I don't get why everyones so outraged. As if what they did was destroy a monument centuries old. It's a rock and it's not really unique.
Because these morons ruined a 'rock formation' that took 200 million years to form and is a tourist attraction and state park.

It is unique because there aren't many like it anywhere else on Earth and it took 200 million years to look that way.

What more do you need to understand why people are upset? There was no reason to destroy it.

It was agreed upon more than 50 years ago to protect this formation from vandalism. "Just a rock" promoters should realize the only way to prevent wide scale vandalism is to punish any vandalism that occurs, or else you're going to have a hard time convincing people there's bite behind the words "don't be a fuckhead and tip over the rocks"

I understand getting upset... and they should be fined..
but really.. its one formation. There is a heck of a lot more out there that are the same.

Jail time is ridiculous.

This!

There is no reason those guys should go to jail. Who cares about a little rock?

You're right, all those beautiful California redwoods are just trees as well. Might as well take an axe and chop them down. They could catch fire one day and spread, or they could fall down in a hurricane and injure someone below. They're just trees.

I wonder if people would feel the same way if this was Stonehenge. Those are just rocks too, but whereas this was a natural formation, those were put by hands and supposedly are given greater care.

It's a crime to deface/vandalize a state park. If no jail time, a punishing fine and a ban from the park should be in order.

smh at all the imbeciles saying these are "just rocks." As someone who has visited Goblin Valley, let me just say you have no fucking clue. Goblin Valley is one of the most unique places on Earth. It's like visiting Frank Frazetta's vision of Mars.

These fuckers should be prosecuted and permanently banned from the national park system.

Idiots for sure, but criminals?

I would make them do 1000 hours of community service in the park. Cleaning up other morons trash.

Eventually it'll be gone and something else will take its place I think we hold lots of this kind of stuff a little too sacred.

They just wanted to be part of nature.

So where are the protestors?

Hidden behind that money in your face?
The deputy director of Utah State Parks says in his 22 years with the parks he has never heard of anyone being hurt by falling Goblin formations. Defacing state and national parks is against the law and tonight the two men could face felony charges for the act. source

Others will be made.

Idiot who toppled rock in Goblin Valley previously filed law suit claiming debilitating injuries.

(KUTV) One of the men infamously nicknamed the "goblin toppler," is forced to answer even more questions tonight.

You might remember the uproar created Thursday when video surfaced of three men, Glenn Taylor, his son Dylan and Dave Hall, pushing over a goblin sandstone rock formation in Goblin Valley State Park last Friday.

Taylor, the man who is seen actually shoving the rock to the ground, had filed a personal injury lawsuit against a woman and her father for injuries he says he suffered in a 2009 car crash. Taylor filed the lawsuit at the beginning of September saying that after that accident he injured his back and had to "endure great pain and suffering, disability, impairment, loss of joy of life." Taylor also says in the lawsuit that the accident was "debilitating."

Alan Macdonald says he was surprised when he saw the lawsuit come across his desk. He says his daughter rear-ended several cars during that accident, Taylor, he says, was one of them. Macdonald says no one went to the hospital after the crash.

He says after watching the video that has taken off across the Internet, he thinks Taylor doesn't look debilitated at all, "he's climbing over other rocks," says Macdonald, after watching the tape, "then he lines up, gets leverage and pushes that big old rock several times before he finally pushes it over," Macdonald continues, "then he turns and twists and high fives and yucks it up and flexes his muscles he just doesn't look like a terribly disabled person to me."

...

These jerks should be barred from all national, state, and local parks. Huge fines levied.

It's not like we can trust them to perform any community service, since they ruin everything they touch.

I doubt they did it ONLY for that reason (I'm sure it was just to see if he could) but yea that shit looked incredibly loose and it didn't take much effort to move. I think it was all the celebration that made it seem rather douchey.

And at the end of the day they are just rocks. The average person knowingly participates in activities on an hourly basis that help screw up this environment and we're getting up in arms over this? Lol, give me a fucking break.

Thank you! Bunch of fucking drama queens in here.....

Some of you people terrify me for calling for the lives of these guys. Please go see a therapist you fucking psychopaths.

‘Goblin’ topplers say they are receiving death threats

Besides facing possible felony charges for pushing over a "goblin" red rock formation, the Utah Boy Scout leaders responsible for the incident say they are receiving death threats from around the world.

Even national scout headquarters is condemning them and considering punishment.

"I’ve got over 100 death threats on the Internet already. I’ve got people all over the world telling me they are going to kill me because I made the decision that lives are more important than this rock staying here a few more hours," said Dave Hall, who filmed scouting partner Glenn Taylor toppling the formation in Goblin Valley State Park as Taylor’s son watches and cheers with them.
In the day since the event became global news, Hall said he’s learned "state parks and national parks are very, very sacred to a lot of people. And that there is a right way and wrong way to handle a dangerous situation in the park. And it is not to take it into your own hands. It is to find someone in authority and let them be the one who does it."
He said their cheering came because "it was a huge adrenalin rush seeing a boulder the size of a car being pushed over by one man. It’s like fireworks going off. It was like a spontaneous, ‘Wow, I can’t believe that just happened.’"

It is pretty amazing that a boulder the size of a car could be pushed over by one man with debilitating injuries.

I am out, this thread is actually making me angry, and that's no good way to start this morning. I can't believe the Taliban blew up that temple.

And those hicks deserve to be punished, if not jail time, then something to make an example. These are not the only idiots with cameras and the will to "protect" people.

People on this forum really disgust me sometimes? Just a rock? I guess that's what you get when 13 year olds sign up.

Is this what people say when others vandalize cars or houses etc? Don't worry it's just a car. Cars are easily replaceable.

Just think, in another 35-40 thousand years, that might have fallen over, and assuming the human race lasts to see that happen, there's a good .005% chance someone would have been standing there and been crushed by it.

Actions redeemed.

Do you remember the Buddha's of Bamiyan? They were these huge statues carved into the mountains of Afghanistan when it was part of Ancient India in the 6th century and even predated Islam as a religion.

The taliban destroyed them with explosives. Humans have been destroying and defacing things for a long time under the guise of war, religion, whatever. So sad at the human culture that has been lost over the millenia.
True. One can only wonder what the Library of Alexandria held within its walls.

I'm an Eagle Scout and I learned a cool fun fact from a park ranger this summer. About 60% of all citations at most state and national parks are from Boy Scouts.

It's a rock.

These guys are morons, but really, this should just be a fine and move on.

Seriously, people calling for jail time?

This is probably the reasonable way to looks at this. BUT like that kid from China who tagged a Pyramid I think we should throw the book at people who sink a little far into the "Ignorant Human-Garbage" zone. Emphasis on ignorant, being stupid is a terrible excuse for anything.
