Vita PSN Game & Service Thread | October 2013 | Ver 2000, Batman and some Angry Birds

Just want to get that 10 bucks bonus... I mean, why the hell not?

So, I already bought Malicious Rebirth, which was how much... 14.99 IIRC? 15.

42 bucks left.

Both corpse party games: 20. so that's 35 total, which will bring my wallet to 22.

What can I get to make me eligible for that 10 bucks... hmmm.

Not vita game but... Puppeteer?

Are the L & R buttons particularly prone to wearing down? I just played through a game where holding down R allows you to run at a higher speed, so it's taken the most abuse from a handheld that's only roughly 2 months old. I just noticed that if I press R all the way down, unless I actually press it against its base there are times where it won't register. And it doesn't have the same resistance as my L button.

Is this reason to call Sony and have it fixed or is it just normal wear of poorly designed shoulder buttons?

oh, you're just looking for suggestions -- well, lone survivor is $9 next week
so you'd need something over $6 after that if you went that direction.

I completed Uncharted: Golden Abyss last night. Overall I really enjoyed the game, but it really does bring home the fact to me that the current Uncharted formula is getting a little old. There is a lot of combat in it, and enemies really do act like bullet sponges at times, and I don't much care for the puzzles in the game either, they just break the pace for me. I also thought the forced touch based combat, catching ledges and balancing (WHY?!?! It makes Drake look like a dumb ass) was weak and I wish it was optional.

Still, the game plays very really well, looks and sounds stunning and has very high production quality. It's a beautifully presented game and really does feel like Uncharted. I also liked the balance of climbing/combat over the console games. Not sure if I'l go through again on Crushing or to do all the photography and item collection as there is so much in it! :)

I think after The Last of Us, ND will be giving Uncharted a bit of a reboot to freshen things up a bit. That's just my opinion though! Cool game, but for me the formula is a little tired for me now.

How good is Xenogears compared to the PS1 FFs and CC? Got a $50 card, plus spent $30 already. Need to find $20 more worth of games.

battle system wise is better than those, story is so so, disc 1 was good the 2nd was mediocre in comparison, and it has mechas, buy buy buy.

I found Golden Abyss the most satisfaying Uncharted gameplay wise. Gyro aiming is awesome, most battles are in a smaller scale, stealth works really good and collectibles were a lot better than in the other games. Story was not that good though.

I'm playing U3 now and I understand how so much people think it's the worst in the saga. Aiming in a place that is constantly swinging (like the ship or the plane) is shit. I've wasted lots of ammo because of that shit. I hated almost every single second in the ship. I'd choose a 10 hours train level over that xD. I'm in the desert, but i'm forcing myself to finish it.

For me, right now is U2 > UGA > TR 2013 = U1 > U3.

But, I don't really love shooting games. I think I'd like TLOU a lot more. Its pace and their stealth elements would probably be really cool for me.

Incoming mini wall of text.

Malicious is a game focused on fighting various bosses in enclosed, arena-like stages. You start out by selecting an arena, which takes you to the boss immediately. The boss is usually accompanied by lesser enemies that you can use to gain Aura, which allows you to heal yourself when injured (signified by the loss of limbs on your Spirit Vessel character) or boost the power of your attacks by holding L. You can also enter a powered up state that increases your attack and defense at the cost of a constantly draining Aura gauge. This state has three levels that each offer a higher power-up at the cost of more Aura per second.
Boosting your attacks while you are in the powered up state is the best way to do damage to bosses, so you'll be collecting enough Aura to power-up by beating up enemies and then the boss. When you first start, you'll have very little tools at your disposal, but what you do have can be selected for use by using the d-pad. As you defeat bosses, you'll gain abilities and weapons from them - several of which will make combat less repetitive.
The combat itself is mainly managed through the use of square and triangle, which perform light and heavy attacks respectively. Mashing on square performs a combo or standard attack, while combining that with presses of triangle can result in more varied combos and attacks. You can even switch weapons mid-combo to access even more combos/attacks. Despite this, the combat is still fairly repetitive - with the focus being on learning the bosses attack patterns instead of attacking with variety and style.
In the end though, the basic pattern does boil down to "kill enemies for Aura -> go Super Saiyan on the boss -> repeat". The bosses themselves are varied and get stronger as you defeat other bosses. So the order in which you fight them is something to consider as you progress through the game.

Visually, the game looks great. Native resolution and a water-color-ish cel-shaded art style that just pops on the Vita's screen. Performance-wise, the game runs at 30fps, but often runs lower during boss battles - at a consistent 25 by my estimate. I didn't find too much issues playing it due to said consistency but it's by no means smooth or perfectly stable.

While Malicious Rebirth basically doubles the content of Malicious, the original wasn't exactly lengthy to begin with. You have six bosses to fight at first, five of which give you abilities. Then you have the Rebirth content, which adds an additional six bosses (and five of which give you extra abilities, again). In total, I'd say it'll take you 6-8 hours on normal if you're any good at action games.

Is it worth $15? Hard to say. I found that it was, but I would advise that you seek out some videos of this or the PS3 version to see if the gameplay looks like your cup of tea.

Thanks for the impressions. Awesome avatar + name btw. The Zero series is one of my favorites of all time.

Ys: The Oath in Felghana is not only the best Ys game, it's one of the best games ever.

Get ittttt.

Thanks! I'll probably end up picking it up this week.

Guys, Motorstrom RC is free on EU PSN but shows as a Free Trial and Demo to me. I thought we were going to get the whole game =/

Talking about the online webstore here.

Seems like EU bros get ignored on here when it comes to questions, but its there and downloadable for free, I'm sure. I was having issues with the web store not showing discounts on RE3 and RE2 not even appearing at all, so I guess you'll just have to go back and try again sometime.

