EDGE: "Power struggle: the real differences between PS4 and Xbox One performance"

lmao, edge is legit, said ps4 is teh best!!!

few weeks later:

edge is not legit, said xb1 isn't that bad!

god forbid that some people have positive stuff to say about the xbox one, but of course teh money hatz.

don't ever change gaf.

The eSRAM is a bandaid for their low bandwidth so they don't get completely destroyed by the ps4 bandwidth wise. Not some magic advantage. If it was some magic advantage it would be used more in PCs.

SS looks pretty, but I didn't think the first two Infamous games were all that great (and they were really ugly too, especially the first one) so I don't see why someone couldn't think DR3 would be more fun.

Of course some people will like one game over another, but the way the article is presented as if these are all facts

I don't think power drives gameplay. It's actually one of the reasons I was considering not to buy a ps4. My ps3 still has so many fun indie games coming to it and backlogged.

Sadly, I have to agree. From a visuals perspective, I also think Ryse looks better than Killzone. I also think that Dead Rising 3 looks more fun than inFAMOUS: Second Son, so I will give them that as well. Despite the shit storm that Microsoft has created around itself, the Xbox One is still going to have some beautiful and very fun games. Just sayin'.

and you shouldn't be shunned for thinking that.

Power absolutely drives game play.

Mario 64 is one of the games synonymous with 3D platforming and that was impossible to SNES. More power changed the way we played and gave the creators a means to create a world closer to their imagination.

Not getting either Ryse or KZ but If I had to pick it would be KZ. Ryse just looks like a bad game from what I've seen. Development history is worrying as well.

DR3 is just mindless. Correct me if I'm wrong but the game has no story and no context....inFamous is infinitely better in terms of being an overall better game.

That's because transition from 2D to 3D is more than adding power, it's a whole "paradigm shift" to use old buzzwords. The transition between the current gen and the next one (or even between the previous one and the current) is much less important.

inFamous 1 was indeed rough.

inFamous 2 was gorgeous.

(Talking visuals here.)

I think of it as more power doesn't necessarily get you better gameplay, but less power can stop you getting better gameplay, if that makes any sense.

Yeah, not even sure what that means. do I want 100 mindless husks that run at me and slap me with their hands while my health bar whittles away, or do I want 10-20 enemies with their own individual AI who take cover, fire of grenades, utilize their own powers, etc. that I need to take down one at a time?

There's a place for Dead Rising 3, but comparing it to any Infamous game is really reaching.

I believe there IS a story for DR3... It just hasn't been shown yet. Ryse BARELY gave us a story trailer last week.... and Infamous does looks awesome but I'm hyped for DR3 as well!!

After all is said and done, I don't think PS4 games are going to look that much better in the beginning of the new gen nor are the XBO games going to look that much worse at the end of the it to most people. Sure the PS4 will have some shining moments in the middle. But until then the Xbox One is a solid choice as a first next gen console.

That is fine and I can see where you are coming from. Ryse does not look like anything special in the gameplay department, but it looks fun. I love hack n' slash games and the beautifully realized Roman setting. I also think it is the best looking launch title from a graphics standpoint.

As for DR3, they have done what I have been waiting for them to do to this series. Make it fully open world with all of the insanity intact. That looks more fun to me than climbing around buildings with all of these insane powers, but Second Son is still very much something I want to play. I love the inFAMOUS series.

totally perfectly fine opinion to have.

I also think KZ looks like a better game then Ryse.

The number of people suddenly expressing their distrust of Edge because of the newer fluff piece is pretty jarring. It's hard not to assume this about-face has more to do with the directions of the conclusions than the validity of the info. Making universal claims in the first place about an outlet being trustworthy or not trustworthy can get obnoxious real fast, but that's doubly-so when it appears that the distinction is decided by whether the opinions validate someone's existing views.

Got a response from Shinobi. New thread on the way. Let's wait till that goes up. Don't want this thread that has lasted so long to turn ugly. :)

You're comparing a first-person shooter with a third-person melee-based action-adventure game, and you're saying a game you've never played is "a better overall game" than another one you've never played. That might be a premature assumption to work under.

I totally understand what you mean if you're saying one appeals to you more than the other stylistically, or that based on previous games in each series, one has more of a draw than the other. It just sounds like you're making some odd comparisons and overreaching declarations about a lot of different games.

There's been little to no media for SS. So to make that kind of statement is ridiculous. It's not wrong to say DR3 is looking to be really good or fun. But to go yeah DS3 is shaping up to be better than SS or vice versa, then you just lost all credibility.

Second Son looks good but I haven't enjoyed a single Sucker Punch game since after the first Sly Raccoon so I'm very dubious about the games quality, especially as I found the first two to be very mediocre (or in the second games case at times just outright awful)

Im not a fan of the infamous series either. I think this one looks legit though. Feels different

I think of it as more power doesn't necessarily get you better gameplay, but less power can stop you getting better gameplay, if that makes any sense.

Kinda? I mean, doesn't that make power a necessity to drive gameplay? My thought process is that if you have more power to realize the world you want you thus can make/evolve gameplay to fit accordingly.

Of course you can have teams that do not utilize power to change things up because of maybe a certain genre, the size of their team, etc. but power will always help if utilized properly.

When I see power with consoles, I see playgrounds. PS1 is like a sandbox, you're limited by space but you can still have fun with your imagination. PS2 is like a larger park and you now have a sandbox and a jungle gym, so instead of only playing the sand is lava you can play hide and seek as well as and so on and so forth.

Has the SDK or API calls leaked?

No but the developers Kagari talks to on an almost daily basis are familiar with them as well as all the developers at E3/Gamescom talking about them and even the pieces published by the press which quote anonymous(for an obvious reason) developers.

Could do, I'm very open to giving it a chance and usually take games on a game by game basis. Plus one of the games I've enjoyed a lot this year is Lost Planet 3 (which really surprised me) and that had the almighty Spark Unlimited make that one so if they can make a decent game anyone can :P

Yep, i think its because the character in Second Son seems to actually have a personality. Whereas in Infamous and Infamous 2 it was just some weird guy, who is as forgettable as video game characters get.

Sure. They're both barely B-tier series (so far) although I've probably had more fun chopping up zombies than monkeying around buildings.

See and that's perfectly fine as that's your opinion and a reasonable one

The article just reads like it's fact that DR3 is going to be a better game based on what we know now which in Infamous's cases is not all that much

I also find the Ryse graphics comment to be a fair bit disingenuous considering Shadowfall but that's an opinion on my part

Also apparently I'm the only person on the planet that enjoyed the first 2 infamous games so my opinion is probably moot it would seem

Especially as I never played the vampire DLC for infamous 2

I feel the same way. The first two games did nothing for me but I'm really digging the style shown so far with the new one. Also, Troy Baker.

That makes three of us at least. Had no inclination to playing the other ones or even getting into the series, but something about this one compels me.
