Didn't Microsoft pay for exclusivity for Vesperia in North America? From what I gathered they did and after that deal expired Namco decided it was too late/wasn't worth it.

Sure, but the reasoning isn't really important. The fact that it happened is what is important. For all we know, the same type of deal could have occured here or Atlus decided they didn't like the way games looked or played on the 360 or Atlus doesn't like MS's stance these day or sega wants atlus with sony, there could be any number of reasons.

It would be nice if they had done a Falcom and did it on both Vita and PS3 but oh well.

I look forward to see what they're doing. I vote community college!

Well, I do and I would still like to see an older cast. Citing the whole brand is meant to appeal to said audience doesn't take into account that Persona 2 had an adult cast and a lot of people who started playing Persona 3 and 4 in their teens are now adults. I wouldn't be gravely disappointed if they did the high school thing again, but I'd love to see them try and tackle a new demographic.

The Persona 2 cast were high school students.

I really wonder about people's college experiences that they believe that is grimdark.

It obviously differs from person to person. There's the obvious stuff like drugs, sex, drinking, etc; but a lot of students undergo a sort of quarter-life crisis or have some sort of existential freakout during their college years. I'd really love to see a game tackle that.

Those look like school chairs; anyone hoping it won't be set in high-school better kill those hopes already.

I'm thinking the same thing but maaan, I can still dream.

I agree, I want the series to tackle things like this too in this day and age. The real problem is you are citing college experiences in the west but japanese college life is nothing like this.
No one says it needs to take place in Japn though......

Yup.
Hopefully it bombs and this will be the last PS3 game. Lets put those ugly framerates and sub-HD in the past forever, prease Japanese companies who suck at new tech.
What a ridiculous post.

Atlus ain't gonna make game with Ryse graphic to begin with.

I don't know about Catherine, but I'm pretty sure the 360 version of P4A did terribly.

For Japanese sales that makes sense. NPD charts might look differently, but Persona 4 Arena was incredibly niche for the 360 market, even more so when compared to traditional JRPG's.

I really doubt that. It would be nice to know the exact reason though, but I'm not really demanding it.

Every single anime fighting game sells like shit on 360. The entire anime scene is on Playstation.

Thankfully, their fan base is nothing like this guy.

As I said, it could be any of those reason and I'd like to know too and we probably will at some point from some type of insider info but, in the end, it is hardly surprising. The only surprise is if P5 had actually ended up only on the 3DS. Come on now fools.

You are purposely acting as banbait, aren't you? Well no, I fell for this once in an AA thread, never again.

Apparently Persona fans are really, really emotionally attached to the PS3. Sorry guys, I didn't mean to offend your precious. I'll just continue waiting for SMT outside of this thread :D

Great news, but...
Winter 2014? Worldwide? Japan only? Winter 2014 so January-March 2014 or December 2014?
And finally if winter 2014 for JP so when in US/EU? 2015 or maybe like Yakuza 5?

Were people really expecting it to come to the PS4 considering Persona 4 was released on the PS2 two years after the PS3 was released?

... damn, now i feel old. I even remember pre-odering the special edition that came with the shirt and the Teddie plush.

I'm so glad I decided to sleep through the stream. And I'm so happy it all worked out in the end :>

Now, I have to pray my phat PS3 survives that long

Unfortunately I don't think that's gonna happen. We'll see, though. I'm gonna hope for the best.

Completing your thesis can get real dark

I don't think grad school
suffering
really fits into what most people are thinking of when they think Persona: The College Years.

With that said, I am genuinely curious on what Japanese undergrad is like.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to buy a handheld system to play a game that released 4x on consoles with handheld ports.
Say that to everyone who bought them then. The complete series is available on Vita, a portable, how in the fucking hell it doesn't makes sense for you?

Thats was the second Persona game on ps2. Persona 3 came in 2006 so your point is kind of moot. At this rate P6 would be a PS3 game in 2016. Thats insane. Thats why Altus should try and build an audience as quickly as possible there.

This is like the 3rd official Atlus game on a console right? I wish they made more console games period.

List of Atlus games on 7th-gen / 8th-gen, non-handheld consoles:

PS3:
Catherine
Persona 4 Arena (with Arc System Works)
Persona 4: The Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold (with Arc System Works)
Persona 5

Wii:
Trauma Center: Second Opinion
Trauma Center: New Blood
Trauma Team

Wii U:
Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem (with Intelligent Systems)

360:
Catherine
Persona 4 Arena (with Arc System Works)

I'll be honest: I didn't imagine PS4 would have the most annoying port begging.

Please find somewhere in that post where anyone asked for a port of this game. I dare you. You crazy people are trying to turn a comment about crap platform selection into a port begging post for no reason other than being Persona lunatics.

Hmm, true. Not really thinking since I had to work overnight on a project. :P

But before we even see P6, they have to re-release Persona 3 and Persona 4 again. And then make P5: super edition for the vita.

Nah, if you actually bothered to read anything I've said instead of making some uninformed blanket statement then you'd see I'd rather it be on PS4. But your posts are stupid because 1) you make it sound like they should go for second son type graphics in Persona and 2) you are asking for a game that many many people have been waiting for long time for to bomb just because it didn't get on the system you wanted. Childish and misinformed is really the best way to describe your stance thus far in this thread.

Only thing better would've been a PS4 game, but I ain't even mad. My PS3 is going to stay hooked up anyway due to my huge library and PS+. PS3 showing it's gonna have legs like PS1 and PS2. With great games still coming out and price points finally dropping to sub $200, 100+ million consoles is looking pretty likely. Amazing if Sony pulls that off for 3 consoles in a row.

Those people that grew up are expected to have stopped playing games in Japan.
