Adam Sessler's: On Xbox One and PS4's Resolutiongate, and Day One Patches

Why? Because the media is completely ignoring the WiiU now instead of just making apathetic comments about it?

But seriously, the next 18 days will be like the opening of Saving Private Ryan with the amount of chaos going on. Especially now that the games media is more under the microscope now than they've been for nearly a decade (since last systems launched) and every word that is said by any of them will be torn to shred by both sides.

I was just saying that because top graphics suddenly don't matter. This is their mantra.

Looks overall The gaming press side of things are circling the wagons a bit here. That or the equivalent more of fingers in ears going "LALALALLAL I Cannot hear you ".
Personally the dismissive tone to even the , what I consider, reasonable criticism pointing out the inconsistency/seemingly hypocrisy on this issue , to me is worse then the initial issue itself.

Keep it up fella's , why would you just be engaging in an honest discussion with your user base?

Yeah, I honestly think the reaction to the reaction does more harm than anything else. Am I going to sit here and suggest that I'm proud of every bit of criticism/vitriol that gets directed at the enthusiast press? Of course not. Some of it is obviously regrettable and juvenile, and I can see why there might be some degree of pushback against it. However, there is also plenty of honest feedback that seeks to address these op-ed pieces in good faith. And when the only response is to get on Twitter and offer self-congratulatory "haters gonna hate" nonsense, I feel that speaks very well to informing why the games media has a less-than-stellar reputation.

I'm sure that this problem isn't unique to gaming, but since I'm exposed to so much of games-related Twitter discussion I guess it stands out more. And given what I can see, I feel like games journalism would only benefit from never tweeting anything.

Really, twitter should not be used for any true discussion, it is just not a great format for good nuanced topics and explanations. It is headline news, nothing more.. "click here is you want to know more" (No one ever wants to know more..)

Ohh my.... a friggin' child in an adults body. The Blackmailing of a lead programmer for calling him out on twitter is the definition of a dick move.

I'm not sure why Dent even has a voice, he comes off as a a guy with a pseudo intelligence and will attempt to bully to keep up appearance.

Did anyone post this yet? What's the general consensus on Kuchera?

His thoughts on the Sessler situation.

Followup thought.

Closing ranks, as usual. They all seem to do it when one of their own faces scrutiny.

EDIT: Good fucking lord, Sessler.

Something like this is what I was talking about. Apparently, Adam Sessler is a seasoned veteran of 15 years in this crazy business that's forgotten more than I'll ever know. Given that vast experience, it's hard for me to fathom the thought process that would lead to thinking that posting this tweet was a good idea.

I'm conflicted now. Do I cancel my pre-order of a next gen console or my pre-order for that super gas explosion bomb thing from my chemical weapon armsmaster?

I said this in the locked topic on what Adam Sessler just tweeted:

Adam Sessler Then: "GAMES ON THE NEXT XBOX AND PLAYSTATION BETTER BE 1080P AND 60FPS, ALTHOUGH GAME DESIGN MATTERS MOST."

Adam Sessler Now: "Why are people complaining about resolution? It's not important. Game design is the only thing that matters."

...

what don't people get: you fuck up, you get called out on it. Admit you fucked up, and people start to forgive. Start blaming those who criticized you and insulting them, it only gets worse.

Adam Sessler exposed his hypocritical stance on resolutiongate, people called him on it, and that's part of being employed in the industry and having people actually take you to task for doing your job. Who cares about how high the level of vitriol is, any adult can filter out the garbage. Admit when you fuck up.

These people are completely unhinged.

I agree.
Seriously stupid to post such an inflammatory comment in a moment like this.
Although it's obviously an hyperbolic joke.

my response for the other thread that got closed:

His point is simeltaneously fair and meaningless.

What reason do people who buy chemical weapons have to be upset with the dealers? The purpose/impact of the product in question doesn't matter.

Game players have more reason to be upset (with the provider) than consumers of chemical weapons

Adam has gone insane. Man, I LIKE most of what this guy does! I like his interviews, his opinions on some aspects of the game industry, his livestreams, and game reviews. WHY IS HE DOING THIS?!

The point would be ( i assume) that people who buy chemical weapon are dangerous psychos.
Gamers being worse than that to deal with.

It was funny how he has said neoGAF is the Tea Party of gamers.

This coming from one of the biggest 'hacks' out there and a fantastic example of everything that is wrong in the games industry.

That's one way to piss off your audience I guess.

I miss Rev3 games pre Adam era. Just Antony, Tera, and Max having fun and not take everything too seriously.

He actually is very capable of some thoughtful analysis. I read him occasionally. I'm pretty sure I'm dropping the "occasionally" now though

It just blows my mind that these same people spent an entire console generation decrying the PS3 version of multi-platform games due to things like missing trees or a blurry rock texture, but a 125% difference in rendering resolution is barely worth mentioning. I don't know if they are paid to act like this or just enjoy being contrarians, but it's sad either way.

Is he referring to the less than favourable previews for XB1 titles? It's hard to know wtf set him off.

And as I said in the other thread, after him and several others acting like entitled manchildren, people who live in glass houses shouldnt throw stones.

Is he refering to private messages he's received maybe? It can't be just the general blowback he's gotten on NeoGAF, that would be a truly stupid comparison.

Almost certainly he is referring to the way people jumped on him for pretending resolution doesn't matter when only a little earlier he was saying Xbox and PlayStation next games better be 1080p/60fps. Now suddenly it "doesn't matter", and lots of people called him on that on and off GAF.

I'm guessing that he's referring to the comments and the like/dislike bar for his new interview with Phil Spencer.

He's no doubt reacting to the thumbs bar on his interview with Phil Spencer. He's taking it personally and that's really gonna get him places.

Note: I am not calling for his job with the following sentance.

Being that his employer is Discovery Channel, I don't know how they can let such a comment pass without discipline. Because at this point he is tarnishing not only himself, but Rev3 and Discovery.

Maybe he's referring to all the mire he's gotten himself in this past week. Bad week for Adam

You can't say it isn't deserved. I like Sessler but he is joining in the circus of downplaying an important issue in regards to next gen.

This is not just NeoGAF being dramatic or anti-MS. They've done that to themselves. It might be a necessity for Sessler and journos like him to play unbiased to protect their employment but that isn't a problem for us.

Also shitting on gamers is pretty low hanging fruit. We are a fairly immature demographic, both age and personality wise. Anyone who's ever played a popular online game knows this. That doesn't give you the right, as a journalist, to act the same way though.

These people are completely unhinged...

defending the indefensible will always end up making the individual doing so appear to be completely unhinged... except, of course, to that portion of the audience to which the individual is making the defense that's also completely unhinged :) ...

Looks like Sessler is going the way of Pachter, Kamiya, Phil Fish, etc.

Must be a stressful time considering the launch, holidays, and e-drama

He's just handling everything really poorly. Any industry that has any passion behind it also has passionate fans. And that passion can lead to angry and even really mean comments. The comments he's receiving is nothing specific to the gaming industry, although in recent months we've seen stories written that try to paint this as something unique to gamers, and all he's doing is trying to double down on that mindset.
