Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

I'm not sure if there is a Wii U OT so I'll just post in here. I can get this for $150, is that the best I'll probably do?

I plan to get Pikmin 3, W101, WindWaker and SM3DW

There's no disadvantages to transferring all your Wii stuff over.
There is one disadvantage that irritates me but it depends on whether or not you own the first LostWinds game. It can't be transferred (though oddly the sequel can). Apparently Frontier were working on a fix for this but the last update I can find on this is from months ago so I presume they didn't. You can't buy LostWinds from the Wii store on Wii U either.

You also can't use Gamecube controllers on Wii U, that's a disadvantage to anyone that might want to use one for Wii games that supported them (Smash Bros, Mario Kart Wii, etc). I didn't care about that one, never used my Wavebird for Wii games.

Buy now. Just make sure it has no scratches on the screen. I'd test it out to make sure it's not messed up.

150 is an absurd steal.

Monster hunter is still around 30 alone, and those controllers aren't free either.

not to repeat myself but...buy zombi u.

I have a ZombiU question - each time you die, do you always start from the original spot and have to work your way through to where you were with the next character? Are there shortcuts to get to where you were quicker?

I enjoyed the demo, but could see it getting frustrating restarting from the bunker every time and walking through a bunch of places you've already been.

Just for a bit of clarification, NSMBU/NSLU spoilers:

Both games have one secret level in each world (including Soda Jungle, BTW), and one secret world with nine levels. The secret levels are pretty amazing. Some of the worlds do have multiple secret exits. Also, both games have the exact same set-up, the secret exits in NSLU are in the same numbered levels as in NSMBU.

Didn't think about this, and it's true, if only for some Wii owners. Of course not everyone has Gamecube games and controllers, and I'd wager most Wii owners don't.

There are shortcuts. Except for resetting stats, you'll never lose hours of progress.

Wii games on my Wii U act bizarrely through HDMI...

Whenever I launch the Wii Menu from the Wii U menu, my screen goes purple. I have to go into system settings on the Wii U and change the settings from 1080p to 480p whenever I want to play my Wii games.

If this is real and everything works, it is truly a fantastic deal. Unparalleled.

Absolutely. That is a ridiculous deal assuming everything is in working order and the Gamepad isn't messed up. Hell, even if the Gamepad were messed up and you had to send it to Nintendo to repair/replace it, I'd still call that a pretty good deal.

Damn, I thought I gave the guy a good deal for Deluxe console, NSMBU/NSLU, bunch of VC games and eShop credit for $220. This is a great deal!

I removed MH3U from my deal so I can frame it on my wall and never forget the amazing times I had on it. I will never forget you Monster Hunter franchise, I'll just try.

Good on you, OP.

I don't want to get into it, but having just spent the past four hours with my new PS4--and having come away distinctly underwhelmed and even downright frustrated by several aspects of the machine, OS, and games--I can't help but contrast this with the pure joy I felt the night I unboxed my Wii U last summer.

It's an underappreciated console, to say the least.

Please enjoy!

I do! I do! Ive got a few classics. (TTYD, Metal Gear, Killer7, Viewtiful Joe and Prime) and a Wavebird.

Just gonna use my original Wii as my makeshift Gamecube and Homebrew system for my PAL games like Disaster, Xeno and Last Story. No biggie.

Hopefully the transfer process goes smoothly.

Don't die :-)

The update only took me a few minutes to download when I got mine in September.

Wow! It definitely took me about an hour all told with the download and installation. Maybe 45 mins. Just hooked mine up last night (got the $264.99 deal from Buy.com) and have been impressed thus far. Very excited about Mario 3D World.

Pikmin 3 is as fantastic as you'd expect.

It should go fine. It does help to have a second TV handy as you'll be jumping between systems, but it's not necessary.

Also, Gamecube saves won't be effected anyway because they're on a memory card, so you won't technically be losing that ability as long as you keep your original system.

I got my windwaker bundle the other week and I don't think it took that long to update. It take a little while but I don't think over 30mins unless you have really slow internet. Hope you enjoy yours, I love mine so far.

So far NSMBU is not matching Super Mario World on SNES at all. Not even close.

Does NSMBU have unlockable levels in the world map? Genuine question.

Of course it's not matching... NSMBU is a much better game. Better level design, actual challenge... only thing not better is the music.

