My buddy was just notified by Target online that he will receive the standard edition instead of the day one edition.

What stores would have the best chance of having extra day ones tomorrow?

So I dont have an HD cable box with hdmi out in the room my Xbox One is going. Is there a cheap AV to HDMI converter I can get to run it into the Xbox's HDMI in? I might just have to go ahead and get another HD cable box.

Going all digital, is there any hope for me to play any game on the same day? (35gb will take a while)

KI or Kinect Rivals I guess.

How long are people needing to wait on various disc-based games to install before they're allowed to start playing?

We don't know the exact amount but it varies quite a lot, the more linear the game the sooner it seems.

If you have a friend buying some of the game you want you can use his disk to install them and then buy them digitally.

I'm getting pretty hyped up now. After work I plan on stopping by Best Buy to see if any line has formed and ask how many extra units they're expecting to have. Hope I can still secure one at the midnight release tonight.

10-15W isn't massive by any means and nothing compared to other stuff in your house.
For a standby function that is absolutely massive.

Just compare it to other devices, where you can use a remote-control to switch them on and have a power consumption < .5 W:
- PS3
- X360
- every modern TV
etc...

I know, in the "Instant-On" Mode you have several other functions that can justify a power consumption between 10-15W. The point is, that there should be a stand-by mode, where the power consumption is very low (< .5W) and you can switch on the device remotely. Like in all examples above...

But I don´t know if the statement in the quoted review is correct. I would appreciate it if one of you guys could check if it´s really not possible to switch on the XOne remotely in "Save Energy"-Mode.

I'm thinking about doing the unthinkable....

Might camp out for a Xbone tonight. Just for shits and giggles. There really aren't any launch games I'm interested in. But it's nice knowing that I'll have one once more games come out. I have no interest in Kinect or the TV bullshit either. But new shiny tech piques my interest

Hmmmm... I just got my PS4 last week with a shit load of games. I absolutely love it too. It's not like I need another console anytime soon. I would only get Ryse anyway. But hey...why not?

Decisions...

Just got my Xbox One and been messin around for like 2 hours. Does anyone know if you can send voice messages? I can't see the option when going to send a message to friends, no idea why this was taken out unless I'm missing it. Love the controller though, the dashboard is nice and fast, console is extremely quiet. Graphics in Dead Rising 3 are a bit disappointing though. The scale is amazing and the number of zombies but it doesn't look any better than something like The Last of Us but I guess that's the trade off for having such a big world and I'm sure engines and graphics will improve over time. Game looks like it's gonna be fun though. Look forward to trying Crimson Dragon and Killer Instinct next.

Any X1 friends? I wonder if it is gen restricted? For voice? No idea really though.

Huh?

You're comparing the standby mode on a X360, PS3 and TV to a Xbox One?

Really?

How many of those devices will continually upload/download while updating your system?

How many can turn on using voice commands by listening all the time for them?

How many can respond to requests to download over the internet while staying in standby mode?

The PS4 uses 70 watts in standby mode while downloading.

In that case you would have the choice between this two options:

- 10-15W power consumption and be able to switch-on your console with the controller
- 0.3W power consumption without that possibility

10-15W is really massive to just want to have the option to switch on your console with a remote. A TV or current gen consoles can handle that with much lower power consumption (a PS4 as well?).

Would be great if someone could test that, if that´s really the case for the XOne.

Maybe you can give the nyko Charge station a shot? i have it preordered at amazon. They will prolly not last as long as eneloops but its a nice little controller base so i can put it down everynight and will be fully charged the next day. It comes with custom rechargable batteries with "special contact points" for two controlllers. Here's a linky if interested :)

Obviously you haven´t read the second part of my post...

Thx, but it´s not about recharging the controllers, it is about turning on the console remotely in energy saving mode.

Can someone confirm, that the XOne can´t be switched on via the controller when in Off-Mode? (Power Consumption ~0.3W). Would be a step back from this generation...

That´s what a German review site states:
http://www.golem.de/news/xbox-one-im-test-neue-generation-alte-ladezeiten-1311-102833-3.html

Translation:
The power consumption in "Save Energy" mode is 0.2 to 0.4 Watt - in this mode it isn´t possible to switch-on the Xbox One with the controller.

From the Xbox Support Page:

So power button probably means the button at the console, not the button on the controller...

Maybe they got their wires crossed at some point and misinterpreted "Kinect controller" with "gamepad".

Trying to message other friends also on Xbox One btw. Also I used to use the AV cable on 360 to get audio through my PC and out of my PC speakers but since there's no AV input anymore, I guess I'll need to use optical and an adapter.

I game on 32" 720p. (1080p tv in the living room , but there i have gaming pc)
So this resolutiongate doesnt bother me much as long other stuff is similar, but i have some questions.

As i understand it the the process will be like this
Native game resolution -> upscaled to 1080 by xbox (if needed) -> downscaled to 720p by tv

- how will this downscale (downsampling) affect aliasing? Will it help?
- bf4 is 720p native, same as my tv. So it will be upscaled to 1080 and then downscaled back to 720p. Will that look better than if i get ps4 version which is 900p (so 900->1080->720p) or it should be the same?
- nba 2k14 is 1080p with now AA. Will downscaling to 720p help with AA? I have no intention to get that game but i am curious how will this work

TV is old Sony Bravia so i have no clue how good is the scaler.
Can xbox1 be forced to output 720p direcly (so that xbox does the downscaling)?

That's not going to happen apparently for now, seems like they want you to use the normal stand-by.

Official Dimensions yet?
And I have always had my powersupply sit on the carpet. Can that be bad?

You should set it on your TV stand if possible.

Queued up Crimson Dragon, Powerstar Golf, and Xbox Fitness (have a code for Killer Instinct). Now I just need my system!

Damn, this day is going to last forever. Oh well. Off to reconfigure my entertainment center and get it ready for its new baby...

Games section. Hit start on them to move them around. Took me a while too. My games and apps

Phat if you could, when you played Ryse yesterday did you notice compression artifacts in the first cutscene? The df footage shows a noticeable amount of it, but the footage is also compressed (2gb of 15 minutes).

That aside....wow, the music, Marius voice acting. I can't wait to play this game.

No mention of the free battlefield map pack on the store page. I was hoping they would throw it in with the digital versions.

I think tonight I will download KI, install a game, mess with the UI, play some KI. Then go to bed and hopefully start installing another game.

i checked specs of my 720p TV and it supports only 1080i (and 720p) input. No 1080p.

Will it work with XB1? (same question for PS4 if someone knows)
