So we got 4 Persona announcements today, and we're already back to P3 vs P4, platform wars, and the same arguments/demands that always plague these threads?

Never change, PersonaGAF.

THEY WILL BRING IT OVER TO AMERICA.

pls.

There is no doubt Persona 5 will be released on North American shores. Decent sales from Nino Kuni and Tales of Xilia (Namco-Bandai) have already proven to be a success, Sega will follow suit.

hmmm, I wonder if the gaikai tech will be ready by winter 2014? It would be cool to play it on the PS4 even though it is a PS3 game.

I really want to retire my PS3 before winter 2014

P3 characters felt like actual people for the most part.
P4 characters did nothing but worship MC.

Fight me

god, tell me about it. "senpai pls punch me in the face for ever doubting u *cries*"

and the game practically forces you to be worshipped by your teammates.

in p3 you had to fucking WORK to get mitsuru to even walk home with you.

I wouldn''t be against that, a japanese interpretation of oxford students solving some bizzare suburbian mystery is right up my alley. Or something set in germany with the feeling of Monster.

+1

It would be neat if Atlus tried to expand Persona like they did with mainline SMT in the mid 90s. Dunno about you guys, but to me, the essence of the series is a group of people fighting some demonic threat while socializing and carrying on their day-to-day activities. Once those elements are there, the setting can basically be anything; you could have Persona spin-offs in New York City, in Renaissance Europe, on a space colony... The possibilities are endless.

I like to think that writers have been workiing tirelessly the entire time this has been in development which means they should have plenty of material to work with that should help with the characters feeling like they are their own people instead of the MC's slaves or fuck buddies.

On one hand, I'd like to think that too. But the more cynical part of me can't help but think a ton of people enjoyed the fact that the everyone revolved around the MC.

Actual People? lol. In Persona 3, everyone has terrible problems that they fling at you way too fast.

Social Link lvl 1: "I don't know if I can swim fast enough to win this big race."
Social Link lvl 7: "My stepdad is touching my little brother, but my Mom has cancer and needs his financial support. I don't know what to do."

At least in P4, although they knob-slob the MC too much, they have more realistic problems.

True! This is correct.

In P4 ending, when they are like "Senpai, I will wait until the end of the world, living for the hope that I might one day see your beautiful face once more, and I might be able to bask in the glory of your magnificent splendor." And the MC looks around and goes "...mh." and walks away. LOL, he hates those kids so bad.

I hate in P3 how you'd have too choices like:

1. Keep believing in yourself.
2. Eat a dick, you fat whore.

And you pick '1' and they are like "YOU DON"T KNOW ME!" and the social link gets reversed.
This is exactly why I prefer P4 over P3. They're kids. They're going to have silly, mostly non-life threatening problems.

Great. A P3 vs P4 thread. Ugh.

Anyhow, even if college is supposed to be a drag in Japan, I still don't think you CAN'T craft interesting college-age characters. Why does it even have to be a school setting?

Its the series tradition

People keep mentioning EP, but that doesn't have college student either.

The only installment that have college age chara is the fighting game.

Ironically people freak the fuck out back then with the possibility of P4-2, which actually have the best chance to have that setting.

Reading through this thread, and the Persona Q thread, and unggh. Some of the replies were just horrendous. Lets just enjoy these great persona games guys and leave out the fanbase vs fanbase bullshit. Hopefully we get more info about this before tgs

While they technically weren't in college, the EP cast was mostly in their twenties. I think that's the age group persona 5 gang should be in as well but I'd rather it not center around school again

I dunno. I felt like you never really went outside your Circle much (At all). You know what I'm talking about? If you made it about college, you'd join a circle your first day, and that would be your group of friends for the whole year.
If you put it like that, real life high school is similar as well. Not many people jump around various clubs and have multiple social circles like the protagonists in Persona do :P

yeah i hope they can port this to the ps4. i'll probably buy whatever console it's on but at this point i'd rather get a ps4 than a ps3

also considering the theme color is red, i guess that character in p4a2 is the main character

"Hey bro, bro...bro....pheromones bro. They'll get us all the chicks and maybe I won't be socially awkward after all!"

Get the ENTIRE fuck outta here Yosuke

Things I'd like to see:

I'd like the game to be a bit darker, akin to P3.
Deeper social link system (enemies maybe?).
Relationships with either gender.
Perhaps a talking protagonist. I don't mind mute but having a voice would be nice.
Maybe some protag customization (clothing, hair)
A similar cellshaded art style to Catherine would be neat.

And that's all I can think of atm.

At this point, I'll stay cautiously optimistic. I'll consider it a win if there are actual consequences if I try to play all the girls at the same time again. And like a real consequence, not just the
valentine's day
scene from Golden (near the end) where the game tried to make me feel bad but no one actually directly called me out on my antics.

Sorry if already answered/asked 1000 times, but :

If the game is out in one year, then it must have been in dev since at least one year... right ?
I mean, hen can we expect an ingame trailer ? I'm so effin' HYPED for this, P4 and P4G are some of the best games i ever played.

It's been in development since 2010. Well, pre-development, anyways. It's been in actual development since 2011.

