I think it's surprising that no one talks about free online in this thread.
On both next-gen consoles, you will have to pay a periodic fee to play online. There is no such thing on PC. I find this highly relevant, but maybe I'm the only one. It's too bad PC doesn't really have a platform holder (only in this context of course!!) who could trumpet this from the rooftops in a concerted marketing campaign.

That's why I barely turn my PS3 on, it takes soooo long to get to the gameplay. Looking forward to silent updates in the background and I hope loading times become much better with nextgen,
How MS convinced all those people to pay for XBL I'll never understand. It was genius and apparently not a big drawback for enough gamers. Now PS+ is another story imo, I don't like that it'll be needed for online on PS4 but it provides a ton of value for the average gamer (maybe almost too much, I'll probably never buy a game for my Vita...) and is a quite novel idea that doesn't have an equivalent on PC.

even if one tripples those numbers (which surely isnt the case) it would not disproove my point. you simply cannot (and wont be able to in the future) amortise an investment like crysis 3 through pc sales alone.
thats kinda my point, isnt it?
Of course it is. PC is a next-gen platform without the restrictions. Why not play on it?
I don't know a single PC gamer that doesn't have either a 360/PS3 and I bet eventually an xbone/PS4, even ones that play 90%+ of the time on PC like myself. The whole "threat" thing is stupid, next gen consoles + Wii U aren't a threat to PC gaming, and PC gaming isn't really a threat to next gen consoles + Wii U.

Because there is a thing that exists called console exclusives? And while this isn't 2005 where the majority of quality games fall under that category, their are certainly far more console exclusives that will never go pc that appeal to my and the majority of gamers tastes. Also, the day my console tells me to update my drivers or that my registry is corrupted/ video card incompatible is the day I switch to exclusive pc gamingWhy bother paying $400 - $500 for a console to play indie games and multi-plats.
It doesnt make any sense.
People like to rah rah and slap asses with other PC gamers about having the superior platform, but frankly no one outside of this forum really cares that you are running Titans in SLI or you OCed your CPU and this is coming from someone getting ready to upgrade their graphics card for Xmas.
For me? Lack of games.
Games in general.
JRPGs mostly.
PC gamers did that themselves by pirating the shit out of games.

No. It took current-gen consoles with their multi-core processors to establish multi-core processors among PC gamers and will take next-gen consoles with their hetero-core processors to establish hetero-core processors among PC gamers.
Surprised it took 100 posts for this garbage to show up.

How many gens have we been hearing that now?
Do people somehow trumpet PC and it's vast exclusives and awesome benefits (I mean that sincerely) but forget that many of the notable games (minus the RTS genre) are heavily represented on consoles? And again, many, if not all of the PS4 exclusives will just come out on their machine and we know they have some of the most talented studios in the world. You can't ignore good games because of a preference. It's to your own detriment and a you problem if you limit yourself with refusal to enjoy games on a PS4 or Xbone.
It's funny how that happened. I do remember the cost of online play being a regular point of discussion before.this magically stopped being an issue about five months ago.
First thing's first, ResoGun looks great. Contrast, we will see.this magically stopped being an issue about five months ago.
PC is the only essential platform for the serious gamer. the consoles are essentially proprietary PC wrappers these days which take way more than they give.
just for perspective we're seeing the sony faithful go crazy over things like resogun and contrast, just because they are somehow allied to the platform, while PC had 37 games of similar scope greenlit from developers new to the platform in the last month alone.
You can argue this for consoles as well though. I see no real point as you see the big PC advocates and you see the other side.In threads like this that's more a problem the other way around. Console gamers just love to talk about 'their' exclusives or games that take a while to get to PC and then downplay/ignore the ones on PC for the stupidest of reasons. I also disagree about the 'heavily represented' part. My Recently Played- and Wishlist on Steam is chock-full with games that are and probably will forever be exclusives.
It's funny how that happened. I do remember the cost of online play being a regular point of discussion before.
First thing's first, ResoGun looks great. Contrast, we will see. What's your point though? Stop being such a PC trumpet and at least realize how things like the many games you see on Steam coming to PS4 will push those respective developers into a much more precise spotlight on a dedicated gaming device (the console). For the detriments you try to point out, there are some benefits that come alongside the HW ease of setup and oh yes, the games you cannot play on PC. For those 37 games (of which how many are sure fire amazing games?) you cannot insist that all of them will be great. Just like you can't go back and look at this last years releases on PS3 (for example) and tell me there aren't some duds but also some creative games like Pupeteer. As for the pay to play aspect of online gaming - I don't necessarily disagree but something like Plus won me over. Show me a service like this Netflix-esque service where I am given certain amounts of free games to play as long as I'm a subscriber. With XBL I would agree with you more as they are merely charging you for the luxury of playing online. That is another discussion unto itself. I'm not going to act like I don't love PC but to not be a fan of what Sony has done with Plus is not opinion I share. That loyalty and my dollars were earned. They aren't some inherited right due to me being some kind of hardcore biased follower. I am invested in the PS3/PSP/Vita and soon to be PS4. I will happily continue to pay for Plus for all the benefits it will offer me including remote play which is another little aspect which gets shoved aside.
At the beginning of this gen I didn't care about PC. At the end of the gen that's all I gamed on. I'm all for PS4 but if theres issues or something I'll just stick with PC.

