Sony has to deal with them cause honestly, in this situation where the PS4 doesn't play PS3 games.. a massive ip releasing that late is a little more than a last gift to ps3 users. It's actually a reason to NOT update.. Sony should pay for the port at this point if that's what it takes.

The teaser image alone looks more awesome than any upcoming RPG.

Knew it would be PS3. Just like last last gen we will get a jrpg surge in the final years. Niche industry that struggle is going for the deeper userbase with mature, cheaper development tools. Thats why im not jumping into next gen yet, missed out last gen by doing that. This time i will wait it with some PERSONA!

Yep same here. Time to jump in and get a PS3 and some cheap games on Black Friday.

Don't know if it's been asked in this thread, but does winter 2014 mean January or December?

It sounds like a silly question, but when EDF Vita was announced, D3 announced it as winter 2013 and it came out in early January/February iirc.

That could be PS4, but i think it depends on PS4 JRPG ecosystem.

Persona audience is JRPG audience. It doesn't really matter if PS4 has more active userbase overall by 2015 if majority of it is just full of cod crowd which unlikely to buy this game. It's safer to announce the game for PS3 so their actual audience can hanging on their PS3 they already own, rather than announce it for PS4 and just hope for the best that half of their audience have the money and resolve to buy PS4.

Not really. Persona has grown beyond the JRPG audience, like Pokemon (obviously not quite to same extent). A port later down the road is more likely, yeah -- but the longer I have to wait (while it's already out on other platforms), the less excited I'll be for it. I still have my PS3 but it's harder to be excited about new games for it -- I'm even considering waiting on Dark Souls 2 to see if they port it. A year from now, I expect I'll be playing my PS3 even less than I do today.

As for cross-gen thing, Atlus surely not big enough to do this simultaneously? It is more likely if they port it later on. Look at P4Golden.

Maybe if they didn't simultaneously develop 3+ spinoffs...

It mean December 2014 to Jan/Feb 2015.

January is like 6 weeks from now. If P5 was a January release, we would have had Famitsu/Jump profiles of all the characters, and a ton of gameplay vids. It's next winter.

Would have liked to see more about Persona 5 other a little teaser, but hey, nice to see a release date for it. Nice to see it's going to be on PS3.

You are overestimating the Perona series a bit.

now let's guess how long it'll take for persona 5 to make it to the vita. I loved Golden on that system and it would be the preferred way for me to play the forthcoming title

Persona is animu game; it really doesn't have much mass appeal. Not more so than Tales, anyway.

It didn't become a breakout hit by catering to conventional JRPG tendencies. Most JRPGs are boring to me.
Same here, I am not a fan of RPGs, besides Pokémon, Megaten and Persona. Doesn't mean the series isn't a JRPG series mainly appreciated by JRPG fans.

Pokemon is also a JRPG series appreciated by JRPG fans. But some games have a wider appeal and Persona is one of them.

Pokemon isn't animu?

Put me in the group that is surprised that people are surprised by this. No matter what platform other than PS3 this was going to end up on (which turned out to be none), there was inevitably going to be a PS3 version.

Wow. Thank the maker!! It's happening!!

Also, lol that we finally get an official announcement of P5 for PS3 and yet there's still a ton of bitching about platform. THIS IS WHAT WE'VE WANTED!!! BE HAPPY!!!
