Yes, of course I'm joking. However, I do not see this as an addition to DLNA, more like a replacement. One that requires you to update your PC to Win 8 to use.

Actually the PlayTo feature from Win8 uses proper DLNA protocol.
Same on Xbox 360, I can stream from my Nokia to the 360 and my Samsung TV over DLNA too.

Sony is building quite a list of stuff that won't be ready at launch, won't be there at all or require an update day one.

Lucky I have internet in 2013 huh?

It is just another sign that these consoles could have benefited from more time in the oven. A 2014 launch would have been ideal, but that push to be the first out the gate always takes priority.

Here we are 2-3 weeks from launch and we have not seen a detailed walkthrough of either interface. We are just now getting standard information concerning features that should have been discussed well before this time. Not to mention the games are still for the most part hiding behind embargo's.

Man the gaf drama. Bombs dropping every day

It will be like this every day as we stumble closer to launch.

wanting a gaming machine does not exclude wanting the ability to have custom soundtracks and mp3. One, it can impact your game experience. And two, it's something that is usually just expected out of our modern systems. It's ridiculous this is even a question.
thank you...for the love of god thank you!

You were one of the few posters that actually saw through my frustration in my rage thread about these issues. The fact that Shu isn't saying "not at launch" is the big deal. It's annoying these things aren't available at launch, its unacceptable that they aren't part of the system's DNA.

but hey, thank you for at least understanding where I was coming from. I forget people are way more analytical when your write something versus when you're just talking. People focusing on me using a slang term instead of my point, but this is Gaf, it's never important until something rubs you the wrong way lol...My actual tone in person was a lot more annoying than just "raging" but I can see how it came across like that...

Hopefully, this is sorted out. Just a stupid really stupid way for Sony to drop the ball when they are knocking everything out the park.

OMG, Shu cracks me up.

This guy gets it.

I think both consoles were meant to launch this time next year. But the nose diving sales of current gen sped things up.

They could have just dropped the prices more significantly to compensate, rather than rush out unfinished consoles.

i never did streaming and only ripped a few mp3s from a cdr once on ps3, i think for a soundtrack to SSX.

i'm quite okay with this, and i'm okay with everyone else having to deal with this, however I would enjoy a free spotify app and other streaming music options sans physical and home network.

Isn't that why we have game soundtracks to be immersed in the sounds of the game?

Looks like Sony is going the Microsoft direction and putting all kinds of things behind the paid wall now.
What have you read what's behind the pay wall? Yes they should have dnla and soundtracks but they don't have much behind a paywall compared to MS. I do think this will be corrected and that this whole thing is completely overblown as usual.

I don't care about custom soundtracks really, no mp3 playback?? what, why?

Going from Major Nelson's track record we are going to be waiting a while.

Still waiting on that UI walkthrough with Albert that was supposed to be coming in a few weeks. Still waiting on the blog post comparing the difference between Xbox One and PS4 hardware. This was all back on 9/8

PlayTo is DLNA ;) Not an replacement. And do you really find it strange that you need to update your OS to use a new OS feature?
We can deduce from the PlayTo support on the Xbox One that it will support barebones DLNA. But until Major Nelson or someone else from MS confirms that, I wouldn't take that as truthfact.

The stuff that won't be there day one is disappointing but not the end of the world, the stuff that is not there at all is bad but does not diminish the fact it is the most capable gaming machine of this generation of home consoles.

What I don't see as a big deal nor understand being made one is a day one update.

Hopefully media streaming comes back, not so worried about MP3 personally but it would be nice for those that want it.

Other than that, the best version of BF4 on console and KZSF are calling, I certainly won't be cancelling my preorder ..... it's still day one for me.

I know that many people are bothered by this news, but I am not one of them.

I used my PS3 for three things exclusively since I got it in 2009. Playing games, watching blu-rays/DVDs, and watching Netflix/Hulu. I've never once had an MP3 on the HDD, I've never once used a media server.

It will be the same for me with the PlayStation 4.

Next, the complaints about available RAM to developers comes round again and everyone is bashing Sony for wasting space with silly music players instead of freeing system resources for games. They had all this stuff before. Leave them alone to get on with it!

No DLNA? I just assumed it would support that. If there is not a quick reversal I'm cancelling my pre order. I heavily use that feature on the PS3. In fact it is easily half my usage if not more.

They haven't said yet. External storage can't be used for game data.

