Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

Looks like I'm getting a wii u to play with my neice. People still playing monster hunter? Looks like it scratches a simlar itch to demon and dark souls.
I haven't played it but I recall some folks in the past being disappointed that the combat isn't as deep as Souls. I think it's more loot oriented?

I was thinking of buying Ass Creed 4..
How is the WiiU version?

Really good, and really pretty.

Mario unless you didn't play WW back then... then Zelda.

I just bought Zelda separately anyway. Fuck DD. Happy with my choice. Thanks!

Yay! I'm a Wii U owner again. But wtf is this, an HOUR-long system update? Wtf. I can't even stop the download? I have an hour left to play tonight. Can I safely turn the system off and restart?

NNID?

Youve got way more than one update.

My shit took me all of Friday night, including transferring over all of my Wii stuff. I didnt get to actually sit down and play anything til Saturday.

Setting it up and everything was a blast though.

Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the family!

Yeah, setting up the Wii U is one of those moments that made me go "WTF?!". Nintendo's consoles used to be the easiest and most accessible to set up for the longest time, and going from that to the most tedious start up was jarring IMO.

But that was a year ago so I suppose I can forget about it now?

Yeah. It didn't take me too long, but it was annoying. I thought they flashed these with the new firmware lol.

Oh Ill never forget it. My first next gen system and the setup process taking all night and me not really giving a shit because everything was presented so nicely, everything was simple and clean and everything sounded fantastic? =D That's pretty memorable for me. Though, having you all as company throughout certainly helped a ton on top of that.

I'm not going to initiate another update then tonight. This is enough.

Alright I caved and bought the Mario U bundle from Target. It's downloading an update now.

So what are the must have accessories? A larger battery for the gamepad? Which one? Do I really need a screen protector?

I figure I'll get a pro controller eventually but $50 is too steep.

Welcome to the club!!

Pro controller is great, but you can wait sometimes they go for cheap.

Larger battery has not arrived to NA.

Get a screen protector.

If you plan to get wii motes there are 2 bundles, Wii Party U and Mario and Sonic Sochi that come with a Wii mote+. You need a lot of wii motes if you plan to play Wii Party U, Nintendo Land and Game&Wario

I think you're set. I don't think any accessory is worth purchasing at the moment. Look into some of the game recommendations from earlier on in the thread.

I was probably going to wait for Brawl, but 3D World put me over the edge so I'm going to try to get a Wii U before Friday so I maybe have time to set it up.

I'm a little confused because Best Buy is selling the Basic model, Deluxe mode, and Deluxe + Mario + NSMB all for the same price, $300. I assume the Deluxe and double Mario package is the best deal for new purchasers right now?

I'll probably just get a black wireless pro controller to go with it, and that should be all I need.

Yep, that's the best deal since it's like $90 worth of games.

Eh, none of it's necessary except I guess the pro controller if you want that. I haven't found the need to use one yet though. Pick up a few Wii remotes if you don't have any.

Just go for the games mostly, there's a ton of them now.

I finally bit the bullet and bought a Wii U last night. I've been one of the harsher critics of Wii U's game offerings but something changed leading up to the new consoles release dates and I decided to buy one. I think a part of it has to do with the continual moving away from local co-op or more family centric games on the other two consoles and me always wanting to own every console anyway. A little bummed about the price of the console itself but now that I've already paid for it I don't really care.

This is what I bought:
Wii U Mario + Luigi bundle and got Rayman Legends at no added cost
Zombi U
The Wonderful 101
Pikmin 3
Wind Waker
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
Nintendo Land
and of course, Super Mario 3d World when it's out.

Overall I'm pretty excited to see how the games play and how the system handles ( I haven't received it just yet). I'm glad this and my PS4 give me some solid gaming over the Christmas holidays.

You bought half of the U library and the PS4. I think you'll be set.

Thanks for the heads up, guys. Ordered a screen protector. Getting SM3DW but going to hold off on the other games I want (Pikmin, W101, Nintendoland, maybe Zelda) until I see some good sales.

