Pokemon X and Y SPOILER Discussion Thread

Since mechanics stuff ends up here. I thought this was interesting.

Noticed this Smogon thread.
Baby Pokemon caught in the wild (e.g. Rilou, Mantyke, Chingling) have three perfect IVs at minimum. Also applies to Togepi (overwriting the friend safari 2 at minimum rule) and legendaries.

However, someone who has a Nidorina with 3 perfect IVs noticed something. These are all Pokemon that can not breed.

Now, where is my wild Pichu battle...

Excellent, so that means every legendary will come with 3 perfect IVs at least. I'm very pleased. I think you can even Synchronize natures of legendaries that aren't roamers.
I wonder if pokemon from wi-fi events with random IVs will also follow this rule.

You EV trainers out there...(another smogon thread) looks like Hordes actually have a use. That is quite smart from GF actually...shame hordes are probably going to be a goner due to being blah otherwise.

Now if the power items work with EXP all, not being directly involved and you get multiples (as in front monster has sweet scent and a multi-target move, other 5 have power items) then you will slaughter super-training in EV/minute by a long shot (if one battle can get 50 EVs for 5 Pokemon).

Holy crap this would save a lot of time. 5 battles to 250, Super Training to cap at 252.

Repeat for other stat.

Any chance anyone has managed to get a supply of Feebas yet? I've been trying to manage to get myself a Xerneas off the GTS, but the tried and true method of throwing up a bred starter hasn't given any results just yet (of course I can still give it plenty of time). However, looking around Feebas seems to be the one Pokemon getting common requests that is actually available as of right now.

This is nuts.
I'm still early in my game due to work but this seriously makes me strongly consider keeping my Huge Power Azurill around after happiness evolving it even though I've already got Froakie as my starter.

Can a male Pokemon pass on its hidden ability in this game?
Yep, seems like it. At least that's what I'm hearing everywhere.

Lovely. A shame that there doesn't seem to be an easy one for every stat, but nice to have. Super training is really annoying, so any alternative is pretty welcome.

Funny you should say this. Just throwing this out to a test pool, but if I were to start a small service that EV trains a Pokemon for people - no secret techniques here, just putting work in the Super Trainer - for a small price (most likely a Pokemon or item trade, maybe a bit of cash if necessary), do you guys think it would take off?

There's no desire to capitalize majorly or monopolize this, just figured time is valuable and worth trading.

Beat the normal singles battle Maison, not to see how badly my unprepared in-game team does against the super singles! (Probably gonna be a blood bath, haha.)

Game Freak...!

edit: It's gonna take a long time to work through and confirm every single old Pokemon though...

So this fucker encounters me randomly in high grass yesterday:
Sugimori_146.png

And doesn't even let me do a single command before escaping :-|

I can't wait to kill mine, stupid legendary birds trios especially that overgrown rubber chicken.

Hmm

Perfect IVs being handed out to certain groups of pokemon is kind of at odds with the "IVs are necessary because they make every single Pokemon unique" school of thought. What do you guys think?

It feels like gen VI was made for me, heh. It's getting so much easier to control IVs now.

I think that school of thought was horrible to begin with. I don't know why they leave remnants of it at all. But we've seen it gradually get better and better: breeding introduced, NPCs that tell you your best IV/how good they are, characteristics, power item breeding.

I like it. Makes getting to the competitive meat much less time consuming. They are still onfuscating those things too much but it's a step in the right direction.

I think it's nice since it's still "random" but at least it's less likely for the Pokemon to be useless.

I will breed pokemon, get their right natures, and ev train them all day, but I still do not understand ivs. Are they really worth investing in? How much extra base points do pokemon get from ivs?

Up to 31 points at level 100 on a stat not boosted by the Pokemon's nature.
Up to 34 points at level 100 on a stat boosted by the Pokemon's nature.

So it I fully ev train a gengar with 0 ivs in speed, and at level 100 it has a speed of 300, if it would have had 31 ivs in speed, its speed stat would have been 334?

Have anyone else noticed that there are five pieces of meteorite on a shelf in the fossil lab and not just four? New Deoxys forme incoming?

Found this in the Lumiose Press. It's from the editor in chief.

Is this referring to Zygarde or perhaps an event? I think TPCi started using "Mythical" when referring to event Pokemon.

Mythical Pokémon or Illusion Pokémon refer to Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Manaphy, Shaymin and Victini. They always have a base stats all being 100. Zygarde isn't like that.

Zygarde's are: 108/100/121/81/95/95

You gotta love a game where going from "Yveltal will kill everyone!" to "Who's a good destroyer of worlds? You are! Yes you are! Want another Poké Puff?" in five minutes does NOT trigger ludonarrative dissonance. Yeah, I had to check out what Yveltal looks like in Pokémon-Amie when I caught it. How something that looks like that still manages to be adorable is... impressive.

Yveltal just wants to be loved.

Yveltal just wants to be loved.
It likes being scratched behind the ear and pink swirly puffs. So tempting to go to the name rater and call it Fluffy. But nah. That's crossing the line from adorable silly to just plain old silly.

I'll probably teach it Fly, though. Riding Yveltal around is most likely very much overkill, but if you're gonna fly, you might as well fly in style.

If I remember right, the move tutor in XY who teaches the signiture moves of Meloetta and another pokemon I forget calls them "mythical".

Edit - Just checked, and yep. It's Meloetta and Keldeo, and he says "For generations, my family's duty has been to teach moves to Pokemon that people call Mythical." Capital M, same as that newspaper editor guy.

So Sycamore is supposed to be at the Anistar Sun Dial for me right now and he's in his lab instead. I have beaten the Rival in Kiloude and obtained the Absolite. Does anyone know if he just doesn't show up when it's active (there's a bright light and a gyro...thing spinning) or am I the first one to encounter a sequence glitch?

Edit: Nevermind, I apparently remembered doing something that I never did. Oops.

I love screwing around with Wonder Trade! But I can't help but feel a little disappointed when I run into someone from the US on it, due to the awesome multi-region pokedex function. I wonder if anyone will be insane enough to get a true, completely 100% full, all region pokedex?

OK, is there a definitive way to get the guy in stone emporium to lower his mega stone prices? People say it changes every day but it was $500k for Venasaurite three days straight and I gave in and coughed it up.

Now he wants the same amount for Charizardite Y and I'm not gonna pay it. What can I do??

It'd have been 334 if its nature is Timid, Hasty, or any of the other natures that boost Speed. Otherwise, it'd have been 331.

If you do all of the activities (to the point where you can enter Boutique Couture) then he should be at $150K or less.

I got into the Boutique at last, but he's selling for 300k now.

At this point I don't care, I'll pay the price. 200k saved is still pretty nice. I really hate doing anything in Lumiose.

Yup, though in your example Gengar with 0 IVs + Max EVs has 288 speed VS Gengar with 31 IVs + Max EVs has 319 speed.

As you can see, IVs in speed are extremely important. You can get away with using Pokemon with minor imperfections in offensive and defensive stats, but Speed determines turn order and is absolutely crucial to succeeding in this game.

(assuming a nature that does not boost speed.* A gengar with a nature that boosts speed has 350 speed.)

The game let's you do that? So it won't go "Moltres wants to help". You could always wonder trade I guess...

They would be best off buying multiple copies of the game to do such a feat. From GTS for Sprtizee+Aromatisse I have all but Korean and for Swirlix+Slurpuff I'm missing German, Italian and I think French (I've traded a lot of both of those to help people in their Pokedex journey).

Korean can be difficult from a timezone perspective (Japanese players would snap them up) while Italian has the least number of players based on worldwide speakers.
