12 minute Xbox One dashboard demo

So, I have read 22 pages now, and not one of you had wondered why that guy in the Skype video call put his hand in his jeans so awkwardly at the end when issuing the "Xbox, hang up" voice command?

The UI is definitely cool, but I am really wondering if he had a remote clicker to hang up the call.

are you serious?!?!?!

Yup, until proven otherwise.

This kills PS4's OS.

I don't think there was ever a question of Microsoft beating Sony on the OS front. What impact this OS has on the design/functionality of the console though is what interests me. I don't do things like Skype and I have like 10 friends on PSN.

Wrong. That was an obvious case of "pocket pool." Detective GAF needs to get on this right away.

I am sincerely asking a question here, not trying to troll. Have a look:

There is definitely something in his pocket which he reaches for just before hanging up, and keeps his hand in the pocket while waving and hanging up.

Edit: What is "pocket pool"? I am not native English :P

Second Edit: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=pocket+pool Yeah, alright :P lol

Yes, the camera tracks all of his movement but can't handle a simple voice command.

A clicker? What?

His hand looks too low to be in a pocket though. Wouldn't most jeans have them closer to the waist?

wow, just wow. You need help.

PS4 HW + Xbone SW = hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng

It's been this way since forever.

I genuinely want Sony and Microsoft to come to an agreement on making a console together.

With Sony behind the hardware in collaboration with MS and MS behind the software in collaboration with Sony.

Would be legitimately magical.

Same here, I'm not sure how many of these features I'd even use.

But I gotta say I'm actually impressed. I have liked what I've seen of PS4's OS so far, as long as it's fast and functional. I won't even care tbh.

Am I the only one who gets annoyed by the phrase "stuff you care about", used dozens of times in this video. I am pretty sure I only heard this phrase in Microsoft PR for the Xbox One. For some reason all this "get back to the stuff you care about", "pinned the stuff I care about", "see the stuff I care about", pisses me off.

It's quite hard to know what to do with your hands when you know you're filmed/observed. Do you remember the Bungie guys at E3 ? :D

Why would he need a clicker when he could just as well have someone offscreen shutdown the connection using a controller ? (same reason I don't think Yusuf Mehdi didn't have one last May, even if the demo was staged).

Man its getting crazy how far people will reach now. Insane.

The dash is super quick for everything but needs a clicker to end a skype call. Now ive officially heard it all.

Begun, the console wars have.

It's mindblowing just how well this works. Shame they didn't show this sooner than today. Still rocks.

Wow, that was incredibly impressive, a great detailed video. That was fast and the flow was so natural, what a great OS. I've never seen anything like this for any entertainment device.

If MS notices the positive buzz they are getting, and see an uptick in purchase intent, you can very well bet they will continue this messaging.

They'll see the data, they'll see the social metrics, and it will paint a nice picture for their marketing guys.

So if they see positivity with this OS they will continue to make similar great OS's? Sounds good. Marketing guys should be happy that they have a nice product to sell.

Yeah. The OS is nice to be sure, but I don't think its worth the hit to system performance.

Not to mention the stories circulating about how XB1's less than optimal RAM setup is pretty much the direct result of needing so much RAM for these OS features.

That I can't say, just from an understanding on how they'll judge messaging and what not, they will measure reactions, and base future messaging on it.

As for the OS, one would hope they learn from what people like about this OS.

Nah, don't remember the Bungie story.

Why would it be a remote? Yeah, good question, that's why I was asking here, too! One solution could be that there is a known bug that causes hanging up via voice to crash or something like that, so they hung up manually? Just some idea.

OR, Maybe, just MAYBE they hung exactly like it was shown.

Why can't people just accept it lol ?

So in The Verge article he says "The new Kinect is seriously impressive and a little creepy" what was so creepy about the Kinect?

Looking at this stuff it really seem this was design before DVR took off and tablets. A lot of the TV doesnt seem like it will work for time shifted tv. Really hope they have a solution to this problem. This snap stuff seem like it wouldnt be that useful with everyone now having smart phones and tablets.

Much rather has app that work like airplay than snap function.

Really seem it was the designed back in 2008 and never updated by the changing times.

Was camera really tracking him though? There might be someone holding the kinect and moving the camera with him

possible, no?

Nope, camera was controlled by software, you could clearly see the zoom and pan by scaling the image.

Edit: LOL that Bungie pic! ^^ Okay, that's definitely not how to display yourself at a presentation :D
