We're discussing the difference between 720p and 1080p (which Polygon claimed to be insignificant).

Blue Castle is not an indie team either and they had the full backing of Microsoft on this project. That wasn't really the point of the comparison, though, we simply don't have many other good quality XB1 captures of 720p games.

The whole game is an unoptimised mess so im not suprised...well probrably get 5 patches before its ironed out and even then you have to deal with shitty netcode thats plauged the game

They should just release a 720p patch for PS4. It's not fair to have these comparisons, allowing matching framebuffers makes for a fair comparison (and XB1 will lose).

I agree with this. In this isolated instance it might be a win for the Xbone, but ultimately this is a lazy technically inept game and we en masse should reject it so Activision understands they have to do better than this. It barely looks from the same console generation as BF4 and KZ:SF.

They are both 720p no AA.

There s only 2 options here, IW lied or some journalists misconfigured the output display on the PS4.
Some parts of the ign comparison are in 1080i, the whole video doesn't make any sense, the resolution keep changing (and not dynamically)

When comparing the PS4 and Xbox One versions side-by-side, there’s little to no variation in textures and effects, but there is a discernible difference in resolution. While both are displayed at 1080p, the Xbox One version upscales the game from 720p resolution. In contrast, the PS4 version runs natively at 1080p, which makes character models, weapons, and environments look noticeably sharper and more detailed. The difference is especially apparent on larger-sized TVs, where pixel density weighs more heavily in picture quality.

Much has already been made of the shortcomings of the Xbox One version of Ghosts, and so it will probably come as no surprise to hear that the Xbone version is lacking in the visual department. It's not just resolution that has suffered, however, although that in itself is fairly disappointing.

Multiplayer also looks demonstrably worse than in the PS4 version, with similar problems afflicting the look of the game. Mechanically it is identical, and at least the game ran stable enough to keep me blaming myself and not the frame rate for any kills I may have suffered. Haha............. that works if youre buying both systems. Most people are only buying one (or zero) next gen systems. People purchasing the ps4 are doing it for exclusives, and more brute power from the console itself......... this information seemingly goes against what we've learned and seen so far in ps4/xb1 games......... that is why there are already 15+ pages of this thread.

Ignoring the PS4 and XB1 argument I really can't approve of a site which belittles the difference between 720p and 1080p (or, more accurately, supports upscaling). Most TVs today are native 1080p and hitting that resolution is important for image quality. Reviews such as this suggesting that upscaling is somehow acceptable run the risk of convincing developers that sub-native resolutions aren't a huge deal.

Talking about PS4 and XB1, however, there is a clear difference in capabilities as a result of some poor engineering decisions on Microsoft's part. The hardware is less capable, that much is a fact at this point. Pointing and laughing is foolish and childish, however, and only serves to turn fans of the target against the competing product. It's not a good thing.

Probably because they're planning on releasing a patch later to address the framerate issues. Every version of the game seems to be un-optimized and it's getting clearer everyday that Activision and EA rushed the release of both of their big holiday games in an attempt to nullify the other.

However........ It seems like some folks on GAF think that 1080p is some holy grail where all aliasing disappears. It's just not the case. In the whole scheme of things, 1920x1080 sitll isn't that high of a resolution. Weve been using displays at 2560x1600 for years now. That being said, I am excited to play the heck out of the PS4 friday and enjoy the games because of how much fun they look to be.

It's a "holy grail" only because TVs are native 1080p, not because aliasing disappears there. It's finally that 1 pixel in the game is 1 pixel on the TV. Particularly important when the content is rendered in that resolution, and not (like in case with films) created at a far higher resolution and then downsampled to TV res.

Can someone enlighten me as to what the big deal is here? My current understanding is that, the Xbox One version has a steady frametrate, but is 720p. And the PS4 version is 1080p, but has framedrops. Polygon thinks that Framerate is more important than resolution, so they give the Xbox One version a 7/10 and the PS4 version a 6.5/10.

Is there something I'm missing here? Because this alone doesn't seem all that controversial to me

Alright I'll bite. The issues isn't valuing framerate. The issues clearly being discussed in this thread is the lack of consistency. Why do x360,PS3, and PS4 all share the same score when they each perform different in both resolution and framerates. Why is only the Xbox One version given a score bump for what IGN calls 'minor hiccups' in the PS4's SP framerate?

Why does Battlefield 4, which has superior resolution and framerate (significantly less drops) get the same score on Polygon? What is the standard? Why does their scoring criteria fluctuate so dramatically when it benefits the new MS console?

i agree...devs should try to get the best from the hw...and this gen should be a 1080p or nothing...at least if u ask to me...

Jeff in his article said Infinity Ward is going to patch the PS4 ver to help the framerate problem.

The early reviews of Call of Duty: Ghosts--including mine--mentioned that the PlayStation 4 version of the game suffers from occasional frame rate issues. For me, it usually showed up whenever there were a lot of particle effects on screen, but it'd pop up at random, too. I'm told that Infinity Ward is working on a patch to correct the performance issues.
