Well, I am glad that the game is exclusive to PS3. They can concentrate of making the best game possible while not having to worry about versions parity.

Also, who is the director, Hashino ? Is he the usual director for the Persona games or is he new ?

He direct Persona series since 3 and Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne.

Neat. Now we just need Dojima and Arena 2 will have the best roster ever this side of Smash Bros.

I imagine Dojima just kicking the shit out of people's personas bare-handed.

Also, obligatory. There are P4 spoilers in there, probably.

What kind of monster wants a Persona game not set in high school?

*raises hand* Make that shit university at least. I'm tired of the romantic sub-plots ending with "oh senpai, this is so embarrasing, I've never even been in a boy's room before!" Virgins are great and sexy and all that and I get it but give a background where it would make sense to have some experienced women too.

Pretty sure college not arranging/use chair like that.

It will, as every Persona game aside from Eternal Punishment.
That will be disappointing then. I mean, I love P3 and P4, but I feel like I'm done with the high school setting. After Catherine, I feel the devs have so much more to offer than another high school story, with typical teenage characters.

Hell fucking yes :D so bought day one on ps3, though I hold out hope that they are just waiting until the ps4 launches in japan before announcing that version (I wan to believe....)

Isn't Persona's thing HS settings?

I'm perfectly fine with PS3 game even if it arrives 2015 in US/EU but I hope they get the next title out faster like with P4 and that would be for next gen, even if it is just PS3 level graphics juiced up.

P5 2014 for PS3 and P6 2016 for PS4 believe.

Sony releases next home console -> Atlus announce new Persona game for previous system.

Well, there's now multiple people here with insider knowledge saying that the game was in development for PS4 at least at some point in time. So that's something I guess.

It'll be my first Persona. I will look forward to it.

I never claimed anything, and even "credible" people can be wrong you know. Seriously, you're telling me Atlus waited a whole generation to make the game just to switch to PS4 development before the console is even out? Considering their history on past games, does this seem plausible? Unless Sony money-hatted them, thats probably the most bone headed decision they could make.
To be fair, I think the entire behind the scenes GAF Persona saga is a simple misunderstanding. They obviously got good information though as they seemed to know Persona is a PS exclusive when a lot of people on GAF were expecting multi-platform.

To summarise: an idea of PS3/PS4, to PS3 only for now, and PS4 and other platforms in the future if they're able.

Some people got one part of info, some got the other part, at different times, and then that's likely where the conflicting reports came. And you got the back and forth. I was told Persona 5 on PS4 when I didn't even know what Persona was. Someone else a few weeks later told me it was actually PS3. From that, there's where I ended up learning what had happened.

This is part of what these guys do though, I imagine. They're not going to get 100% concrete information all the times. Sometimes, it can be a jigsaw. Different pieces, at different times, but it's not fit correctly.

Edit:

Also, Vita please continue being the son no one wants! Dancing game. I don't even...why do you exist?!

Also, I wouldn't be very trusting of that Winter date btw. This is not speaking from knowledge but just a gut feeling. My previous posts are from actual stuff i heard/know.

My prediction is we'll get this in the US in the Fall of 2014 probably around the holidays, I guarantee Atlus US will be working on the translation simultaneously, maybe a six month gap or so.

<speculation is fun>

Maybe they decided to move the game to PS4 at first then noticed.... no one else will be releasing anything substantial exclusively for it in Japan in 2014 (I mean, look at all the Japanese announcements for PS4, it doesn't look very good for next year, understandably so) and decided it's not wise to send their flagship game out there like that if people don't buy PS4 much next year which isn't even launching in Japan in 2013 like rest of the world. And maybe they don't have the resources or man power to tackle both at the same time like some other company might have.

</s>

In any case seems pointless to speculate over it right now.

I feel from previous generations, most of the Japanese developers, specially JRPG. Wait for a new FF game to come out then start to fully commit to that new PS platform when sizable audience has moved to it. I'm not sure if FF has that kind of effect anymore but still. So maybe 2015- 2016 things get better.

I mean, that makes sense and that was my first thought too but ignoring the easily capable cross-platform seems silly especially if they already have some PS4 work done. Sure, the japanese market is more important here and the PS3 will sell more to them but they know they get some profit from the western market as well why not spring for the bit extra to get it going cross-platform since they'll be releasing over here once the PS4 is in full effect for most people.

I think there is merit in your explanation but I think that's one side of it. I don't think it takes insider knowledge to deduce what was happening and what was going on. On the flipside, or an addition to your explanation, about the information hiccups is that people properly deduced what was going on and there were some details that were incorrect. This conflicted with what was actually true and gave a skewed idea/perception of what was going on in regards to the game.

Is your gut telling you before or after winter?

After. Always after for the best bet.

Ball & chains.....directed by the guy who did Catherine......COINCIDENCE?!?!

Need more footage, pls confirm for US soon Atlus

I absolutely agree. Catherine was a breath of fresh air.

Change platforms? Are you saying it was initially going to be for the PS2 or something, because there's no way it was in development for any other platform.

To me, it sounds like it was a Vita or Wii U game (with 90% the former), but when they saw these things crashing and burning, they went back to PS3.

I don't know how it could have been a PS4, since nothing changed there. Same for 3DS -- sales in the West are below expectations, but far from panic inducing.

This assumes a situation without interference from platform holders.

Both Persona 4 and Catherine came out in North America five months after their Japanese releases. I expect something similar for P5. They could even release it before the end of March if they want it to come out before the end of their fiscal year.

LOL. No. This was definitely not the case. You're definitely in the wrong on this one from what I heard.

I agree. Predictable teenagers and their hormones is getting tiring. At least change it up with Colllege or something.

same here. sucks having to buy a console so long after its release and with the next-gen already out.

I know right? Especially when this game will be overseas in 2015 most likely.

One reason P4 was received well at the West is that they kept the essence of story line upon localization so well.
I've seen some examples that what developers wanted to tell got lost on translation (for both ways).

How US got it sooner than Japan?

Because Winter 2014 runs until March 2014.

Remember, Persona 4 was announced March 2008 then released in Japan July 2008 then in the US December 2008. Atlus has REALLY short lead times between announcements and releases. Look at P4: Arena, too.
