Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

Quick question. The games came with the codes to add in Club Nintendo, but I haven't found a card for the console. Should there have been one (in which case it is probably redeemed) or is the process done now via internet somehow?
Also, is there a thread for exchanging ID's for friends lists?

This is how it works, in the UK at least

http://www.nintendo.co.uk/Support/W...o-register-Wii-U-in-Club-Nintendo-688104.html

And this is the latest exchange thread

Finally I am a member of the Wii U family as well! Greetings!

I got the premium console used for 320 euros and:

Zelda WWHD (digital)
Pikmin 3 (retail)
BLOPS2 (retail)
FIFA13 (retail)

The last two are going to be exchanged for a nice Super Mario 3D World. Aw yisss.

I will also get W101 and ZombiU for sure. And NSMBU and Nintendoland down the line at some point.

You won't find a card for Club Nintendo inside the box. If I remember correctly, you have to go into the eShop on the Wii U, where an option exists to enter your Club Nintendo information to have it automatically linked to your Wii U. It's quite easy!

Enjoy!

Just jumping on GAF now to see if anyone has mentioned the new Christmas music on the Wii U eShop??

It's so lovely!!

Yes I found these instructions, but when I click "Menu" in the e-shop, there are no such things as settings etc, I also saw the demonstration video in the official Nintendo youtube page, and indeed it seems the e-shop has changed with the latest update and I can't find this option.

I suspect that the console is not registered, because neither are the games.

Also, that exchange thread you posted, is it for EU? Or it doesn't matter?

As a day one purchaser. I just realised none of ye guys will get the digital deluxe promotion unless ye bought the Nintendo land bundle.

Considering I'm a digital only purchaser and love the random offers Nintendo has (those 3ds eshop offers should be offered on wiiu) this is a huge bonus.

So far I've made back €30 (6 full priced games) but have also been able to take advantage of retailer codes on game.co.uk and the 30% discount on w101 on launch day and still get points for redemption.

Also I never had a Wii... But genuinely adore this console and couch multiplayer. Wii was far too mainstream for a hipster like myself.

This all sounds awesome, but I will not jump and purchase digital games until I get some confirmation that my purchases will forever be catalogued in my Nintendo ID for future systems to come (and of course in case I need another WiiU)

They are definitely connected to your Nintendo Network ID. Transfering between Wii U's is complicated (this is going to be easier in future though). That said I understand your conserns.

Well I hope that doesn't keep you from playing Wii games on the Wii U, since there's a solid selection of Wii games to choose from, including Nintendo's own heavy hitters.

Oh, that's weird - if I go to the eshop menu now, I have the Settings option underneath History, I have to scroll down a little way, and expand the view using 'view all' to see the Club Nintendo option.

About the exchange thread, I don't think it matters, but I'm not 100% on that.

Yeah, I'm starting to think it is because I have set that I live in Greece, and we dont have Club Nintendo support here, we have some other local representative company club thing. If I set it to UK I bet it will become available..although I'm not sure whether I will be able to get any Club Nintendo prizes then!

Congrats. If you like soccer, keep FIFA 13 though. I've spent 350 hours on it already, close to perfect off TV and online modes make it something special.

And I just found out I also get a 5 euros in the e-shop because of his Zelda purchase. Anything good for that price?

Don't want to rain on your parade but, for a used system... that's not really a killer price though. Was it basically new or did you know the previous owner? I can find the Zelda bundle new for 280 euro's, about 40 euro's for Pikmin3 (i payed 45). That leaves two launch games that can be found in bargain bins or on ebay for cheap.

Here all bundles I can find new cost 320 euros, one store had the Zelda bundle for 300, but it is from another city and it had added transportation costs. Ditto for anything I would have bought from foregin stores and/or ebay.

I am just happy I got the system, and two of my most anticipated games for it.

Man, I know download versions are maligned on GAF, but it's so sweet playing on the GamePad upstairs in bed (console is downstairs!), and being able to lazily alternate between 3D World and Wind Waker and Wii Party U foosball on a whim!

Sure. Have fun with it. I'm currently playing WWHD and NSMBU. Just finished Batman AC & AC3. Still have to work myself through the final boss in Pikmin3 and the final part of Earthbound.

The Mario and Luigi bundle I bought had a sticker about the digital deluxe promotion on it.

I couldn't care less as I buy very little digitally (just VC stuff and cheap download only games).

I don't replay or collect games, so being able to sell them off on Amazon after beating is hugely important to me.

They're maligned primarily by people looking to score console wars points. In reality it's fine, you can replace everything if there's a problem. And with a system like this it makes a ton of sense for the exact reason you outlined.

I've owned a Wii U for a while, but the only games I own are Nintendo Land, ZombiU, Wind Waker HD, and a few of the cheap Nintendo Virtual Console downloads (back when they were .30). I should probably buy Super Mario 3D World at some point (or whatever the new one is called) but I haven't felt motivated to do so yet.

