Closing ranks, as usual. They all seem to do it when one of their own faces scrutiny.

EDIT: Good fucking lord, Sessler.

I'm... I'm at a loss for words.

The funny thing is that the original story wasn't even that big of a thing. It was just gamers asking Sessler why he had made a U-turn on his previous comments about 1080p, and his justifications in regards to certain platforms. His argument isn't wrong; the games do matter, but this is purely a conversation about the technology and tool support. All people want is a fair analysis with not personal opinion injected into it and they're not getting that. If Sessler has changed his mind then that's fine, but he should understand the nature of a tech analysis, and should remove himself entirely from the debate.

The hostility, sarcasm and refusal to have an open debate about this is what is feeding the fire at the moment and the longer he takes jabs and attention seeks, the longer this will play out and burn his reputation. He would be best either totally ignoring the issue or just confronting it.
Wow. Chinner with a seriously insightful, non-trolling comment? This shit is getting nuts, people.

I'm kinda grossed out by this thread whenever I check in on it, because some people just take things too far. I think Sessler is a fine gaming media member, and frankly, I enjoy most of what he does.

He just occasionally goes in a little too deep, and it seems that all too often he pushes back in defense of Microsoft. It happened at E3, and it's happening again now, as the truth is finally revealed that Microsoft put together a somewhat under powered next gen cosnole. I don't think this makes him a bad person, and no one should treat him like he's a bad person. He's not.

I suspect he's just got a little too much reverence for Microsoft's Xbox team, and thus he feels the need to prop them up a bit when they're being kicked around. At the end of the day it's not a big deal. I still believe his reviews to be fully credible, and I enjoy his general musings on the industry. I just hope he would swallow a tiny bit of pride, announce he's not going to dabble in the console power debate again, and move on.

If Sessler has any true friends, they would change the password on his Twitter account right now. It's one thing to be a stubborn ass when people call you out on contradicting yourself, but when you start comparing these people to subhuman terrorists... It's time to step away for a little while.

Am I crazy or is this pretty normal for tech companies to host events and invite press? I am not seeing the big deal.

It was the only way to get a Ps4 before release apparently, you needed to go there and pick it up after a software run-through. The only big deal about this is the traveling involved, Sessler totally overreacted.

Interesting tweet from PastaPadre today, related?

56O9mIF.jpg

It is a sports related gaming site. The gentlemen who runs the website posts here.

Edit: Yup, seems so.

https://twitter.com/pastapadre

the non-gaming focused entertainment media seems to have been picking up on it and laughing at the gaming media lately, between this and Cinema Blend calling them out

though one of the replies to PastaPadre is utter BS

(I don't know how to make those nice little images of tweets)

These two things are in major conflict. You really can't be a fine member of the gaming press if you are so attached to the people at Xbox that you end up being dishonest about differences between consoles.

I wonder how many other vg journos feel the same way about their audience.

Excuse me, I'm going to drag out my soap box for this.

Let me explain a little about myself. I'm 44 years old and have been playing home video consoles since the original Odyssey in 1974. Thats 40 years. I've bought just about every major piece of video game hardware released in the North American market as well as some sort of gaming pc since the late 80s. I'm not without my favorites. My preferences have me gravitating towards Sega, and Microsoft. Each system they released, I got at or near launch and were my primary gaming platforms.

Also I'm not someone who exist just as a video game consumer. I was an A student, ran after school clubs, went to and graduated college, and have a successful career in I.T. that goes back 25+ years. I've also been married for over 20 years, have four kids and have been active in the community. Your basic well rounded individual.

I find it insulting how my concerns about a $500 product is somehow dismissed as the ravings of a 13 fan boy. When I go shopping for a dryer, or a TV, questions such as "why does this item cost more but does less of what I want" are taken serious. I don't see the writers of consumer reports getting on twitter having a freak out and defending and covering a brand. Also if there are issues with the PS4 launch, SAY SOMETHING. While we are at it, why isn't anyone in the press saying anything about Nintendo?