i'm sure for many people it'll make sense to pick up a console to tap in to their favourite developer's walled off console exclusives at some point, but to rely on only consoles is to stay at the shallow end of what gaming can offer you.
L M A O. PC gamer rhetoric is best rhetoric.
Because Titan. No wait gsync is the new hotness.C has always been a threat why does it suddenly matter now?
That list is a joke, Ouya? hehehe
When sony switched over to the dark side in this regard a lot of people here just accepted it as a necessary given...
Even though it was a point of derision visavis Xbox for a long time... funny how that happens.
How much is PS plus?
How much do the throw away games on steam cost? I think you can see that they would be very similar... and you keep those games forever whilst having the luxury to mod, tweak, etc...
It's funny how that happened. I do remember the cost of online play being a regular point of discussion before.
I'm starting to wonder how many more people are going to mention the Ouya as the definitive proof of how "that list is a joke" without even paying attention to what they actually said about the Ouya. That list is a joke, Ouya? hehehe
To answer your first point - Do you realize that Plus was a dud for a while and none of us (especially me) wanted to re-sub? It took months for them to start getting their IGC going and it earned my money. Again, not an inherited right and if you compare it to XBL, it wins handily since it doesn't put services that are free behind a paywall. Something that is continuing with PS4.
Your second point, Plus is 50USD a year. I throw away lots more on Steam. I don't really disagree all that much with this point.
My first point still stands even if I agree with your second.
Do we really need to re-open the case of "The Witcher 2"?
If you don't know what I'm talking about, feel free to google it.
It's funny how you're constantly ignoring the value of PS+ and the practical irrelevance of this pay wall for many PlayStation users.
First thing's first, ResoGun looks great. Contrast, we will see.

It doesnt make any sense.
If Sony had something like Gsync it would probably help games like Knack a lot since they have a framerate that can be anywhere from 30-60 fps.
No, don't.Do we really need to re-open the case of "The Witcher 2"?
I would love the patching process and verification of data via Steam on PS4. I think because of the nature of how they've slowly built it up as a service from the crap that it was helps. I'm glad it didn't take off at first because it really didn't deserve to.Thanks for the nice response.
Oddly enough with PSN... I think I would have been really content that I was paying nothing to play games online: so long as the patching processes were OK and there were not major connection issues. And then have devs themselves decide whether or not they want dedicated servers or not (aka like the PC space).
Would you have been satisified if they did not make it cost money? but instead you would able to play online for free with a patching process like steam and the choice-based server set up`(per dev)?
Instead of being a service... it would be a content delivery service and server browser.
I'm not gonna lie, I had no idea about Strike Vector but I now want it. I can't argue against good games no matter which platform. I hate to be one of those people who cherry picks as you noted and that's why I honestly try and stay away from those lists you and I see in threads pop up when people try to compare console vs console or vs PC. I'm finding it hard to disagree with your point entirely other than those few contradictions in certain aspect on how we view things.when you have over 100+ games being added a month, it's not about some metacritic approved SHIT/OKAY/GREAT scale, its about having the flexibility to find the experiences tailored just for you.
go in to hype thread regarding the PS4 launch and it's like some weird bizarre cult where everybody has the exact same tastes for the same cherry picked exclusives, all coiled up and ready to lash out and any review which doesn't legitimise it.
i mean, sure, resogun looks great. it plays great. but just taking one game from the greenlight list, can you really say that the PS faithful wouldn't be screaming this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sKyK90Rndns game's name from the hills if it was a proprietary exclusive?
Can't disagree there. Would be great. If Sony had something like Gsync it would probably help games like Knack a lot since they have a framerate that can be anywhere from 30-60 fps.
