Yes, of course I'm joking. However, I do not see this as an addition to DLNA, more like a replacement. One that requires you to update your PC to Win 8 to use.
Have to laugh at the irony in this.
Consumer - We want a gaming machine, not that other media box thing.
Sony - Ok, here you go.
Consumer - What the fuck Sony, why is it not a media center?
Sony - *scratches head*
Sony is building quite a list of stuff that won't be ready at launch, won't be there at all or require an update day one.
Lucky I have internet in 2013 huh?
Man the gaf drama. Bombs dropping every day
thank you...for the love of god thank you!wanting a gaming machine does not exclude wanting the ability to have custom soundtracks and mp3. One, it can impact your game experience. And two, it's something that is usually just expected out of our modern systems. It's ridiculous this is even a question.
You really didn't.
It is just another sign that these consoles could have benefited from more time in the oven. A 2014 launch would have been ideal, but that push to be the first out the gate always takes priority.
Here we are 2-3 weeks from launch and we have not seen a detailed walkthrough of either interface. We are just now getting standard information concerning features that should have been discussed well before this time. Not to mention the games are still for the most part hiding behind embargo's.
Isn't that why we have game soundtracks to be immersed in the sounds of the game?wanting a gaming machine does not exclude wanting the ability to have custom soundtracks and mp3. What have you read what's behind the pay wall? Yes they should have dnla and soundtracks but they don't have much behind a paywall compared to MS. I do think this will be corrected and that this whole thing is completely overblown as usual.Looks like Sony is going the Microsoft direction and putting all kinds of things behind the paid wall now.

PlayTo is DLNAGoing from Major Nelson's track record we are going to be waiting a while.
Still waiting on that UI walkthrough with Albert that was supposed to be coming in a few weeks. Still waiting on the blog post comparing the difference between Xbox One and PS4 hardware. This was all back on 9/8

So, does this mean I can't put ANY music on my PS4 at all unless I use their subscription service which works how exactly?
They haven't said yet. External storage can't be used for game data.

Oh I totally agree, I just find it amusing given the general outcry at the competitions media focus over games. Now here we are, with a basic media function missing on the gaming oriented machine, and people are pissed.
It strikes me as odd, a strange omission, rather than something that impacts me personally.
I know that many people are bothered by this news, but I am not one of them.
I used my PS3 for three things exclusively since I got it in 2009. Playing games, watching blu-rays/DVDs, and watching Netflix/Hulu. I've never once had an MP3 on the HDD, I've never once used a media server.
It will be the same for me with the PlayStation 4.
And I was worrying about playing mkvs. This is such a crazy back step.
thank you...for the love of god thank you!
You were one of the few posters that actually saw through my frustration in my rage thread about these issues. The fact that Shu isn't saying "not at launch" is the big deal. It's annoying these things aren't available at launch, its unacceptable that they aren't part of the system's DNA.
but hey, thank you for at least understanding where I was coming from. I forget people are way more analytical when your write something versus when you're just talking. People focusing on me using a slang term instead of my point, but this is Gaf, it's never important until something rubs you the wrong way lol...My actual tone in person was a lot more annoying than just "raging" but I can see how it came across like that...
Hopefully, this is sorted out. Just a stupid really stupid way for Sony to drop the ball when they are knocking everything out the park.
But... DLNA is not a new feature. If you can only stream to the Xbone from Win 8.1, that is ridiculous. Furthermore, since I won't allow any Windows systems on my home network, it makes it useless for me.PlayTo is DLNANot an replacement. And do you really find it strange that you need to update your OS to use a new OS feature?
We can deduce from the PlayTo support on the Xbox One that it will support barebones DLNA. But until Major Nelson or someone else from MS confirms that, I wouldn't take that as truthfact.
Because a lot of people hate and do not have windows 8 and believe it an inferior product to windows 7.
Isn't that why we have game soundtracks to be immersed in the sounds of the game?
People are really cancelling their pre-order because of no mp3 or dlna support? Now I've seen it all.
The stuff that won't be there day one is disappointing but not the end of the world, the stuff that is not there at all is bad but does not diminish the fact it is the most capable gaming machine of this generation of home consoles.
What I don't see as a big deal nor understand being made one is a day one update.
Hopefully media streaming comes back, not so worried about MP3 personally but it would be nice for those that want it.
Other than that, the best version of BF4 on console and KZSF are calling, I certainly won't be cancelling my preorder ..... it's still day one for me.
It's still a shitty, money driven, anti-consumer decision that was made to convince gamers to pay an extra $40 a year on top of their $50 ps+ subscriptions to listen to their music.the point of the peeps is that while the news is disappointing, it's nowhere near a dealbreaker for them (and for most people). your thread was an overreaction.
the point of sony is that it will potentially make music unlimited a rival to spotify. they are making a business decision, and while it may suck for a lot of people, sony figures no one is gonna lose sleep over it.
DLNA is not a new feature, but PlayTO that uses DLNA is. Don't forget in the end it is a business, not a charity.But... DLNA is not a new feature. If you can only stream to the Xbone from Win 8.1, that is ridiculous.
You got to admire him, Shu's got some balls alright.

Another reason for me to stick to PC I guess. No custom soundtracks in racing games? F that.. I dont want to listen to the same 10 tracks every time I race.

yeah I Feel ya...shitty move though...I mean is Music unlimited free for PS+ guys? an extra $5 added to it? Where's the consumer benefit here? I don't care about buying into an ecosystem, but you have to at least present the value first.the point of the peeps is that while the news is disappointing, it's nowhere near a dealbreaker for them (and for most people). your thread was an overreaction.

I think both consoles were meant to launch this time next year. But the nose diving sales of current gen sped things up.
They could have just dropped the prices more significantly to compensate, rather than rush out unfinished consoles.
