Killzone Shadow Fall - Ultra High Bitrate MP Footage

It's pretty disingenuous to pretend you expected a friend to find Mila Kunis for a date, but "only" got Jennifer Lawrence instead, when a few posts back you had a "fine" date with Kim Kardashian.

What.

I dunno man. I think COD looks fine for what it is- a cross gen game.

I just expected more hear, and judging by some (a minority, its true) of the posts here, I'm not the only one.

Theres no reason to keep citing my post if you think it looks how you wanted it to. I'm just one opinion. I realize its MP footage of a launch game. It just doesn't have the effect on me that I was hoping, based on my reaction to a game like 2k14 does.

I will probably still buy it when it goes down in price.

NBA 2K14 was crazy because we've never gotten this level of detail of character models in sports game (I don't boxing games look now a days though)

Something about the animations and slow movement speed had me cracking up laughing. It's like they were wearing full diapers while running underwater or something.

Wow this looks incredible. The multiplayer is so smooth.

I'm so conflicted when it comes to media players, Windows Media Player plays high quality videos like this so perfectly, but I much prefer the controls and usability of Media Player Classic.

I thought Capcpom had done the proofreading for a second. I guess resecured is sort of a word.

Wow this looks really amazing and it's MP footage to boot. The SP should look absolutely stunning.

I remember drooling over Resistance: FoM for the PS3 launch, we've truly come a long way :). Hopefully this is only a small taste of what we will get on the ps4 this gen.

I would like to add that BF4 on PC @ Ultra isn't perfect either.

There are 2 things that really bother me about the graphics in BF4 that noone seems to mention.

1) No tessellation -- why did they not use that?

2) No detailed texturing -- going up close to those high res textures yields a blurred mess.

I'm curious to see if KZ uses displacement mapping and detailed texturing on surfaces. Even Crysis 3 was very whimpy on the displacement mapping. It seems that only Tomb Raider and Metro Last Light uses heavy tessellation in game. But both of those games are SP only which may explain it.

Looks very solid. Definitely one of the better looking launch games. I can only imagine what GG will be able to produce in the years to come.

SP is locked at 30FPS. Which is fine, because that is an experience that will last a lot less than the MP. . .but still. It would be nice.

No. Also, there wasn't even more going on in this match. I think full matches will really show off how hectic is Killzone match can be. I think that 60 FPS is a good upgrade (btw, I don't actually mind 30 FPS).

Yes. I would rather have smooth, consistent frame rate than annoying frame rate hiccups. Already knew it was bad news when they said they were targeting 60fps for multiplayer. Most shooter developers don't know how to emulate MW1's smooth 60fps gameplay. I'm not surprised there are frame rate issues.

I wasn't too impressed with the footage of the game before outside of the initial demo but this looks super awesome fantastic. Love the lighting.

The singleplayer campaign of Killzone: Shadow Fall is rendered in a native 1920x1080p resolution with framerates ranging between 35 and 40 frames per second. The resolution of the textures are 15 times as high as in Killzone 3 and the game is stocked full of gorgeous systems for volumentric lighting and particles. The multiplayer is rendered in the same resolution with 60 frames per second as Guerrilla hope to compete with Call of Duty.

Setting aside the fact that this game looks spectacular, especially as a launch title, I have to ask this:

Why do so many people expect some kind of insane graphical jump over the previous generation from launch titles?

When I see comments like, "I expected more from next gen," is it from primarily people who are young, and have therefore never experience a console life cycle before in their lives? Or is it people that simply don't know how game development evolves over a console life cycle?

We see this kind of thing with pretty much every console, especially since consoles have gone to the 3D era. Year 1 PS1 titles paled in comparison to year 5 or 6 PS1 titles. Hell, year 2 PS1 titles blew launch PS1 titles out of the water. Year 1 PS2 launch titles are laughable in comparison to what came later (ie, MGS3, Shadow of the Colossus, Final Fantasy XII, etc). Resistance: Fall of Man at PS3 launch, to Resistance 3, or Killzone 2, or The Last of Us from later years.

Killzone: Shadowfall is a launch title. It looks spectacular. To take a launch title as a portent to what the console will be capable of in the future seems a little silly. We're already seeing some impressive year 1 titles in The Order 1886, and inFAMOUS: Second Son. I can't even imagine what we'll be seeing year 2, 3, 4, etc, etc.

To expect a gigantic leap at the start of the generation seems a little unrealistic. I never expected to be impressed at the PS4 and Xbox ONE launches. And yet, well, here we are. KZ looks amazing.

And as someone who saw it running in person at E3 this year, it looks absolutely stunning on an HDTV, running on hardware, and that was at E3. The game has undergone a lot of polish since then.

The game's FOV is a bit zommed in, but if you play for long hours it won't make a difference.

Also KZ always had a bit more zoomed gunplay in all the games, the actual graphics tho is jaw dropping.

I don't think it's fair to paint those who aren't blown away as uninformed. Jeff Gersrman works in the industry and had my same reaction. It's super subjective.

Looks really smooth, sharp and clean with lots of nice little details. Very good effort. Might very well be the best looking launch game across all platforms.

I work in the industry as well, doesn't make my opinion or Jeff Gerstman's any better or worse than yours, or anyone else on GAF, or forums anywhere.

Not being impressed is A-Ok, that's your prerogative. But why hold a console launch up to such an absurdly high expectation to begin with?

Maybe it's because I temper my expectations for just about all things (movies, books, tv shows, games, etc), that I don't build up this unattainable level of hype to the point where I can look at something like Killzone: Shadowfall, or Quantum Break, or Titanfall, or Battlefield 4, and shrug, saying, "Meh, I expected more."

We went through this song and dance when the Xbox 360 launched, and had less than impressive launch titles, only to have Gears of War show up a year later and blow us all away with what it was doing.

Personally, I think, as a launch title, Killzone is quite a step up from what we've got before.

Do I mean to lump everyone in that uninformed category? No, not really. I'm not commenting against the opinion of the game looking unimpressive or not. I'm simply commenting on unrealistic expectations for launch titles.

Looks insane, this is a legit graphical leap IMO. That being said, I still canceled my PS4 pre-order today and feel pretty good about it. I'm going wait until Spring at least.

Seems like a fair bit of recoil for a game with no auto aim. I really think the MP in this game will sort the men from the boys.
I was thinking the same. The fact that the reticule is just a HUD overlay and not part of the sight itself makes it seem like there's less recoil.

I dont disagree. My hype was way too high. That said, I'm not using my impressions to color my view on the ps4 going forward- I think wave 2 games will blow my away. Ie infamous.