What i got at launch, was ZombiU and 2 indie e-shop games. They are cheap and offer just enough to get a break from your main game (in your case W101). You don't necessarily need to buy a bunch of retail games to get some different experiences. Nano Assault, Trine 2...

PS: once your Wii info has been transferred to your WiiU, you can play those VC games on your WiiU in Wii mode... or download them from the WiiU eshop for a buck and a half. The system will automatically detect your Wii purchase of that game.

What is Miiverse?

It sounds like something similar to Playstation Home. Or is it better/cooler than that?

It's like GAF, minus the trolling and wars. You can post messages, screenshots, drawings, etc. It was especially useful for me while playing ZombiU as I asked for help and tips. I really love it.

yes, and no. but basically yes.
but it's not frustrating imho, when you realize the greatness of this permanent consistent world.
once you get back to your previous character you can kill it to get back your old stuff from the backpack, and this works also for your friends' zombified avatars

I got one yesterday. The Mario bundle since I already have the GC Wind Waker and I'm not interested in Nintendoland. I live in Mexico and this weekend we're having some kind of Black Friday equivalent, so I got close to US$150 in store credit as part of the deal. I used some of it to get Wonderful 101 and I'm saving the rest for 3D World or maybe Pikmin, I'm still not sure.

The update in my case took around 1 hour, but mexican internet is fucking slow so it was actually less than I expected. I really like the Gamepad, Miiverse and the OS, simple and intuitive.

I tried the first levels of New Mario U but I didn't like it that much, hopefully it gets better in the next worlds. I guess I will try Wonderful 101 tonight or tomorrow but I'm confident I'll like it, since I have enjoyed every Platinum game so far, even Madworld which had mixed reviews.

It's a nice console but the eshop looks kinda empty right now, as I'm used to the 3DS version. I'm satisfied with my purchase since there's a decent amount of interesting games right now. I can totally recommend this, maybe not as your primary console if you play more than 3-4 games a month, but definitely worth the price, in my opinion.

Dude, it was me you sold that bundle to! I want at least $20 back now!

(Oddly enough, I figured you were a Gaffer, seeing as when I went to the internet browser, the tab opened up to NeoGaf.)

I don't use it much, but from what I've heard you must be careful what you say there. No swearing, nothing negative towards anyone. It's very heavily modded.

Yeah not a huge deal for most, I'm sure. Ironically, I now use my Wii U as a Wii, my Wii as a Gamecube, and my Gamecube as a Gameboy Advance. :D

I literally just witnessed a Target employee talking a woman into getting an Xbox One over a Wii U because of the new Kinect.

I facepalmed.

Haha it's a small world.

I loved MH3U too much, and if I ever rebuy the console it's the only game I'd want to revisit. Plus I thought maybe if I put it in this PS4 I might be able to play a great game today

I have the same issue, only my screen goes red. I think it might have to do with the fact that I don't really have an HDMI port and I had to buy a DVI to HDMI adapter for it to work, but I don't really know, just guessing. If anyone knows how to fix this or what is causing it, please let me know.

Well that's exciting then :) I have some work to do.

Splinter Cell Blacklist, Deus Ex HR: DC, and Sonic Racing Transformed are good too. Deus Ex in particular.

Deus Ex is so good on this console. If you can stomach the added cost over the PS3 or 360 versions, the Gamepad implementation is some of the finest on the console I feel like. I really appreciate the elegant integration of the Pad with the game's UI elements, making the game just so much more playable than it was before.

What is Miiverse?

It sounds like something similar to Playstation Home. Or is it better/cooler than that?

It's basically a message board/twitter system built in at the OS level. Every game and app on the system have their own "forum", and a number of games have Miiverse integrated directly into the game. For example in Wind Waker you can send messages and pictures which will appear randomly in other peoples games as messages in bottles. If you get a message you can then respond to it (basically like a thread on the forum), keep the photo (for the figurine collection), etc.

Thanks so much for all the info and help guys I really appreciate it!

I'm headin home from work in a little while but Ill absolutely be sure to update the thread with my VC transfer success and what I think of the system tonight. Really looking forward to it!

Planning on getting one too, had little interest until recent 3D World footage and press. And now knowing about the Toys R Us Brack Friday bundaru for $260 with skylanders (no care) and Nintendoland (woo) I have even more of a reason to after all these spooky HW issues on PS4.
