Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | October 2013 | Ver 2000, Batman and some Angry Birds

Considering getting a vita, is the wifi/3G model with killzone mercenary for $269 AUD a good price?

What sized memory card would be best if there is only around 5 or 6 games I plan on buying?

It's a reasonable price. Unless you find a sale you won't get much cheaper. Don't bother with a 3G model, you are better off tethering your phone internet if you want mobile online play. How many games do you plan on buying digitally? If it's all of them, then how many are you happy with keeping on your Vita at any one point? If you want to keep them all you will want to look at a 16-32gb card. If you plan on going physical games you can get away with a 4-8gb card with a little extra space for DD only games.

Edit: another top of the page!

Did you buy Wipeout 2048 + HD/Fury yet?

Deception 4 is made by fatal frame creator and will be released February 27 2014, here's all the new infos:

Who said that? Marvelous USA? If so, it's PC or 360 and likely not PSP.

Thanks! Post some screens too!

I have the 1st Corpse Party on the PSP and yet for some reason I never actually played it beyond just 5 to 6 minutes in, IIRC.

I feel bad seeing how many of you seem to gush over it.

I *am* in the mood for some scary horror shit though....

If you mean 5-6 vita retail games, then 16gb at least
If you mean 5-6 mostly psp/ps1/psn games, 8gb is stretching it a little but may be sufficient

I still have to get a traveling case, a grip, a memory card (preferably 64gb) and something to protect the screen. Should i just browse amazon or are there any good deals on this stuff out there?

Has anyone bought Lego Marvel for Vita? Any impressions?

Watched a short gameplay video on Youtube, and this is what I got from it- graphics looked better than other Lego games on the Vita, but it is level based with an isometric view, it lacks character swapping, lacks an openworld, seems to lack a hub, and looks to pretty much be a Lego beat 'em up, which can be controlled entirely with the touch screen.

Here's the video in question- http://youtu.be/5JYprSjdPc4
Too bad this is not an open world but man this looks like an awesome brawler!
Graphics looks good too.

New on european stores:

-Valhalla Knights 3 (29,99€, 896Mb)
-Doodle Devil (5,99€, 20Mb)
-StarDrone & BreakQuest Extra Evolution Bundle (7,99€, 282Mb)

Don't forget to get the new PS+ games too

booted up Corpse Party for a little last night, thanks to the sale.

despite such simple graphics, the game does an excellent job being creepy. i think playing with good headphones really helped, as the sound direction is top notch.

how long are these games? hoping for a nice, tight 8ish hour adventure...

is it worth the sale price? not really into horror or creepy games but am itching to spend on my Vita

well from my standpoint: love adventure games, desperate for a pnc style game on my glorious Vita, feelin the Halloween season, interested in visual novels but never played one since the Ace Attorney trilogy... 10 bucks was a no brainer. got the sequel too, just because.

i need more play time to form a real review, but my initial impressions are: yeah its worth it. keep in mind the game is very heavy on the anime style stuff, and the voice acting is all in japanese.

Try the game for a bit longer. If CP has one fault, for me is its somewhat long intro (about an hour).

Hotline is pretty fun. i'm typically not one for highscore games, but i'm enjoying it for what it is.

Do people use the right stick? i feel like that controls weird... still getting used to the physics of weapons and alertness of the AI.

overall this is the perfect game that i've been craving on my vita for a little bit now. Able to do quick rounds is great. it goes so fast. Now i'm not so blood thirsty for bit trip runner 2.

How do I get combos? do I have to kill multiple guys within a certain time of each kill? i'm guessing the guns blazing isn't the best strategy because it gets your exposure up? any other tips?

there's an imaginary (well, not imaginary but, ya know) timer that counts down after performing a kill. getting another before this timer runs down resets the timer and adds one to your combo.

theres a mask that gives you a bigger timer to make combos that much easier

Now don't you wish you'd listened to us and supported the developer? :P

Isn't right stick for aiming? You have to use the right stick. :lol

As Esoteric points out, combos are for quick kill succession -- there are two masks which up your speed and a mask that ups the combo window. Using those, you can get larger combos.

And getting your exposure up is good... being reckless is good.. makes your score go way up.

I can confirm to you PS+ content has been updated.

Note guys, there is a Destiny of Spirits beta available for PS+ members too

Valhalla knights 3 at 29.99€! :O
Wasn't 39.99€? Not that i'm complaining :)

I'm downloading vk3 and destiny of spirits beta.

Naaaaah, the video speaks for itself really.
Even at 720p a youtube video is not as clear as a native screenshot!

So how is the digital version of The Walking Dead on the Vita? Thinking about picking it up with the sale this week but the stuff I'm reading makes it seem pretty iffy. Is it any more broken than every other Telltale game?

