Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | October 2013 | Ver 2000, Batman and some Angry Birds

Welcome! You will love VitaGAF, easily the best place on this great forum.

The first one is horror adventure (like old school Zelda or 16bit jrpgs but without menus) while the second one is a visual novel. You should take a look at the trailers for both on YouTube to get a better feel for how each plays. Btw, both are extremely gruesome games. Not for everyone but great games still if you like the genre.

Edit: For those buying any of the Corpse Party Titles just now, you HAVE to play them with headphones. Easily on of the games with best sound effects of the PSP.

Like Zelda? How so? Now you have my interest.
It looked like it was sort of like playing an old school SNES RPG, but without combat.
I really don't want something where the "gameplay" is solely reading text and choosing who to talk to or whatever. I am not a fan of the PW games, for instance... so yeah... with that in mind, if you can convince me there's actual gameplay to these, I'd be willing to drop $10 on the first and maybe $10 on the sequel if I like what I try of the first.

Words and stuff unrelated to the following sentiment.

I. CANNOT. BEAT. MALICIOUS. REBIRTH. STORY. 2.
It makes me sooooo angry.

Has anyone bought Lego Marvel for Vita? Any impressions?

Watched a short gameplay video on Youtube, and this is what I got from it- graphics looked better than other Lego games on the Vita, but it is level based with an isometric view, it lacks character swapping, lacks an openworld, seems to lack a hub, and looks to pretty much be a Lego beat 'em up, which can be controlled entirely with the touch screen.

Here's the video in question- http://youtu.be/5JYprSjdPc4
iOS version confirmed.

This is golden. Well done Toto! Man oh man did I love the Nintendo 64.

Ok, I'm in - just ordered an import Vita 2000 (blue/white model.) I have been playing my 3ds constantly, and leaving my PS3 to collect dust, so it was time for another portable gaming system! I have PS+, so I have a nice collection to start with (member since June.) I can't wait to get it and start playing - now maybe I can catch up on all those PSP j-rpgs I missed due to basically disliking the analog nubs on my PSP? Can't wait for the new Ys game as well. All my friends think I'm crazy, but I don't care - I think the Vita is going to make it, at least for the games I enjoy!
3DS and Vita is a great couple. They get along so well with their library differences.

If you like JRPGs, I don't think vita will disappoint you. I don't know about its future in terms of success, but it'll get good games. I can understand why your friends would think you're crazy though. lol

Welcome to VitaGAF! Pretty chill place. Good amount of different opinions.

General PS question.

anything good on the PSN store for dirt cheap?

and by dirt cheap I mean a 1000 yen is my limit
That's compatible on the vita? Other than fish-on, there's nothing region exclusive other than psp and ps1 classics at that price. But if you are specifically looking for a recommendation within those parameters, Policenauts for ps1! Assuming you haven't already played it and can read Japanese. Also kollon if you like puyo style puzzle games.

Sorry if I didn't explain myself correctly. I meant strictly the looks department. CP looks like those games. The first one is more exploration and story-driven. Second one plays like a visual novel. If you like SH or Lone Survivor you will definitely dig Corpse Party. It's atmosphere is great.

I've seen mixed reviews on Walking Dead Vita.
Some call out technical problems, others say they're present in all versions.

Can someone clue me in on if I should be dropping $9.79 on this?

I don't have the Vita version, but there are some noticeable framerate drops in the PS3 version. They don't affect gameplay at all though since TWD is a fairly slow-paced adventure game.

Idk about the performance issues on vita but there are definitely performance issues in every other version of the game. If the vita is on par with the other verisons then it's still playable.

Also this is more or less a click to walk around and talk to people/watch the story game with no real combat or gameplay as you call it.

Was looking into Policenauts because I've never played it. But then I saw rainbow six vegas was free on PS+ so I decided to buy 1 month....then I saw they where running a 15 day free trail

welp.

I've got the vita version of the walking dead (never played the ps3 verson) and there are some really annoying pauses between cutscenes and action.

At first, I thought it was a design thing but it's not... It struggles a little bit.

I'm far from a frame rate nazi - I can put up with technical problems if I'm engrossed in the game but this really got in my nerves.

You haven't played it yet? Then you *owe* yourself in buying this.

Hot damn, I bought it for 19.99 when it first launched.

This final boss is ridiculous.
I want to throw my Vita.

If it's the Malicious boss you were talking about earlier, I should say that I forgot to mention that you cannot block the majority of its attacks. Maybe I should try to record a video of how I beat it lol

What difficulty are you on btw? I beat it on normal.

That's what I'm trying to figure out... if it's bad enough to warrant not purchasing it for $10.

Overall it does, you do lose yourself to the world when playing, except for when the game stutters, or you get those extended loading screens. It just breaks things up a little too much. Hopefully this can be patched and fixed at some point.
That being said, it didn’t stop us burning through each episode again and being taken on a bit of a rollercoaster of emotion throughout each of the episodes.

All of this however is impacted horrifically by the most painfully timed loading hangs that appear throughout the game. Every time Lee is faced with a significant event, or action is required – hang. Once you regain control players who have had experience of the console versions of this game will find they have a couple of seconds less to react to whatever is coming; no big deal with a conversation, utterly frustrating with a zombie attack. With a longish pause welcoming you if you manage to die, these hangs can quickly test your patience in a way the game never intended. Even worse, these pauses drag you out of the immersion of the game, shattering the narrative by telegraphing upcoming ‘surprises’ and ultimately breaking the connection you hold with Lee. Unfortunately these issues seem universal, and Telltale have already stated that there are no plans for a patch at this time.

I own it on steam, but as with most games, I prefer them on Vita.
So I'm tempted to do it, but most of the reviews are in line with what Omerta is saying -- the stutters from cutscene to action are kind of bad.

