I think his team now is very small and therefore probably not that expensive to maintain. There was an interview he did leading up the SS2 remaster now and even there he basically said that they have not much pressure to complete the game and can basically "when it's done" it. Pretty wild.

You could also simply stick to your preferences and be less fickle when others claim things that are important to you, and not care so much about other people's opinions. Then purple could still be your favorite color.
Sadly, it looks like the gunplay is still... "Shoot this one enemy (sometimes two) who's standing 18 - 26 feet in front of you for the duration of the game."
The writing and "narrative legos" concept need to be out of this world to make that gunplay palatable imo.
