New Xbox One Rumors: PS4 PSN > XBL, snap crashes games, ES RAM life long bottleneck

Holy crap. A few weeks before launch and the company only has a representation of the UI? Does this happen frequently in big electronics launches?

He's not saying they don't have anything but that representation. He's saying they can't show anything because of "licensing issues".

Yeah, yeah, it's BS, but they obviously have some stuff working internally. Not to the point where a video with a cohesive experience can be released, of course.

They're giving the good Juniors a pretty bad rap, hope they know.

But yeah I've noticed that too. Telling.

So not wanting to believe rumors with no real proof is giving junior members a bad rap?

No, he's saying that stuff like TV shows can't be demoed without persmission. My answer to that is show something you do own. Like the Halo TV show they made last year.

But then they'd have to show their OS.

What's not to understand about that Albert post? They got permission to use the Arrow and Pacific Rim footage. If they're really going to do a legit OS demo. They'd have to show live TV. If we can't upload stuff from TV to the internet due to copyright, Microsoft can't either.

Wow, really? I have a beautiful island on Mars to sell you.

Dude, I normally bristle at the way Penello gets kicked around here, but that answer is laughable.

If the answer is "this was the real UI, we just trimmed out the parts that show the bits still under construction," say that.

If the answer is "there are the sort of small, annoying bugs visible in the current build that are on schedule to be addressed leading up to the launch," say that.

If the answer is "press release materials are further from the actual development environment than you assume, so there's a big delay from what we're working with now," say that.

If the answer is "We've got some newly introduced issues with the way the different elements interact in our test environment," just say nothing and don't bullshit us.

To be honest, those answers would require a lot of licensing and logistics. Alberts answer was a good representation of Microsofts policies.

Why is everyone so concerned that I tabulate the score correctly in this console war? I know there is relatively more shit flooding from one corridor, I'm just saying in general there has been a lot of negative shit coming from everywhere. I'm not saying it's equal proportions or making any claim on that score, 'cause honestly I don't care who is winning on that score. We're all losing anyway :P
Because you've done a good job of keeping things accurate prior to this and this forum already has more than enough false equivalence to go around. It's a small nitpick, I agree.

If the OS is really having all of these problems, do you want them to stop development just to make a video to satisfy the likes of us?

I'd rather they be cranking on the problems.

Isn't Penello in marketing? What in the world can he do to solve the internal issues? His job would be to manage it from the outside, and that can't happen with leakers and cooked videos. He either says nothing, which adds fuel to the fire, or says something absolutely absurd to justify things, which he just did.

The current state of PSN or XBL on next gen consoles is does not concern me much.

It's the state at launch that matters.

A lot of things always come together at the last minute.
Or they could just end up disabling some features at launch and patching them in later.

They still have 3 weeks to go though. They'll be crunching until teh last minute. I would not expect to see much in terms of live UI demos until then.

Gotcha... Thank you! But still... you have to admit... spinning out the F1 car like that which such precision and smoothness is quite a feat to pull off. I would love to be able to drive like that.

For sure, he makes the mistake, realises how to get out of the situation, spins the car on a dime and carries on as if nothing happened in in one fluid movement, it's a bit special :)

Sorry, getting OT!

XB1'S eSRAM is used differently that WiiU's eDRAM
For example, WiiU's eDRAM is one block of 32MB sitting in the GPU but accessible by the CPU.

eSRAM is broken down into 4 blocks of 8MB. And I believe the CPU doesn't really have access to it.

Cool thx.

Kinda news to me though, I thought the architectures were similar on setup. Looks like Xbox One and Wii U are more different than i thought.

Will be interesting to see how... "well" Microsofts launch will go... I hope they got their cooling system working correctly this time... My 360 RRODing on me was terrible. And it was a 2007 model... 2 Years after launch...

They didn't have any problem showing it at the reveal event.

Why hasn't Sony released a walkthough of their UI?

It's a good question, but at least we have seen people messing around with the UI before and not just going into Ryse on that one leaked vid from Sept.

Sony really needs to show their UI in a professional walkthrough though.

they can record it with a VCR and send it in to center to blur out the live tv and adds ala cops.

Looking at what Bish said before in the other thread, this news may not be the ass storm at all.

"Shit is having issues a little before launch" isn't something that'd set the world on fire. Bish doesn't spout hyperbole for the hell of it. I'm pretty certain the ass storm material will be far worse.

They don't even need a TV show, just show a trailer of one of their games (and don't pretend you're playing it). It's a really bad excuse.

Ever since Mr. Penello tried to peddle those RAM specs over here I'ved tuned the guy out.

He became a complete joke in my eyes the minute he peddled the "we CREATED DirectX!" line. What an idiotic comment. First off, Microsoft BOUGHT DirectX. Second, DirectX isn't even that good compared to the graphics APIs you find on consoles, as it's high level.

I guess licensing wasn't an issue when they published screens like this?

That's what I've been wondering about. I mean, it seems like there's nothing too fancy about licensing media like that, especially for short snippets of time. Or at least nothing too fancy for a massive hardware launch with a hundreds of millions of dollars advertising budget.

Why hasn't Sony released a walkthough of their UI?

Not sure if considered the same, but @yosp did a seemingly live use of the UI, and some French dudes seemed to do a full video of the UI (at a state which I believe the UI wasn't finished/finalized, but they nonetheless showed the UI)

Sure, I understand. I'm not trying to make them 'equivalent' or anything, but I do think over the past few weeks Sony has been starting to get a few dings against them that are annoying me, so I'm just sweeping it all under one frustration rug right now. I'm just a frustrated consumer ...

I kind of need to see this show. Is it available subbed or in English anywhere

I dunno, I watched fansubed release of 1st season. Its fantastic, tokusatsu show for older watchers, violence, nudity, and really really big focus on awesome live action combat [less CGI fights].

"Nothing too fancy?" Its hours of manpower. Silly perhaps? But thats the process.

Its a bad argument/example.

The real issue is that MS has alternative routes for demoing the UI - ie blurring shit out, etc.

Blur out the stuff you can't show. ****. It is NOT that hard.

Their answer to none of the rumors that have been popping up is not putting them in a good position. It is making them look even more worse that they are denying it. Who the fuck is running this sh*tshow?

Then it'll just be one gigantic blur across the entire video.

xbox live gonna be back to the wild wild west of old if they start dropping stuff like party chat. racism and bigotry filled lobbies. whats old is new again woot. but at least they have the new reputation system :D