My Vita showed up today at my office. After a quick look during lunch, I finally got around to play some Wipeout on it. I already love it. It feels great, I dunno why but I expected it to have bigger buttons (never tried one before) and better triggers (the left one feels a bit loose on mine). The screen is gorgeous (it's still the first edition, with the OLED) and all in all the first impression has been pretty much positive, except for the fact that everything needs one touch too much to open: I mean, it would've been much better if I could just see what my friends are doing or what trophies I earned without tapping twice on the screen. It's not just laziness, it's something that doesn't feel right to me.

I'll try Uncharted and Gravity Rush in a bit, but I already feel the need for another memory card, the 8GB that were inside the box aren't enough, I was thinking of getting a 16GB for now and maybe at Christmas import a 64GB.

The LiveArea is weird at first and some apps could just boot right into without it. Having the activity feed, game patches and cloud saves available there is great though.

i think we can all agree that the vita os would be substantially better if friends/near/messaging was just always-on and easily accessible. it's stupid that they are in their own apps. i hope they eventually fix that.

Make sure you realize that in the live feed of any game, you can scroll down and see what any of your friends are doing that have played the game. It's pretty damn cool.

At this point you might as well just wait for the 64GB to be released worldwide. A 16GB is not going to be a worthwhile upgrade from 8GB, it's still too small.

Yeah, I meant the LiveArea, forgot the name. I don't mind if it's a game, as you and Dragon said it's a pretty cool feature and really damn useful, but if it's an "essential" app (messaging, friend list, trophies and so on) I fail to see the point.

Didn't notice it at first, I couldn't understand why I couldn't launch Ecolibrium. Then I noticed that there was an update icon In the LiveArea.

I guess I'll do that, the 64GB is around 80-90€ (shipping included iirc), the 16GB is around 30€ with Modnation Racers. I'd have to buy another one sooner or later, it might be better if I just bite now.

I'm going to wager that'll be a long wait. Not until 2014, according to our resident leaker.

Check the conversations I've been having with various Vitabros on the subject in the last few pages.

what is everyone buying to hit $50?

i'm thinking:
corpse party
corpse party: book of shadows
lone survivor
alundra
tomba!

and something else... maybe lunar. never played that one...

EDF 2017 Portable
Kung Fu Rabbit
DMC HD Collection
Malicious Rebirth
Corpse Party
Walking Dead Vita

Lone Survivor next week.
Maybe Corpse Party: Book of Shadows, though I'm not thrilled they changed it to a first person view.

Also in the mix:
Mirror of Fate HD if they release it before next Thursday (like XBL)
Gurumin (Hi, Toto!)
Rayman Legends
Killzone Mercenary

thanks Eso & Corro! Thats what i assumed regarding the combos. Yeah the right stick is for aiming, it just feels too sensitive maybe?
also, instead of running around aiming i've just been using square to lock on the target and time my attack accordingly. haha.

the animations and quickness of the characters and weapons feels so good. love it. its actually also one of the reasons i liked spelunky ( the speed of the character).

the fact that it works in such small bursts is great and makes me crave BTRunner2 even more on vita.

regarding my 50$ ( maybe 100$):

picked up DC last week for 30. not sure of exact prices but the games i'm interested in getting are:

Resi 4HD - 5.50
Walking Dead DLC - 2.50
Siren:BC 10
Killzone 35$
Puppeteer 20$

and I want to put a preorder in for Tearaway ( Ham's hinting impressions sold that preorder).

anyone know if the DLC will work with my retail copy ( all on ps3 )

Be happy you weren't an early adopter. You used to have to go through a 5-10 second waiting screen as the vita reconnected to PSN every time you switched between any app that connected to it (friends, party, ps store, trophies, games). Those were dark times. The UI has really been improved a lot since

decided to go digital with Batman Blackgate, that boxart was just ugly as hell.

publishers need to put more demos for new games on Vita store, the demo section is just sad.

lol, i'm on ignore list of half the Vitakittens here so a Vita related thread by me will be a wasteland.

Why?

Your cynicism and bluntness is always a great counterpoint to the starryeyed hopes of 99% of the posters here, know most of your points are agreed with by me.

Please make that OT, hah and please add some of that Toto flare to it as I would very much selfishly enjoy it haha.

oddworld seems pretty cool
framerate drops in some areas though and it feels like there's a bit of input lag (why do so many ports seem to suffer from input lag? it was especially bad in the jak&daxter ports)

The Killzone artbook app is pretty neat, it has some nice art and comments from the devs. Two downsides is the size(764mb) and you can't really take screenshot and use it for wallpapers as there's buttons and text in the lower left corner.

I agree, and didn't Sony say initially that every Vita game would have a demo? For the first 6 months or so that seemed to be the case.

Proteus is out on the 29th of October in North America and the 30th of October in Europe with some interesting sounding Vita only additions.

The PlayStation version of Proteus comes with additional features not found in the PC version, including taking advantage of the Vita’s portability to allow users to generate the games island worlds based on their location in the real world. Players will also be able to effect the environment directly for the first time in the game, giving new depth and immersion into the dreamlike worlds they can explore in game.
