Anyone with a good natured, 4-5 IV Haunter? Will give you my first born child in return.
I'm assuming it's like Arceus and his plates where those moves don't work.
Mega Stones can't be removed by any means in battle, so yes.
Thanks a bunch!Sure, you can both have one. And I do have one with Sap Sipper, this guy.
My FC is 2836-0194-8979
Gah! I wish I had thought of this.
When I was breeding Carbink I had an "invincible wall" strategy in mind, where I spam double team, substitutes, and toxic. I had him bred with max def, SpD, and a def boosting nature + a negative speed boost nature.
On top of that I gave him leftovers. The idea was that he just walls the living crap out of everything he fights.
Actually, that said, I have a different strategy in mind now using trick room...

Yeah, the problem is trusting a trade partner.Start breeding bro
my first shiny ever and it had to be this little shit
I just looked this theory up now by seeing the video made by Marriland. I had heard about the strange souvenir and the backpacker but with the backstory, the berry issue and the lack of new Pokemon, it makes sense.
You can heartscale HMs away, can't you? Or no?
So about this guy:

Some surprising potential.
Carbink [Sturdy Hidden Ability] @ Light Clay
EV spread: 252 HP (base 50) / 132 Defense (base 150) / 126 Sp. Defense (base 150)
Nature: Impish (+ Def, - Sp. Attack)
- Stealth Rock
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Explosion
A suicide lead: Set up rocks, set up Reflect and Light Screen (each lasting eight turns due to Light Clay), then go out with a bang as soon as the situation looks grim. Putting 132 EVs into base 150 Defense and 126 EVs into base 150 Sp. Defense should result in around 400+ Defense on an Impish Carbink (+ Def, - Sp. Attack) and mid-300s Sp. Defense. Health tops out at 304 with perfect IV and full 252 EV investment. Reflect and Light Screen would increase your longevity further.
Thoughts?

I bred some modest dugtrios with hp ice for some dude on smogon a while back. When pokebank opens if you still need a parent with those ivs I can hook you up.Getting specific hidden powers are probably the worst. You need some stats to have certain values which is just.. eugh. For hidden power Ice I need the following:
This is never gonna happen, especially since it's so easy to get 31 in 5 stats
Wow, I didn't even think of Carbink's Trick Room potential with Sturdy. That has the potential to be just as good!It can learn trick room?
EDIT: Hidden ability sturdy? Trick Room sturdy build here I come!
Thank you for the kind offer. I actually managed to breed an almost perfect Rotom with HP Ice (only flaw was HP at around 10).I bred some modest dugtrios with hp ice for some dude on smogon a while back. When pokebank opens if you still need a parent with those ivs I can hook you up.
Regarding Explosion on Carbink -- it's true it's been nerfed and it's true it doesn't hit Ghost, but I see it more as a free switch that in most cases will deal damage. The point is to avoid switching into another Pokémon only for them to get a free hit. So in other words, you set up Reflect, it lasts for eight turns (thanks to Light Clay), on the next turn you use Explosion, so seven turns remain for Reflect, then you can send out your sweeper Pokémon. I think this might be preferable to setting up Reflect, using Moonblast over and over, and by the time you die, your sweeper only gets to take advantage of Reflect for a few turns.
So I just got the message from Lysandre, where am I supposed to go now? Serena said to go where we first met him in Lumiose City, but I can't remember where that was...about him killing everyone who isn't Team Flare
Thanks.I like it. I feel like very strategy proposed gets a response of "oh, well it can be beat by x and y. ". But I mean, of course, it is pokemon. Every strategy is going to also have a weakness. It is more of picking something you find fun and just try it out!
I am doing a similar build with Ferrothorn. I think "annoyers" like that will be a lot of fun to play.Thanks.I think this Carbink strategy is extremely sound. If you think someone is going to use Taunt, use Reflect or Light Screen, then switch out. If you think you can survive a couple hits, or think they're going to set up, use Stealth Rock. If you manage to set up Stealth Rocks and/or your screen of choice, use Explosion so you can send out your sweeper at the start of next turn, no damage taken, and take full advantage of the remaining seven turns where the screen(s) is up. It sounds like a lot of fun, IMO, and Sturdy prevents OHKO, ensuring you -at least- get a screen up. Of course, you can also exploit this to ensure Trick Room is set up, as well.

Like you said -- there are always risks. That's why we can switch.I am doing a similar build with Ferrothorn. I think "annoyers" like that will be a lot of fun to play.
But again, if someone throws out a fire mon then I will be screwed, so I'll need to try and mitigate those risks.
But you can't use the screens after the taunt, and most taunters would be faster, wouldn't they? Thanks.I think this Carbink strategy is extremely sound. Oh, that's right, Taunt makes you use Explosion, correct? I guess the gamble would be on the opponent not leading with a Taunter. I guess that is the Achille's heel. :-\But you can't use the screens after the taunt, and most taunters would be faster, wouldn't they?
Hmm, can someone run calculations to see what would OHKO Carbink at max HP and max Defense? Or maybe try my EV spread: 252 HP (base 50) / 132 Defense (base 150) / 126 Sp. Defense (base 150)Quick note regarding sturdy on Carbink:
Sturdy likely won't be of any use whatsoever as Carbink's defenses are ridiculous. It will never endure an attack that takes it from max HP to 0. Sturdy only activates in the event that the pokemon withstands an attack that would normally K.O it from full HP, and in the case of one hit K.O. moves.
I actually remember testing this earlier withThe Elite Four's Nosepass.
Every time I tried to sweep it, I wouldn't be able to kill it because of sturdy and then the CPU would use a full restore.
On the other hand, if you hit it once, and then finish it off with a second attack, it goes down.
So Carbink + Sturdy probably won't be that useful. It'd likely be better to use clear body. It'd get rarely used, but less so than Sturdy.
Regarding Taunt vs. Carbink, aside from the fact most teams don't sport Taunt in my experience, I'd add that if you lead with someone who will paralyze most of the enemy team (like that incredibly annoying Klefki I raised), you could find yourself moving faster with Carbink, anyways. Only Ground-types immune to Thunder Wave, Prankster Taunters and people with status-healing Hold Items/Abilities would prove difficult.
Carbink would definitely work in practice. No Pokémon is safe on paper, but in an actual battle it could work wonderfully. There's also the possibility the other team would have to switch to their Taunt user, by which time the screens are already up.
Just keep using/giving your own O-powers, they will level up.Feel terrible when people send me awesome O powers and I still have all terrible level 1 stuff.. Idk how to get the good ones, but I'm too busy breeding perfect shuckles to find out.

Under every other circumstance, though, it could be amazing.

Basically, I wonder if his defenses, while sky-high, would prevent OHKOs even with his lower HP. Then again, his HP tops out 300+ with full EV investment, so maybe it's not so low after all. In which case, yeah, you'd be right -- Clear Body would work better.
And that would certainly be convenient, if that's the case, because Carbink is genderless and I don't think Hidden Abilities can be passed down by genderless Pokémon in breeding.

Hmm, would have to switch to something that would absorb that then, kill Scizor and use Carbink later. Good to know he'd be fine going up against any other lead Pokémon, though. The thing with Pokémon is nobody could come up with a single team that wouldn't have some glaring mismatch right out of the gate. No team is completely safe, which is why the huge benefits to potentially reap from Carbink make him as worth a look as any. The tricky part is just figuring out how to find a good specimen -- whether giving up Sturdy to breed high-IV Clear Bodies would be fine. Hmm.Bullet Punch from Scizor almost certainly