Ok yesterday i played almost 4 hours with valhalla knights 3 so here my initial impressions:

The bad:
-the dialogues obviously, faces are not animated and there are generic body animations instead dialogues specific ones.
-i loved the akatoki class in vk2 because it used punches and kicks, in vk3 it uses only punches, but i guess it's more logical since its weapons are the knuckles, anyway this is just personal taste.
-the start position in the field heals you really slowly and i still haven't understand its precise position.

The weird:
-in theory when you attack a enemy leader the fight begin and the other enemies appear, instead sometimes he doesn't react or takes more hits before starting the fight, one time i failed a running attack and the enemy leader chased me and started the fight though, maybe the reaction depends on the enemy.

The good:
-story and characters are better than expected
-faces apart graphics are not that bad, i wouldn't complain for an elder scroll with these graphics(but dialogues should be well made! XD )
-all the good points of vk2 remained(lots of customization, loots etc, i have already obtained knuckles with sleep effect XD )
-...with some improvements like taking more than one mission at time(finally!), the possibility to recruit experienced party members(in addition to custom level 1 characters), shortcuts and other little things.
-it's very addicting, it has the "just one more mission" syndrome lol.

Obviously all imo.

I was a little disappointed by the lack of the stealth elements during travels, but now traveling is way faster(and probably no more annoying).
In battle the cross is for normal attacks, triangle for specific actions(defense if you have a shield, heavy trowing punch for the akatoki etc), circle for running, R for locking, dpad and L+ dpad let you use 8 slots for items/skills/magic/commands/taunts.
The more you hit the more the experience, 10hit combos(don't expect "combos" like in fighting games lol) give you a 1.2x experience multiplier, 20hit 1.5x(iirc), 50hit 2x.
Attacking the leader on the back before the fight also gives you a bonus on the experience multiplier for the fight.
The battle system it's pretty basic but fights are fun and already in the first area there's an encounter that almost killed my party(i defeated the leader with the last alive character of the party)
I haven't used naughty stuff so i don't know, you can become friend with certain people filling a heart meter talking with them and giving presents.

For what i played all its big faults are purely aesthetic, the hate is absolutely not justified and 29.99€ is a good price imo.

So Sega released a football game in Japan called Sakatsuku: Pro Soccer Club o Tsukurou! - does anyone know if it comes with an English translation included? Doubtful, I guess.

Corpse party is pretty creepy... Not sure how I feel about character character designs though. Don't judge my avatar, I just tales.

you mean the in-game characters or the cutesense/dialouges? but anyway I think they tried to keep it feel close to the original RPG Maker ones and the manga.

good thing i've got some tolerance for generic anime designs, and the atmosphere/sound direction is so good it makes up for it.

can't wait for that dangan rompa thing to come out.... may be my first physical vita purchase.

Thanks for the impressions. I can't buy it at full price since I'm saving for Tearaway and YS (still hope will launch this year) but I'll get it in a promo.

It's the Japanese equivalent of Football Manager, and given that Sega is already putting that out for the Vita, I doubt there's any English translation or plans to put it out in the west. The only game in the franchise that did come out in English was Let's Make a Soccer Team! for the PS2, and that one was especially made for Europe.

Pascal was the only good character in Graces, so I can only think good things about you :)

Has anyone tried the Destiny of Spirits beta? I did, and though it's decent, it has some issues (hunting spirits doesn't work properly) it's decent. The thing that kills the mood in that game is that there is a lot of spirits to collect, but there isn't a compendium like in Pokemon/Persona to fill. If you fuse them, you lose them. It's a lost chance.

The battle system is like the one in FFVIII. There is bar. When it's filled the monster attack. And every monster has a skill you can use. Simple but decent. Still, I don't find it addictive or anything.

I have heard multiple people say this now. Are the Ys games like FF where they are all their own story or would I need to read a wiki of the other games to understand what is happening in this one?

I don't think so. I played Ys Seven without any prior experience with the series, and I was able to follow along pretty well.

A couple things I saw in preview videos (YouTube) prior, really put me off:

Crappy battle sound effects and the sound of your footsteps doesn't change; whether it be marsh or stone underfoot...am I correct?

Anything on Destiny of spirits on the US PSN store? I havent had any luck seeing it. when will it be up?

Do they have a site. They haven't respond on twitter.

Thanks, I actually bought Let's Make a Soccer Team for £1 a few months ago and haven't played it yet - I saw a board on another forum for it though, and it has literally thousands of posts and a real following, so it must do something right.

This new game looks like a cross between that and Virtua Striker from the screenshots, I was hoping it may have an English option then I could import it, but at least FM 2014 is out soon.

local store has second hand Soccer Tsuku and Power Pro Kun 13 at a stupid low price.

perhaps i should invest! *coughplusanewlightslimvitabecauseyouknow*

It's a Thursday; there's not going to be any update to the store today, unless there's something going on of which I'm not aware.

I can't imagine they'd forget it or delay. I figure setting up the beta code/s for more people in NA takes a while. Plus they would want to avoid the codes running out like with the Soul Sacrifice spells they released a while back.

maybe 12pm EST I want a beta code! :(

Edit: Its one beta code that has 10,000 uses.

Well, crap. I bought Carnage Heart EXA when it showed up on EU PSN but it doesn't appear in the content manager copy menu, I guess it's not Vita compatible? Probably should've been reading the store description more closely... Can't check that now because I'm copying some other PS+ games to the Vita ATM so both systems are blocked.

I think they're generally rather unreliable, I know I had to set aiming to toggle in Killzone because sometimes it didn't register the button holding properly. Seems like it's a bit sensitive to where exactly you push on those big triggers.
