This decision is just asking for port begging.

No it isn't

They probably dont want to release on a system with a small install base, yet aren't releasing on 360 too which would effectively double the amount of people who might buy this game.

No it wouldn't

Yet they are releasing on a system that is notoriously hard to program for making it harder on themselves and might result in a worse game.

No it won't

They probably could have gotten a game up and running much faster on XB1/PS4, polished the fuck out of it and sold it xmas 2014 on a pretty healthy install base by then.

No they couldn't

Well yeah, its why I never got into the series that much. As an adult playing a high school dating sim/RPG is not appealing at all aestheticly to me and to many people. If persona didnt limit itself to such a niche demographic it could be so much bigger.
Then play the mainline games? Seems odd to complain about a series you aren't interested in because of some gameplay elements and want it to change to suit your needs when it will survive just fine whether you play it or not.

But seriously, play the mainline games if you haven't already.

So defensive, Im hardly complaining, just saying the series does not appeal to me.

What am I reading here?

"You all know that persona game? Yeah they really should have made it a FPS, it would have sold more that way and had a bigger fan base."

Ok? Cool but they didn't want to make a shooter or anything else. This is what Persona is, they may mess with the forumla in different ways but you don't take a long running series and just flip it for no reason. The games are successful now.

But it doesn't matter if it appeals to you or not. You lead with "it should be doing this...." but it shouldn't be doing that because atlus has no reason to change their game and idea to suit an individual who doesn't like it.

Wasn't P4 super late in ps2 timeline?

And yet that was mostly regarded as the best one yet?

People are just always going to complain about something. Bring on godly P5.

Plus I easily see it being a gaikai-able game for ps4

I didn't mean to come across like that. I thought my suggestion to play the mainline games would sort of suggest you could enjoy a similar experience without all the dating sim stuff. There are so many titles you're bound to enjoy one.

2(3?) years after last gen started.

Hmmmm I have the $10 voucher still from the PS4 pack in. Should I grab P2EP in the Vita store? I enjoyed P3, P4 and SMTIV so would i like this GAFers?

Releasing a niche JRPG on 360 wouldn't "effectively double" sales. Even with a much bigger franchise in Final Fantasy, the 360 version of FFXIII got outsold by the PS3 one by 3:1, without even accounting for Japan. No developer worth their salt is still struggling with PS3 development (especially not with exclusives or games using it as the lead platform), with Catherine, the last game the Persona team having developed for HD systems, turning out better on PS3 than 360 anyway.

And even by Christmas of next year, the combined PS4 and Xbox One install base still won't compare to PS3's.

So ready.

LOL this whole thread has been like:

Personally, I've never played a Persona game but just from Gaffer's reaction Imma pickup P5.

There's no JRPG audience for the PS4.

There will probably be no JRPG audience for the PS4 by winter of 2014.

Audiences go where games are. Do you think JRPG fans are people who love being hunched over some shitty small screen on portables or do they put up with it because they like the games?

Pretty much, except I'd add that I like portable Jrpgs, but console's a different experience that has been sadly waning. Then again I'd hardly call myself -specifically- a jrpg fan, it's not my favorite genre by a good margin.

Then there is no reason to release it on anything other than the PS3 is there?

Aeana posted this earlier in the thread:

I guess you also missed my later comment that things change. Yes, it is the safest bet, which is why it moved back to PS3 earlier in the year. This game has had some issues, and the development difficulties and presumably the Index financial situation caused them to change platforms. All of the ups and downs with this game are the reason why I've been pretty quiet the last few months, because different details kept changing.

Going by what others have said as well (Verendus, kayos) after this post the game used to be or was considered for PS4 at some point but they decided to go back to PS3 due to developmental/financial issues.

So yeah cross-gen or PS4 exclusive has been out of the equation for legitimate reasons.

I'm so happy we finally got a release date! Looks like they are going for a red motif this time around.

So do you guys think S.Links are going to be kept? What about setting? I wouldn't be surprised by high school, college, or workplace environment.

What are the chances of Persona 5 being ported/streamed through Gaikai to PS4?

I'd be surprised if someone at Sony wasn't working overdrive, trying to figure out how to convert a vast majority of the PS3's library to be ready for Gaikai's release.

Bound to be a bunch of red tape and legal-ese that they have to wade through, but it's something that I'm sure the higher-ups - or at least Shu - see as the bullet point that sells the service.

Sales indicate that they don't mind. I'm glad this is on PS3, but the notion that JRPG players hate portables is laughable.

I wonder how big this series got because of the endurance run? I've never played a Persona game and don't have that much of an interest in playing one but I have spent like 300 hours watching the endurance run a few times.

I'll probably pick this game up just to show my support though.

I do. My interest in a game is greatly diminished once I find out they're on a portable.

And I do own a PSP and DS. It's an absolute chore for me to play anything on them.

The Giant Bomb one? I doubt it had much of an impact. Persona 4 was decently popular when it came out.

I do but that is just me. (I own both anyways.)

Your individual tastes seem irrelevant to what was being said. Obviously, there are all sorts of different preferences in a player base, but you are one person and don't necessarily reflect trends.

You're ignoring the extra expense of developing a game on PS4/XB1. And why go for what *might* be a healthy install base when they can go for a console that already has millions upon millions of units sold with consumers who are interested in a new Persona game? It's a safe move from Atlus and probably the right one.

Putting it on XB1 is especially unlikely I'd guess. Is there ANY viable market for them on that console? Doubt it.

I never said double sales. I said double the amount of people to sell to. Even being outsold 3:1 they are still leaving that :1 on the table. Of course they will stay niche with that attitude. Fuck, I think they should release the game on 360/PS3/3DS/Vita/XB1/PS4/WiiU but I am crazy like that. I had forgotten about Catharine so they actually have experience on both platforms.

I already told you why it's on the PS3 mang. Take it or leave it.

Sorry I wasn't aware I logged onto Sorian's private blog. I thought this was a discussion forum. You are right about their reasons. I just dont agree with their reasons.

So just discredit the feelings of players even if they're not the mainline trend? Nothing personal, but good to know. I guess I'll just stay quiet since I'm irrelevant.
