderman game for like 10 minutes.

I might pick it up... but I really don't like the movie-license art style.

Hey, are the crash bandicoot games playable on the vita in the EU. Was just on the ps store and it listed the vita as a compatible device but ive read plenty of posts recently saying they can't be played?

They work in EU. Just not in the US.

Edit: beaten

Were they competitively-priced or did you buy from them for some other reason? I just started considering importing a 64gb card like ten minutes ago and have no clue where I should get it from. =/

I should have bought this!!! so how much did you spend?

I didn't really shop around as I only use two sites for imports and of those two, only Play-Asia was taking orders. The card itself was $116, with Fed-Ex shipping and a $5 coupon, my total was $129.99. To me that wasn't bad as I had originally forked out the $100 for the 32GB card back when the Vita launched in the US.

I'm really thinking of getting this... could get it at $96 with coupons :/

They really expect us to pay 30 euros for the Angry Birds game, is crazy expensive even if it has those exclusive levels.

I am tired of mobile developers trying to milk console gamers, Fruit Ninja cost 5 euros but only 0,99 on smartphones, Sparkling (the Zuma's Revenge clone) cost 5 on Vita, but the same game costs 0,99 on Windows Phone. Even the games from Chillingo on PSM, Feed Me Oil and Little Accorns, cost more than the smartphones version.

I really wish developers stop pretending, that console gamers subsidize the games for smartphones users.

I remember the time when publishers had smaller games in between their big games. When Rockstar released almost a game or 2 every year for the psp. Playing GTA 5 and then playing NFS: MW vita makes me want a San Andreas stories on the vita so bad.

Those are phone games now.

I learned today that the AI in Dragon's Crown can be quite dumb

Yep.

The game was honestly more enjoyable playing solo if you couldn't play with other people for whatever reason.

I was in the orc's area and all of my AI just ran towards into the fire the whole time

AI for both your AI controlled companions and enemies are pure trash, the funny thing is having AI companions increases enemies health so you make the entire thing even more awful using them.

really Dragon Crowns is just full of problems and issues, one of worse games of this year, a really bad mess.

Well I strongly disagree, that time wasted on porting a shitty licensed game could have been spent on something worthwhile instead.
Mercenary Technology is doing the port. Not Sony not Activisions. And, it's probably Activision with a Sony push that got this port sponsored. I doubt any significant sum of money was diverted to make this game appear on the Vita. The more games, regardless of if their ports of good or bad games, the better. Obviously, we would all prefer critically acclaimed games, but the waters have to be tested. And this is a good sign.
Superhero spam this fall:

- LEGO Marvel Super Heroes: Universe in Peril
- Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate
- Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition
- The Amazing Spiderman

That's... a lot. That's quite a few. Minus Scribblenauts DC, that's practically all of of them. And what's that? Is that... a Vita ad? I've only heard of it in passing and legend. They might even start advertising both Vita and PS4 at the same time. Show off that Remote Play.