Do it, its the most fun ive had playing Mario since 64

I'm gonna try to stay up late tonight to snag one of the Wii-U bundles off Ebay for their Black Friday sale. Supposedly it's $249. I just... HOPE.. it isn't refurbished (I'd rather get a new one) and it's a bundle I want. Preferably the Mario & Luigi one. I think their deals change at midnight.

back-up plan, best buy is having a $10 certificate thing per every $100 spent on IN STORE PICK-UP items, get a mario wii u bundle and something cheap to push it past $300 before tax, it's something at least.

i'm going to regret the constant deal searching for the mario bundle when/if a Mario 3d world special edition wii u comes out Xo

100% yes, it's amazing. I still like the gamepad a lot, but once I had the pro in my hands I was like, "what took me so long? "

just not sure at close to $50, will I really use it when the gamepad is the main controller?

be a no brainer if it would at least work with Wii games...

is it worth getting a Wii U Pro controller?

Heck yeah! Don't hesitate getting one. It's a must if you want to game with a standard controller and it just feels so good in your hands. Plus you get about 80 hours on a single charge. You can use the gamepad as a mini TV while you use the controller. For games like Monster Hunter Ultimate I prefer using the Pro controller while having the gamepad sitting in its charging cradle propped up in front of me as a secondary utility/map screen. Also playing SMB3DW with the Pro makes me feel like a platforming god!

The GamePad is the most comfortable controller I've used in a long time. For someone with NBA sized hands, it's ideal. And for the first time in a decade, it's a Nintendo system with reasonably-sized face buttons.

Ya I really love the gamepad. Keeping my eye out for the bigger battery whenever they release it in NA.

I've said it before, but I'll say it again: Thank god for all you Gaffers who are picking up Wonderful 101 along with your Wii u purchases. In spite of all the holiday furor about the great games coming out right now, Wonderful 101 is still the true game of the year, and maybe the greatest character action game of all time. This game is a love letter to otaku, and I'm glad to see that more people here are gonna get to experience the awesomeness.

I guess that isn't too bad of a deal. $30 off would be something at least, lol. :)

About Wii-U Pro Controller... What games would it be better to use that for compared to the Gamepad? Isn't the 2nd screen one of the best things about the system?

You can hate me then. =) I just bought a Wii U (Zelda bunduru) yesterday. Downloaded the demo for W101 and absolutely hated it. Won't touch the retail game at any price. I'll put the target on my forehead and you can feel free to take aim. I was also surprised at how god-awful Sonic is. I hadn't been following the game much, so I didn't know about the low reviews. I just knew it looked like Mario Galaxy, but man oh man is it not Mario Galaxy. Between Zelda, NSMBU+Luigi, Pikmin, and Mario 3D World, I won't need much else for awhile.

I have big hands too, but it doesn't make the gamepad any better to me. The distance between the bumpers and triggers is just dumb. I hate the controller and have considered returning the console because of it. Instead I've ordered a Pro controller from Amazon and have high hopes that it will alleviate the controller complaints that I currently have.

This thing is just so good for PC gaming. oh so good.

There is your problem right there. This is a deep game with complex mechanics that take hours to learn and become proficient at. The very reason why it doesn't present well in a demo is why it is such a great game. Trying to distill its greatness into a 20 minute long demo is just kind of dumb. It's sad that a game like this takes time and patience from players in order for it to be appreciated, but that's the way it is.

This all sounds awesome, but I will not jump and purchase digital games until I get some confirmation that my purchases will forever be catalogued in my Nintendo ID for future systems to come (and of course in case I need another WiiU)

All your purchases are tied to your NNID. That is known fact. Once you create an NNID and buy stuff while logged in with that account, the purchase is tied to that account. Like everywhere else.

So it's similar to Monster Hunter in that regard? Interesting. I may have to move Wonderful 101 a bit higher up on my list of games to buy.

Can you sign in using that NNID on another Wii U console and redownload a game you bought on your first console?

No, not like everywhere else. Nowhere else do you have to call the console maker and beg them to allow you to download your purchases to a new console, and then if they decide you can, wait a day or two for them to activate it.

No, not without going through customer service. A game sharing or console-hopping service, this is certainly not.
Then it's not the same as the other consoles. It's not a true account service if it's tied to one console.

Having to go through Nintendo to allow you to move your account to another console is ridiculous. There are better ways to prevent sharing digital games than this.

Hmm seeing your posts in this makes me wonder why you're posting in this thread?

you should really give the game a second look

I wasnt that high on W101 either. the graphics never really looked that great and while the idea of having 100 small dudes mash up into one big hand or sword seemed interesting the demo made me really think that the game will be bad

however I watched these videos of a guy called saur and i finally understood the system

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdHbPXNJvVE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSAbLRnGiWg

now i think its a better game then bayonetta.

also the final game is one of the longest (probably 2,5 times more content than bayonetta) most exhilarating games i have played this year.
