Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

I have a question guys, since my audio receiver doesn't have an HDMI input is it possible to have picture via HDMI and audio from a composite/component cable via the rca? I don't want to play with component because from what I've heard the picture quality is much better via the HDMI. :(

Yes I'm really sorry, I didn't see your answer, I edited my post afterwards.

Thanks for the help! I think I'm gonna go for it!

Just ask the guy to change his login details to either a dummy password that he will then give you or use an email address you give him and a dummy pw of your choice so you can take full control of the account without having to fear he'll log into it from the web in the future or something.

Pulled the trigger on the Amazon.de Wii U + Wind Waker deal.

:D :D :D

Congrats, I did the same. Mario and WWHD are amazing. Disappointed by the image quality of the gamepad screen, but those games are pure bliss.

Ok I just did. He says there is no password, you just log in the system. How do things work exactly?

Oh boy ...he obviously has no clue about anything then. What he's referring to is the general user account you select (or auto select) when booting up (your Mii). Of course there is no password log in during the startup process. But in order to have redeemed the WWHD code, the guy would have had to go onto the eShop after creating an NNID (username, display name and password) to redeem the code.

It's how you can't go onto PSN without a PSN id while switching around multiple user accounts on a console level. You'll have to play tech support with him, as he likely isn't very savvy in that regard or just has a shitty memory and forgot how he signed up for his NNID...

Ok I'm trying right now. Is this a process you can do through the WiiU only, or can you do it through a browser?

Yes. In the settings you can choose to have audio output from 1) HDMI, or 2) Non-HDMI (i.e. component/composite) or 3) both.

(It was added in the last 'big' firmware update).

Bought a second hand Wii U with Darksiders II.

Decent game. Graphics are not mindblowing and the UI is rather slow but good first contact. Nothing out of the ordinary though, I got a very faint goosebump when I connected the machine to the TV but aside of that, no other excitation signs provoked.

Will buy Mario 3D World later today.

Really loved Darksiders 2. A shame we'll never see another.

Well, we still might. Nordic Games wants to do something with the IP. Who knows what shape it'll take though and who would develop it...

Something is bound to happen with the IP, though.

A shame we'll never see another.

We will most likely see another. It's just a question of how much of the original staff will work on it. The new IP owner has been pretty open to the idea that the original staff could work on Darksiders 3 too.

I get why people play multiplat games on WiiU but if you want the feels. Play pikmin, zelda, mario, Lego city, zombie u, W101. I would even throw in wii sports u and wii party u, both rocked hard with the family over thanksgiving.

4 player coop. How often does that happen on other hardware??

Weren't Vigil absorbed by Crytek. I doubt they are going to work for some tiny company that has only two ok selling franchises.
Even if Nordic does make a new one, it won't be even close to the same.

We'll see what happens. I'm not as pessimistic as you on the matter.

Yup, and we're never getting a sequel.
Watch your tongue, less I feed it to you! Actually I would love to see a ZombiU sequel even if it's on the PS4/XB1. It will lose some of the charm and cool nuances of the Gamepad but it's a franchise that deserves sequel and with a little tweaking could be amazing!

Fairly decent game with a respectable port: they tried to make sure the wiiu buyers of the game weren't horribly screwed over by hard-loading the pre-order bonuses onto the disk.

It also filled the fantasy niche for launch.

What are the chances we'll see a better deal for Super Mario 3D World and Wind Waker HD before the holidays? The best one I can find is Toys R Us right now doing Buy 1, get one 40% off which makes Wind Waker HD $29.99 instead of $49.99. It's a savings of about $20 total when I buy both which isn't a crazy deal, but still nice. Since both are fairly new games, should I be expect any further discounts before Christmas or should I just buy them now?

Hopefully new owners will buy ZombiU and maybe Ubisoft could see a sequel as a viable option. ZombiU is a good game and a great concept. Being a launch game and having all the changes on the game concept during development probably prevented it from being a true masterpiece. By the way, I'm not saying the game is bad, far from it. I love it. It is just that a sequel could iron out the imperfections of the first game (game breaking bugs, lack of melee combat variety and the Arena). I do hope they make a sequel. Sabe concept, same tension filed atmosphere, same difficulty and et cetera plus more polishing.

Silent Hill 1 is one of the only games I think that ever made me scared or genuinely disturbed, despite the low-res graphics and 20FPS gameplay. I hope the remake doesn't disappoint.

Don't expect a remake...expect its own thing.

There's no combat, it's all exploratory + running (in select sequences that are the worst part of the game).

But the adventure-y part makes it worth suffering through the escape sequences!

I played this and Heavy Rain back to back and Shattered Memories wins by a mile!

If the game continues to sell, Ubi might grant our wishes.....

Its just that the cumulative sales have been pitiful up to this point for a multimillion dollar game

Darksiders II is awesome. It's not a Wii U showpiece by all means, and the menus are very clunky with that input lag, but it's one fine game. I really enjoyed it.

That's great. I really want to play the first one actually. Hope part 3 comes to Wii U... :(

Ok. I never quite understood what was DLC in the game and what wasn't. One of the places listed on the box as DLC I'm pretty sure I never saw during my first playthrough.

Everything transfers. The system transfer is the one way to move those previously locked-down saves like Brawl. The one and only game that doesn't transfer is the original LostWinds (WiIWare). There's a message on the Wii Shop about it.

Loading into Wii Mode never was a nightmare or super slow. Don't know where you got that from.

Thanks for the info. I don't know where I heard that from either. Maybe it was just a takeaway from when the Wii U OS was slower before the patch came out.

The only thing keeping me from transferring everything is not being able to play Brawl with a gamecube controller. But I suppose I'll have to get used to another controller when Smash 4 comes out anyway.

Planning on giving my old Wii to my nephew.

Well lucky for you, there's an adapter you can buy to get the Wii U to recognize a gamecube controller as a classic controller. I don't have the link right now cuz I'm on my phone, but you can get one for fairly cheap off Amazon.

...I am so happy this exists. They'll have to pry the gamecube controller from my cold, dead hands!

I noticed that the port for the gamepad's AC adapter is the same shape as the the one on the 3DS. Is it possible to charge the gamepad with a 3DS cord?

No. They might look similar but Wii U gamepad's and 3DS's charging ports are different (wii u's port was slightly wider iirc). I have tried, it would have been handy to be able to use 3DS's charger. :p

This is a tough lesson for everyone to learn eventually :(

I tried PlayOn on WiiU this week, and i have to say, streaming works pretty good. It's free, as well. You can pretty much watch any movie format, even MKV, PlayOn will encode on the fly. You can download it here http://www.playon.tv/mymedia.

So basically, after installing it on your pc, you set a folder with your media files, restart the program, use the Wii U browser to browse to your PC folder over your local network, and watch your media files on TV.

Plex also works wonderfully. Been using it since this Summer.

Bought the Zelda Wii U bundle for $249 at Best Buy and wound up with another $50 gift card all because I reserved the system online the night before. Huge score!
