New gameplay screenshots of The Order 1886

What's with the cg comments in this thread? Game looks like a slight step up from TLoU at best imo.

Really looking forward to it, but there's been a ton of hyperbolic quotes as it pertains to the games visuals.

That's because those indoor pics look like they could have been from that game with the exception of the character.

That was my exact response when I saw the original scans.

"This looks like TLOU with PS4 character models from a much more stylized games shoved in."

Now there are some things that are a bit better obviously, but as a whole it looks like two disparate games joined together both quality wise and artistically.

Game looks insane. What game will be the first one to bring in the next gen in crazy fashion: Infamous: SS or The Order?

I not so sure either will (though the graphics are gonna be badass for both). If one of them adds an interesting gameplay element like the way Gears of War popularized cover gameplay, then maybe. The only game doing this so far looks to be Titanfall with the added verticality element bringing something new, but Titanfall's graphics are nothing special. I think the first game to combine next gen graphics with an interesting gameplay element will bring in the next gen in crazy fashion.

Its `building` hype gentlemen, the graphics look great, I'm sure the quality of the images both in detail and of shot type will improve as they release more.

The game looks great, but what's up with the texture filtering on those bricks? Almost looks like there's no AF, or something.

Then again, these images are all shitty and compressed.
Quite a bit of next gen consoles don't have much AF still.

/sigh.

Are they using the letter boxing at all for UI elements?

No idea. My guess is that they won't do that because it would be weird and contradictory to their professed vision of the filmic aspect ratio.

Seeing these screens, and thinking about my 40" TV, I'm coming around to the side that thinks this aspect ratio might not be a great idea.

Every time terrible screenshots of anticipated games get posted they are immediately praised for no other reason than hype.

I am sure the final game will look great but those are truly awful screenshots.

They should have at least shown one screenshot with a set piece in it, instead of all/most being screenshots of a room.
That's what will happen when magazine ask for pretty ingame screenshots a year before release...hell the game is not even pre-alpha on a normal schedule.

The screens actually look a lot better in the digital mag. They're brighter and you can see a lot more in the pictures. Seems Game Informer made them far darker for some reason.

Not exactlly impressed. Shitty aspect ratio and jaggies everywhere. Doesn't look much better than The Last of Us. Granted, that's a phenomenal looking game. But given the hardware jump I expect a lot better.

I suppose, based on the media shown so far, I have two concerns.

1. Nothing particularly outlandish or incredible with the engine. I think it looks fine artistically, but the lighting seems off (a bit flat/muted), and most of the shots so far have been devoid of any really interesting locations or set pieces. Like, "here's a dusty room". I'm not seeing much done by the engine that isn't already being done elsewhere.

2. I'm still not exactly sure how it plays beyond being another linear third person shooter, maybe with a bit more Resident Evil 4 and less Gears of War. I don't know. Doesn't necessarily make for a bad game, especially since I love a good linear action game, but they're not selling many gameplay hooks in the shots.

At the same time, not knowing a lot about the game (locations and gameplay) means there's obviously a lot more to show. A proper reveal trailer that shows off the gameplay should do a better job of presenting The Order for what it is, and I look forward to seeing it when it comes.

They look better in the e-magazine they have lost a lot of details in the article version of the screens I have no idea why.

Yeah, these screens don't show how beautiful the game looked in the mag. At least you can see the general look of the game, though.

Those are really bad looking screens. Did they publish better looking one's in their new issue, or has this one not come out yet?

Edit: Should have popped onto the last page of the thread. Looks like the screens were better in the mag :p

People keep saying this... Just like they said about Killzone, Ryse, NBA 2k14, Knack...

The game is not even close to finished. It should get even better.

I think this game's visual impressiveness are entirely dependent on seeing it in motion.

I think there will be plenty of stuff in the game (when it's closer to being finished) that is impressive in still screens as well.

But I do hope the animation and monster designs are varied and exciting. I care a lot more about that than I care about run down building interiors.

almost as bad as

Those are disappointing.

Last of Us looks better*. I hope it is due to shit quality images from GI.

*I WILL post screenshots if challenged.
What??? Love the negative enforced HATE for games based on a screenshot!!

Game looks stunning, theses are the shots from the mag minus 2 really good ones, one from the scene when you drag a copper away while shooting and the other shows one of the hybrid things on fire running on the ledge of a building.

The game has an interesting story with no silly ( and easy ) sci-fi setting, with a solid back story and superb character design, backed up with a beautiful looking aesthetics and I am even intrigued by the film link, with the stuff about treating the view as a camera and portraying scenes in-game from the most dynamic and appropriate view.

No game no matter how good can escape the hate of the GAF!!! Lol

Giant black bars on my screen are going to crush any impressive graphics this thing might deliver all for the sake of a more "filmic" quality :/

Five out of six shots are just dude in a dimly lit room.

And would it kill someone to just release some good quality screens of the game? I guess this is what you get with GI exclusivity.

Sure. The characters models are damn good. I just think since they put such an emphasis on the game being so cinematic seeing it in motion would better capture that. for example, that screen with dust flying around in the room does nothing in a screenshot but in action it probably looks incredible.