When is the extended battery heading over to the states?

I know the white is only 8gb, but did anyone choose it over the black due to color preference? If so, do you regret it?

Probably going with the black. However it would be nice to have some color variety since my ps3 and ps4 are both black.

I got basic at launch. Yes, it being white played a big role in why I got that one; also because it was $50 cheaper (for a total of $150 off the system with store credit), an external HDD being easy to acquire, and me not seeing a real use for any of the deluxe extras.

Hidden fingerprints are a marvelous thing. ;)

Bah, apparently no Best Buy around me has instore pickup so I'll check some other stores. Any particular that might carry it that I should focus my search on?

I'd say the combat is deeper than Dark Souls really. All the weapons behave in completely different ways and have more attacks/combos. The world isn't as deep though, the areas are medium-big but all divided into small sections, with loading zones in between, so with the lack of travel time it feels fairly small.

The game's all about the loot indeed. You don't level up in an conventional xp sense, instead it's all based on your gear and your skill level. You make new armour by skinning materials off slain monsters, and you mostly upgrade your weapons instead of finding/making new ones.

Getting a larger battery for my gamepad as well. Seems the larger capacity Nyko one is off the market. Is the official Nintendo one the only one out there?

Are these external batteries necessary? How bad is the Gamepad's battery anyway?

Also, I feel really stupid for not buying a M&L bundle that came with another game (like Rayman) the way most of you did. Where did you all buy from? All I could find at retail were boxed bundles with no additional games beyond the pack-ins (M&L, or Zelda or NintendoLand).

Are these external batteries necessary? How bad is the Gamepad's battery anyway?

3-4 hours.

Not a huge deal to me since it has its own AC adapter and cable so I can just plug it in by the couch and keep playing without needing a long cord to reach the console.

You could have just hit cancel and it would have downloaded in the background. At least that's how it was with launch units and the initial update.

Depends on the person and their gaming habits, but for most of us it's not really necessary. With the premium WiiU you get a charging cradle to stick it in every night and a charging wire that's long enough to use if you run out while playing. I never run out of battery playing singleplayer games as you get 4+ hours per charge. Plus it charges fast so you can stick it in the cradle any time you go afk to extend your playtime even further.

Well, after selling my old console for an emergency rent situation, I've decided to reward my 4.0 with a replacement Wii U.

Has anyone had any luck getting their Club Nintendo account (not the NNID) unlinked from their original console by contacting Nintendo?

Might I suggest Target? Mine has had a whole bunch of the Mario & Luigi bundle in stock for a while now.

I still chose the Wii U in white, although I would've preferred it as a white Deluxe Model. Mine was part of a Mega Bundle, which included Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (which I would recommend to all owners), a Pro Controller in black, Wiimote+ in blue & Nunchuk, charging cradle, headset, GamePad case and protection cover, Metroid: Other M and LOZ: Twilight Princess. I bought it earlier this year in February, for the steal price of £299.

I have zero regrets, as I can attach an external hard drive, SD Cards, etc. at any time, and for colour variety, I had that with the controllers.

In my opinion, the battery is the least of your worries. Keep the cradle on a side table by your couch and place it in the cradle whenever you are not playing. It charges pretty quickly.

Walmart.com was selling the Nyko pro controller for less than $14 recently. Amazon was price marching it too. It's a pretty sweet alternative for the price.

Edit: Temporarily out of stock, but you can still order. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ANHBJBY/?tag=neogaf0e-20

That's a good tip, it's $ 29.95 on Amazon though. Maybe it'll get back down to that price for BF. I really want a pro controller of some type but $ 50.00 seemed a bit much.

Everytime I come into this thread, it's been harder and harder to wait until Sunday for my Wii U. Maybe I should stop coming here until then. XD

that's a third party seller, Amazon is selling it for $12.80 but it's temporarily out of stock
