12 minute Xbox One dashboard demo

But you should at least be able to upload the full raw footage to your PC. I understand the restriction for streaming/uploading purposes but there has to be some sort of middle ground. I shouldn't have to upload 3 different 15 minute clips just to have the full one.

I can tell you right now, neither Sony or Microsoft ever meant for that to be the case. It's for highlights, not a platform for full show recording.

Suddenly, calling the system 'balanced' does not seem so funny anymore. It is still powerful enough to qualify as next gen and has a strong line up straight out of the gate. But it also integrates all of these other features right in with the gaming in a seamless, futuristic and very slick interface that sets it a part.

I tell you what, I'm having a hard time seeing how all of this is not attractive. I'm just sorry that it took wading through a giant shit storm in an ocean of diarrhea before it finally hit me. I sincerely hope they take notes from today's messaging for future reference. Spot on stuff and the pieces seem to be falling into place right before launch.

...and I'm still not keeping my One pre-order unless my 360 stick works. Fuck that shit. KI is the only exclusive I really want to have...but I'm not dropping $700 just to play it on day one. I'll wait unless my stick works like they do on the dev kits.

I know what I'm about to tell you is a pain in the butt. However, all you have to do is take apart an Xbox One controller, cut the fight stick wires, and solder them to the controller motherboard. For $60 (or whatever sale price comes up), you could have your fight stick working on the Xbox One, wirelessly (or wired).

You could even get fancy and make it switchable between the Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Yeah, you shouldn't have to do this, but at least it isn't like the wheel situation, where there is no cheap(ish) solution.

I'll never use it to game but with an OS that snappy I'll probably get this for my family in the living room while I game with the PS4 in mine. I doubt it will ever get in the price range I'd like ($299 w/ Kinect).

If MS notices the positive buzz they are getting, and see an uptick in purchase intent, you can very well bet they will continue this messaging.

They'll see the data, they'll see the social metrics, and it will paint a nice picture for their marketing guys.

Ok so I am curious, as far as I know Sony has sent out snippets of the UI here and there but nothing on this kind of level (please link if there is). It is kind of amazing that we are 7 days out from launch of the PS4 in the U.S. and nobody outside of Sony (as far as I know) actually has had a full blown working PS4 to use and experience all the elements of the UI and relay that to the public?

That was really amazing. The UI looks so quick and slick!

I hope Kinect doesn't get in the way, but from what they've shown I was really impressed.

Something about having the system recognize you and your pins just feels nice.

Debating getting this early, or just waiting it out!

I completely don't understand the reaction in this thread, what MS showed today is exactly the same stuff they showed back in May and they got ripped apart back then.

I'm glad someone else who noticed this. I'm buying both systems and I would like to know what I'm buying next Friday.

Probably the most impressive thing to me is that I can just be sitting there playing and say, "Xbox, record that" without having to do a thing. It's little nuggets like that which are finally starting to surface and register for me. If being able to do that is not a next gen experience, then I don't know what is.

Looks really good, except for the friends list being a separate app. Voice command seems very handy for lazy people like me.

I think the friends stuff needs a bit of work. Looks like an app that would work on tablets, not so much on a 50" screen eight foot away.

The way it was presented with two casually dressed guys sitting in a living room setting having fun with it did a lot for me. It was just them there showing off the features and it finally all just gelled for me. I don't know what else to tell you. *shrugs*

Pretty much this. If I were Sony I wouldn't release a similar video. I'd play up the power of the system and show off games like they've been doing because whatever they show will just be completely outclassed. And that's ok, we all knew going in that MS would likely have the better OS. I just don't think we knew it would be this much better.

It's stuff like this that is going to possibly sway people into making the trade off of worse performing games in general for the sake of an awesome UI that really does have a lot of cool features.

Yeah...the NUI is most likely light years ahead of the PS4 XMB in terms of multimedia functionality.....and I am stating this as a Sony fan..

I would go as far to say this is the slickest set top-ish box presentation I have seen to date.....I mean, damn!!!

It just appeals to me....I could easily see me having my DirecTV genie being piped through the Xbone 24/7

I live in Idaho but work in Alaska, and while at work, I skype my wife and kids everyday via my android phone.....my wife also uses her phone but this would be a better/easier way for them to talk to me

I now "get it" microsoft.....you won this round, for sure!

In terms of functionality it might work, seems really responsive but it looks so freaking boring. Same thing with the PS Ui. It's so damn unimaginative. You've got a 1080p screen to fill and all these two console giants can come up with is squares, squares and more squares.

That was really slick. I doubt Sony can match this as they never focused on these features on the PS4. But still need to see the full PS4 UI demo to see how it compares.

Btw, most of the features they showed, only good for US market correct?

You'd prefer bubbles, perhaps?

Flat stuff is the 'in' thing these days.

Nope, most will work anywhere. Even TV features will work, just maybe not as fully (ie. Digital enhanced guide not available everywhere at launch) but voice functions to control input and channels should still work.

It's simplistic and incredibly functional though. It's easy for anyone to understand, even those who aren't tech savvy. Personally I think it looks nice. There's definitely room to improve, absolutely, but for what we're getting this year I'm really impressed.

Let's also not forget that the dashboard they show here is almost definitely not the same dashboard we'll have three years from now. That's one thing that I've liked about MS' approach this current-gen. They updated the 360 all the time, not only in functionality but also how it looks. I couldn't imagine if we were still stick in the blades interface today... I'm excited to see where MS will take this over the course of next-gen.

that was really, really awesome. I'm actually interested in buying an XBOX for the first time.
Sony PS4 can't match these features since Sony sucks writing software. Been a PS user for 15 years and now its time to try new stuff.

jmsony

Slick as fuck. I hope they don't have screwed it all up with dash updates by the time I jump in, the 360 changed the dash so many times, not always for the best.

Looks easy to use and fast. Seems like Kinect is valuable with this sort of thing, but I dunno if it would justify 100 dollars for me personally, for others I could see how it would.

+1

Yes, it really is all starting to "click" isn't it....

So glad I am getting both true next gen systems

I also already own a Wii U

Every time they used Kinect I kept thinking it will fail to recognize what they said.

My experience with Kinect 1 was really bad.

I also did the same. To be honest though, I rarely blame the Kinect directly. For me, the times it fails it seems to be a volume (television) issue or some weird bug. I've always thought if they could write program that culls out the audio from the television, Kinect would suddenly perform great.
I hope that's what they did here. I'm tired of watching television at any discernible volume and my Netflix goes, "oh, he musta said STOP."
As a result, my girlfriend and I play a game where we yell gibberish at the screen when we know it will happen.
I'll miss this game... but not the reason. -Adam

So, I have read 22 pages now, and not one of you had wondered why that guy in the Skype video call put his hand in his jeans so awkwardly at the end when issuing the "Xbox, hang up" voice command?

The UI is definitely cool, but I am really wondering if he had a remote clicker to hang up the call.