It all depends on when they want to show more of it.

I imagine we'll get a trailer in a few months, probably at a bigger event. We'll get more details in Dengeki and Famitsu as the time goes on. I expect at least a little art style stuff in Dengeki this month.

If it's the cover story, I expect we'll get more than just art.

I don't get it... why no gameplay then ? Unveiling at a special (japanese) event ?

Because they didn't want to overshadow the other announcements? Because they have future, more involved media plans for Persona 5 announcements? Because it was the final piece of their plan to troll those watching the stream, grasping at the hope that they would see Persona 5?

I dunno.

Winter 2014 is a long time from now...probably want to build more hype before they show anything. Maybe the game has been in limbo longer than we thought.

Who knows...I just hope Sega doesn't pull their usual shenanigans

Aside from protag customization (I'd like just a default look instead of a user-made one):

- Bigger dungeons, not a fan of tight corridors and randomly generated levels.
- Quests that aren't fetch quests, have weight, a few Super Bosses, background info (a la SMT4), and can occasionally offer extra scenes

True. You are a complete man-whore in P4, too. On the Christmas sex-date, I went with Rise, because I rationalized that I could holla at any one of these chicks like in a week, but idol pussy? That don't come around every day.

Trust me, P4 is a lot more enjoyable if you pretend that the MC actually hates all these dweeby kids worshiping him.

I remember how I thought I would like so many characters in P3, but as their social links continued, you realized that you hated them. Yukari was a HORRIBLE whiny snob. That's when I became Team Misturu-Senpai 4-life.

In 3, by social link lvl 5 I'd be like "Look. you need to call the mo' fuckin' po'lice. I'm gonna turn around, walk away, and pretend we never had this conversation." Like, I don't want to be involved in your family problems, my dude. I just want to be soccer buddies.

Didn't read through this thread, but am I the only one who doesn't want to see this take place in a highschool setting with a bunch of teens leading the charge like the last two games?

One of the things that pulled me into Persona 2 was the setting and characters. Typical, non-sexualized female lead; an adult (20-something); took place in an office setting. It was so different from anything I had ever played that I put up with the sluggish battle system all the way to the end.

I want to see something different. Not just for the sake of being different mind you, but because I genuinely think the Persona series can cover a lot of ground that hasn't been covered before in a JRPG setting brilliantly. It taking place at a police department with a new recruit starting on his/her training day could be awesome, for instance.

They trolled the entire fan base by annoucing another P3/P4 collaboration but this time in chibi art style and a dancing rhythm game before having everyone hang for 40min until finally getting a taste of what P5 was. Last night was to get everyone's hype into overdrive by making them go from utter disappointment to megaton levels of exitement. They didn't need to show gameplay.

They are kids.

Persona 3's cast were kids as well, but they were very mature about the situation through and through (well... except Junpei). Everyone first started thinking it was fun and even Akihiko thought of it like practicing for boxing. Later on they change and it starts getting taken serious, I liked that.

I didn't notice the change in Persona 4. All that happened to them is that everytime
someone closer to them gets taken
. That's about it.
No resolve, just that (Insert name) is taken and let's get them back and keep on chugging
. I couldn't take them serious about their resolve's at all.

I liked the P4 cast better then 3's, but P3's cast was so determined and mature that they were great in there own way.

Well if there's anything we know about P5 is that there will be classrooms somewhere. Doesn't mean the entire cast will be high schoolers (could be a mix of teens/YA like P2), but its doesn't look like they'll completely change the setting.

They thats because the situation was so serious that aside from their playful attitudes, there wasn't any funtime. There were kidnappings and murders happening. shit got real real fast.

Their fun times were had trying to relax between each happening.

I'm fine with the whole school motif they've got going on, I would just prefer if at least one of the Persona games didn't center around it from the student perspective. Hell, even reversing the roles a bit and making the MC a new teacher from out of town having to adjust to a new school and classroom could be pretty cool if done right. As long as there aren't any weird "dating the student" social links. But dating the students' moms? That could be pretty amazing. :P

I much preferred P4's way of handling main characters. In P3 it felt like the plot's general outline was based too much on the emotional baggage that the main cast brought to the table, all of them who also just happened to be connected to one another in some way. This was why Junpei was my favorite character in that game cause most of his woes are because he placed himself in that situation willingly, which can be said for a lot of P4's main cast as well. They're kids who realize they have talents no one else has and they think they can take on the issue without any hitches, and it's because of that they don't realize the situation is bigger than they could ever expect it to be. There's nothing in their backstories that shaped the general plot of the games.

With that said I definitely welcome more mature overtones such as those that were in P3, I just hope it remains grounded enough that the characters are able to relate to.

I for one would like to see them continue with quirky characters and cheesy lines. If you want darkness and sadness go play an SMT game. Let's not forget that the main characters are KIDS in HIGH SCHOOL, and kids in high school are generally immature and they say and do stupid things.

Nah, I love me some Rise but if push comes to shove, I'm sleeping with Mitsuru waaaaaaay before I'm sleeping with Rise.

mmmm, nah. She is pleases my color pallet , but that is about it. Same thing with C.Viper, except for actually like C.Vipers deal.