FAQ implies this....Update from the USB device only after the PS4 boots in safe mode. so in normal mode the usb device isn't recognizes, else it would be able to detect the update file on USB drive. further implication the usage USB ports are allowed only for charging or certified devices. i might have intrepreted the implications wrong though

There are also people complaining about the lack of DLNA too. People are complaining about media functionality not being there.

Oh I totally agree, I just find it amusing given the general outcry at the competitions media focus over games. Now here we are, with a basic media function missing on the gaming oriented machine, and people are pissed.

It strikes me as odd, a strange omission, rather than something that impacts me personally.

I agree. I posted the same in the FAQ thread. It's pretty amusing to me.

Haven't bought a used game in years... drm still rubbed me the wrong way. Regression like this really isn't acceptable when you're paying good money, it's a slippery slope of putting EVERYTHING behind a paywall.

And I was worrying about playing mkvs. This is such a crazy back step.

My same thought at first. This really sucks. I hardly used the MP3s on the PS3 because most games simply didn't support the feature. The only game I regularly used it on was NFS: Hot Pursuit. That soundtrack was just awful. I was really looking forward to finally being able to listen to The Beatles in a GTA game(that wasn't on PC or mobile). This sucks.

the point of the peeps is that while the news is disappointing, it's nowhere near a dealbreaker for them (and for most people). your thread was an overreaction.

the point of sony is that it will potentially make music unlimited a rival to spotify. they are making a business decision, and while it may suck for a lot of people, sony figures no one is gonna lose sleep over it.

But... DLNA is not a new feature. If you can only stream to the Xbone from Win 8.1, that is ridiculous. Furthermore, since I won't allow any Windows systems on my home network, it makes it useless for me.

I really hope Sony fixes this, but until then, my PS3 is going nowhere.

Because a lot of people hate and do not have windows 8 and believe it an inferior product to windows 7.

Ah I see. Seems more like a complaint against Windows than the XB1 though. Unless I missed somewhere that the XB1 cannot be streamed to from any other platform.

Windows 8.1 is pretty nice btw.

If you play the same game or mode over and over the soundtrack eventually gets old some people switch it out then with music they like either that or they just hate the game soundtrack news at 11.

vogelkacke, thanks for making sure this BS was not buried in the general PS4 FAQ thread.

Hopefully the ire this is causing will result in a better product for everyone.

A console of my dreams,
being able to Share Content in the form of Pics and Vids, aswell as Streaming :)

Only to here,
"Limiting" me from playing music Mp3s, let alone Cds themselves. To push for "Unlimited" Music?

Kill zone bundle is Xmas Eve in Australia so I'm as Day One as I can be. I don't care about the music stuff. But then I didn't care about the Xbox DRM either. I have internet and I don't borrow or lend games. I have the Day One edition of the Bone almost paid off too.

I consider myself a less "traditional" console gamer. I'm open to anything if it's executed properly.

It's still a shitty, money driven, anti-consumer decision that was made to convince gamers to pay an extra $40 a year on top of their $50 ps+ subscriptions to listen to their music.

Another reason for me to stick to PC I guess. No custom soundtracks in racing games? F that.. I dont want to listen to the same 10 tracks every time I race.

I'm still getting a ps4, but PC definitely wins out this gen for now.

This. MP3 support is so basic and such an easy box to check. It's not like mp3 support and a gaming centric system are mutually exclusive.

Don't know what Sony is thinking. I don't believe this decision will push people towards Music Unlimited, it'll only serve to push people away from the console.

They already slipped in mandatory ps plus sub with little backlash. Trying to push music unlimited in this way is greedy.

yeah I Feel ya...shitty move though...I mean is Music unlimited free for PS+ guys? an extra $5 added to it? Where's the consumer benefit here? I don't care about buying into an ecosystem, but you have to at least present the value first.

Right now, my music collection can't be transferred over to my PS4 along with my photos and videos? That's a pretty big deal to me. May not be majority, but still a lot of people I think, and that's what the new Sony is supposed to be about.

But I'll just have to wait on it as you said...

sorry for anyone who was offended by my thread...

So, does this mean I can't put ANY music on my PS4 at all unless I use their subscription service which works how exactly?

Like Spotify.

The only edge I would give to unlimited is that they will be(have) started offering game music and different anime OST. Just hope it makes it to the west with PS4.

Considering how heavily Microsoft marketed the Xbox One as an all in one media center don't you find it somewhat odd that this has not already been clarified? Here we are three weeks out from launch and we still do not know.

hmm, didn't the PS3 actually accell it's sale this summer? Mostly due to TLOU.