Normal.
And I'm not trying to block -- don't have time with the 9999 aura ticking down.
But with the framerate so low, it's kind of hard to get my dodge timed right... it's infuriating.
I even tried going ... uh...

MALICIOUS but that didn't help either. I tried dropping my defensive costume and my damage did not go up enough to offset the lack of defense.

What's worse is that I can't do what you suggested. I get in 1 punch combo of []x3, /\... and then I start the second and get blown back by the counter. Then I'm struggling to close the gap and by the time I get in 3 or 4 punches, she either (1) dodges back out of range and I miss them all or (2) throws the damn counter (throwing me across the map) or some attack that I have to dodge back (and widen the gap between us). Or she pulls the gut stab cinematic throw and just destroys me.

It's aggravating. And here I thought the last fight was annoying.

I resisted buying TWD for what felt like years because I wanted it on vita... I regret that now to be honest.

I prefer playing almost everything on vita but this is the exception that proves the rule.

I just tried my method twice, it definitely works. You can't get too greedy with your combos. Just keep an eye on the boss and dash away whenever it telegraphs an attack. If you're close enough, the lock on indicator will even flash onscreen and make a sound to warn you.

Your game must have different AI than mine. :lol

Don't feel guilty man, I made the same mistake.

Initially I thought it was a competent port, but the more I played it, the more I couldn't get past how shitty it performed. The loading-in stutter is truly horrendous in this version. They also shoulda capped the framerate for the sake of visual consistency as well.
I could deal with the missing shadows. Sure it looked weird and I can't understand how you wouldn't be able to have at least Lee cast his own, it still got away with it due to the comic book look. Same with the missing Depth of Field.
But that loading... That's what did me in. When you're waiting upwards of 3-4 seconds for a quick decision to actually load-in, it just becomes distracting no matter what. The game literally felt like it took longer to play.

Skip it and play it on PS3 or PC instead.

No seriously, DO NOT BUY TWD VITA

Ah well, just keep trying I guess.
I'll see if I can get a video up as an example later.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I get the premise.
But it doesn't allow me to use your strategy... I'm just not doing enough damage quickly.
This is twice I've gone from 9999 to 0 aura and it lives. DPS just isn't high enough.
Add in two command grabs and the effin' clones...

Edit: Bitch, meet the attack+ costume. See you on the other side, Skyzard.

Grrr... my Bear No Evil trophy didn't pop. WTF. It must've counted that test run I did to see if it would help my damage output enough. :|

I'm really tempted to buy the Western costumes for $2.
Anyone have a screenshot or video of them being used? The chibi type artwork on the store page is cute and all, but I can't say if I want to spend $2 on it.

Bah, just as I finished recording the video too. :b
I have no problem beating it before my aura runs out (usually have 2000 or so left), so idk what you were doing but at least you got that over with. Now good luck S-ranking everything. :D

Here's what the costume looks like on both characters btw:

The game had me bawling like a baby at times.

It's quite the tale; highs and lows affecting and beautifully told.

The Vita version has performance issues present in the other console versions. Overall, to experience a game story this good can be forgiven

Interest waning.
Thanks.

Basically, what you do there is wandering around the school (as you advance through the chapters there are new areas), eluding ghosts and solving some puzzles. Sometimes you'll have to look for something that a "good" ghost has asked to you. Other's you'll have to find a way to leave a locked room. But yeah, is a game with lots of text.

Still, I thought it was pretty good. There are a bunch of different endings for each chapter (most are bad endings with 1 or 2 being "good) and a couple of bonus chapters where you learn things about other people that died in the school.

The story is good (not GOTY good) but gets its job done and has a couple of pretty good moments. I thought that it was a pretty fun game and a good choice if you like things I explained to you before, didn't mind a little dose of anime stereotypes and kinda like the japanese way to tell horror stories :) (I'm not a huge fan, but it was fun)

I actually bit on Corpse Party... but can't bring myself to buy Book of Shadows. I'm not digging the switch to first person.

I played the PC and Vita version of the game.

Those stutters/loading times between cutscene/gameplay transitions are pretty bad and break the immersion a little bit. It doesn't hurt the gameplay though, you won't die because of it.

Besides those stutters, I enjoyed playing it again on the Vita. Game looks nice and because of the artstyle there isn't a big downgrade in the graphics.
Unfortunately they didn't allow for touch and traditional controls together, you have to choose one playstyle.

Because I enjoy playing on my Vita more than on my PC, I am still happy that I decided to switch my playthrough of the series to the Vita.
As far as I know, the PC version still has the save game destroying bug.

You surely have to play the game, it is a great experience, although some people overhype the storytelling and characters a little bit.

TWD on Vita isn't any worse in terms of the decision lag/stutters than the other versions (except PC if you have one nice enough). It is missing shadows and DoF, which every version except iOS has (though it has better graphics than the iOS version). It generally runs at a higher framerate and with less bugs than the PS3 version (I own both).

I have the 1st Corpse Party on the PSP and yet for some reason I never actually played it beyond just 5 to 6 minutes in, IIRC.

I feel bad seeing how many of you seem to gush over it.

I *am* in the mood for some scary horror shit though....

Oh you have a JPN PSN account? Thing is PSX games are 600 Yen, just look up the PSX list and make a list of games that would interest you.
Note that the JPN Crash games have differences from the English releases.

Did you mean to quote me?
Not sure why we're talking about me and JPN PSN accounts... (I do have one, but never bought anything on it.)

Dear god, the 64GB mem card just arrived in my country's store. Its $169, close to $140 USD D:
The mem card is nearly half the price of one vita!
