Pokemon X and Y SPOILER Discussion Thread

So what do you guys think of this opinion piece?

Five Spoiler-Filled Reasons Why Pokémon X and Y Are My Least Favorite Pokémon Games

I'm still interested to see how the metagame turns out. Should be really interesting with the new Fairy type.

Heavily disagree with Safari Zone opinion, Mega Evos are fine but the downside is that may be hurting the new pokémon species number.

I'm happy with the Metagame changes, Fairy Type + the balance of overpowered weathers, stealth rock and other moves might come into a good new experience in battles which is the fun part of Pokémon to me.

He's plainly missed significant chunks of the postgame out, his comments about Pinsir and Aerodactyl not getting evos are borderline nonsensical (because Game Freak was really falling over themselves to give those Pokémon evos, right?), and the story pacing is nowhere near as bad as Black and White 2, despite the Gym gap. He may have a point about the 3D implementation, but he appears to be under the illusion that Game Freak never intended to have 3D for the overworld rather than it being removed for performance reasons.

It's not unreasonably argued, but it's on shaky foundations, to say the least.

Oh, and to say that the Friend Safari is in any way worse than the horrible trials of frustration that were previous Safari Zones is little short of laughable.

Shame that the post-game is so weak considering B2/W2 had what I considered an excellent amount of stuff to do after initially beating the Elite 4.

One big thing that almost every review missed (for good reason) is the PSS - this is what the C-Gear should have been. In fact, the bottom screen experience in this game is superior to all games before it, save for a few specific functions of the Poketch.

Oh. Good to hear that blog post was wrong then.

It missed a fair few things- the Looker Detective Agency sidequest, the hunt for the Mega Stones across the region, the depth of the Friend Safari... it's like a review of Ruby and Sapphire missing the Regi sidequest and calling the postgame a bust.

I personally love the lack of legendaries this gen. Hey flooded the market with them the last couple gens, made being a legendary pretty meaningless.
Generation V is the most guilty of this. Three trio? 4 extra legendary Pokemon? Are they even legendary at this point? I know they need movies material, but at least not so blatant about it.

I could only agree with his second and third post. His later response to a comment perfectly nailed it: "There's like 40 more Pokémon in DP than there are in XY, and Mega Evolutions don't count under any reasonable circumstances. The difference between Lickylicky and Mega Alakazam is that the latter is not a tangible Pokémon -- it's a design alteration and an extremely temporary mechanic."

Eh. We're not really comparing like for like here.

Would Lickilicky be its own Pokémon if it were revealed with X and Y? Almost certainly not.

No idea :( I had a Pancham in my team but I ditched him and made him a HM Slave. So I have no idea how he evolves.
Seems like lots of people like to make Pangoro their HM slave... which is too bad considering his stats are really nice. I'd rather find some loser pokemon with terrible stats and movepool to make an HM Slave.

Since Dragon Pulse isn't a TM anymore, does Charizard learn it as part of his level up move or I am going to have to give him Dragon Claw?

Also where do I get the leftover?

ok How do I evolve Pancham? I need a ground type?

Level 32 with a Dark type Pokémon in your team.

Oh don't get me wrong, that awesome panda's stats were really cool and I loved him, but I have this weird desire for dual-type Pokemon and I take priority over them - for the single player adventure. So once I got Hawlucha, I loved his typing and I replaced my panda.

Would it help matters if I told you that when Pancham evolves to Pangoro at Level 32, he becomes a dual-type (Fighting / Dark)?

Oh you gotta be f**king kidding me. Really?! Damn, I should've experimented and waited to see if his type changed upon evolution, I definitely would've kept him.

Yes, legendaries that run away if given the chance have been a normal thing since gold and silver.

There are abilities and moves that can stop them from running.

Except in this one you prompt box doesn't appear and they flee.

People on /vg/ speculating that it is an event or something.

I knew that, but they never ran away right after the "A wild..." message, guess I was lucky before.
Edit : Actually I don't even know if there was a message, I ran to my bro to show him.

Maybe you need a special item to keep the roamers in play.

Is there any rhyme or reason to their roaming patterns? Maybe you have to keep following up and "corner" them at a certain route by manipulating Fly.

Can HMs be overridden in this game? Also, is there a way to learn moves you deleted? Last gen I played was 2 and I don't remember either of those being present.

In Super Training, how do I advance to the next level of the Attack minigame? I keep playing it but I always play it at Level 1.
You have to beat the Target time for each individual stat in Level 1 to open up Level 2.
Ditto to open up Level 3.
Once you've maxed out the EVs of one of your pokemon to reach the full 510, you open up the Secret Super Training levels.
Each one of those offers various in-game items.

Thus far, I've found evolution stones (still working on the Sun Stone; got the others), Hard Stones, a PP Up, Stardust to sell, HP recovery drinks (the usual assortment of Lemonade, Fresh Water and Soda Pop) and Wing items (although I'm not sure what use they are when you can easily train for EVs this way).

I've gotten all 30 events medaled with my Froakie. Achieving that didn't result in anything noteworthy. :(

I'm going to post it here since people are flooding the OT and make it harder for people to answer, so

Now I have 5 hearts so sometime my pokemon would wish that it would able to critical hit, but next round they usually do critical damage which is cool. Sometime it would heal it's own negative status to please the pokemon owner. Also it got bonus exp boost and sometime would avoid the attacks (status attacks iirc)

I think 5 hearts would be worth for all works if it work very well.

In recent games: There has been a move deleter character who would delete your moves for you. He can delete HMs. They don't let you delete them yourself so that you can't get yourself stuck in the wilderness someplace by deleting a vital HM.

There is also a character who can teach pokemon moves they've forgotten in exchange for items called heart scales.

I'd be shocked if those 2 characters are gone but I have only barely started the game myself.

They are still there, don't worry :)

I have a question for Joe, etc:

Do you expect we'll find more Mega Evolutions in-game, ones we don't know about, and without the involvement of special events?