Watching his interview with phil, it is almost as if Microsoft handed Adam the questions he was to ask. As if there was a script. There were no followups. The message of this video was, ignore the negative information, its not a big deal, we need you to buy this product. It is your duty to buy this product. As if the industry could not exist or move forward without the Xbox One. Has Adam gotten to the point where he wont say anything negative about a major product? So long as we buy stuff, watch his videos, and keep quite apparently that makes him happy?

If Adam Sessler wants to rebrand his youtube stuff as entertainment or infomercial, I'm fine with that. Don't do reviews, don't say what Rev 3 is doing is news. Its an entertainment channel that features a couple of guys and girls talking about video games.

Following up that conversation, I saw this amusing reply from Shawn Drotar, defending Sessler.

"Adjust to changing realities". Coherence and facts be damned.

yep that's the same guy who also claimed in the tweet I linked that the PS3 had a great advantage over the 360 than the PS4 does over the Xbox One which is complete and utter BS

https://twitter.com/SDrotar_EAGC/status/398176868626464768

Whatever, i've had my fill of Twitter drama crap.
Hopefully Sessler will be able to defuse the situation.

he's the one that poured gasoline on the fire

I was trying to find if it was ever confirmed what had Sessler so agitated 10 days ago, and came across this amazing piece of reporting.

Adam Sessler’s Freak Out is Indicative of a Rushed PS4 Launch

I agree with a fair bit of that apart from saying the hardware isn't ready. Software wise they are obviously waaay behind. The whole NDA culture has to change with regards to reporting. If those invited were actual journalists they would have refused to sign and boycott reporting on PS4. Within a week Sony would cave in, so why didn't they do more? Adam would be rightly pissed off, should have made it known, got others to agree to a boycott or rely on fans to push Sony. Instead he had a fit and avoided doing anything, if indeed that is the reason.

However Microsoft are also guilty of this and deserve equal scorn. As it is they all showed a lack of integrity and in Adams case turned a bit mental with wild defensive attitudes to gamers demanding better. Why doesn't neogaf do a factual based website with an independent journalistic based report. I am sure we have a paxman amongst us.

Very good post. This outlines the problem very well.

And then this Cave Online reporter took those tweets as an excuse to make an host of dubious assumptions on how ready Sony is for the PS4 launch.
I don't know whether they are ready or not, but I do not know where this idea came from. Sony are certainly more ready than Microsoft.

Maybe this is all because of Driveclub? Would be ironic as that was a game people were shitting on and doubting a few months ago.

300Mb update is not a reason for people to get their panties in a twist, this is 2013. PS4 can still play games without the update, so play some Killzone, download 300Mb update in background.

Great post! 42 and gamed on nearly every system myself. Just a couple of weeks ago I was defending MS to the end. Can't do it anymore. Just months late getting it through my thick skull that keeping my groovy avatar and 75,000+ Gamerscore was not worth the extra $100 and lesser hardware. Don't get me wrong XB1 will be mine eventually but it seems PS4 has earned my multiplat love and that's where I spend a lot of my gaming money.
As a gamer I think this makes a lot of sense. For those that enjoy Kinect and like the XB1 exclusives then I'm happy for you.
I liked Sessler but this is a joke.

Its great how "what did they say about Xbox DRM" is becoming the standard we judge these people by.

I think its great.

It makes sense. The number of gaming press with egg on their faces after claiming Sony was going to pull the same DRM stuff and still defending MS after Sony didn't has ruined the credibility of a good number of previously credible (or so we thought) members of the industry.

That they're now choosing to perpetuate half truths about easily verifiable technical specifications is just showing most of these people for what they really are - not fit to do anything but host a "lifestyle" show on a no-name basic cable channel.

Yes. But lately lots of people are starting to ask whether it should be normal or not.

They can buy a system at launch, or go pick up their free one. They don't dictate Sony policy, and whining like he did just looks ridiculous.

Worse than chemical weapons. Obama should negotiate with Russia to stop gamers, not the Syrian regime.
