Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

No, not like everywhere else. Nowhere else do you have to call the console maker and beg them to allow you to download your purchases to a new console, and then if they decide you can, wait a day or two for them to activate it.
It's not like this at all. There's no begging involved. You verify some of your purchase history and they unsync your sw licenses.

Let's not pull info from our asses.

But that's not what the question was. Purchase tied to account = like everywhere else. Fact.

Not being able to move your account around willy nilly is an entirely different issue.

I so wish this console was $200...

When it is i'm so getting one

If you buy used, you can get amazing deals. For 200 you can find basic bundles with 5 or so games. If you buy a new Mario bundle for little over 250, you get two games with a retail value of 70 bucks included. There is also a Windwaker bundle, Monster Hunter and Lego City Stories bundle... if you care for either of those games, your console is basically (little over) 200.

Hmm seeing your posts in this makes me wonder why you're posting in this thread?

I just bought a Zelda Wii U bundle. Is it your assertion that to buy something I must immediately blind myself to all of its shortcomings? I bought a PS4 too. Should I pretend it's launch lineup wasn't awful?

Bullshit. You call. They make you verify info. Then they escalate your call to another group to see if they'll allow you to do the transfer, Name one other console/handheld/mobile device that makes you jump through so many idiotic hoops just to get back the games you already purchased.

Unless they have a massive supply sitting in storage somewhere ready to hit after the Holidays, I think it is going to be a long time before you get this price now that you've waited so long. You could've easily picked up a Wii U all year for 140~180 if you looked in the right spots (like eBay or amazon merchants). I've seen some sell as low as 110. Now they're like 270~330. The new bundles are even selling above retail. They're getting really close to the price customers are wanting to pay at $300.

Wasn't there a third party battery released a while back for the Gamepad that would increase the battery life by a lot? Is that a recommended purchase?

I got the Windwaker Bundle on Black Friday for 250 at Target plus they threw in a 25 dollar gift card. So pretty much a 200 dollar Wii U and a copy of Mario 3D World for 35 dollars. I couldnt have asked for more. There's deals to be had for people that want a Wii U. If it does get lowered to 200, I'm betting a lot of these people will move the goal posts once more and ask for a 99 dollar Wii U.

You can hate me then. =) I just bought a Wii U (Zelda bunduru) yesterday. Downloaded the demo for W101 and absolutely hated it. Won't touch the retail game at any price. I'll put the target on my forehead and you can feel free to take aim. I was also surprised at how god-awful Sonic is. I hadn't been following the game much, so I didn't know about the low reviews. I just knew it looked like Mario Galaxy, but man oh man is it not Mario Galaxy. Between Zelda, NSMBU+Luigi, Pikmin, and Mario 3D World, I won't need much else for awhile.

You're doing yourself a serious disservice not giving this game a second look.

So it's similar to Monster Hunter in that regard? Interesting. I may have to move Wonderful 101 a bit higher up on my list of games to buy.

Can you sign in using that NNID on another Wii U console and redownload a game you bought on your first console?

For reference, Monster Hunter3U is my other favorite game of the year, so yeah, I'd say they're similar in that what makes them great can't be demonstrated with a short demo. What makes them great is partially how rewarding they are when you put in the time to master their systems. These are some of the finest games ever in that regard in my opinion.

You're so full of shit, I've had to do this process twice. The escalation part is correct, but there's no begging or anything involved.

The second part of your post has fuck all to do with anything I even said.

That may be, but I'm not risking 50 dollars on a game that had a demo I disliked so much. And like I said, I have plenty of games to play.

Bullshit. The fact that they need to get approval for your transfer translates into you having to beg them to. And yes, the 2nd part of my post matters because it speaks to how incredibly inept Nintendo still is with anything related to accounts/internet, and plays a major role in the failure of the Wii U.

Are there ways to tell that I'm getting scammed if I buy a sealed bundle off someone from Kijiji?

I'm asking because this one guy is offering the Mario + Luigi bundle for only $250 cash. I told him I was interested, but could only meet up next week. He said he sold it already, but will have more by the time we meet next week. This makes me a little suspicious. Where exactly is he getting these Wii Us? For all I know, he could be selling me an empty Wii U box filled with bags of sand.

So is there a way to tell just by looking at the box, that it's been opened or the box looks fake or anything? Perhaps a sticker on top of the flap or something?

Completely understandable. Chances are you'll find a copy used after Xmas for around $10. If you're even slightly interested you should pick it up then. After some more time with it I think you'll find yourself delightfully surprised.

So cool to see this thread still pumpin and giving new people the chance to see that this system is indeed pretty fucking great.

I just realized that one of the probable reasons I was able to become so acclimated to the Pad is because I owned a GameGear as a kid. Loved that thing.

There is a Nyko battery for the US and Nintendo also released their own extended battery in Japan and Europe. Supposedly they are region agnostic.

lol @ getting approval means begging.

I guess if I get approved for my purchases at stores is because I begged them to complete the transaction.

That's what it felt like when I had to convince Microsoft to cancel my Xbox Live subscription a few years ago. I never want to experience that feeling again, so I avoid buying Nintendo's digital products. It sucks either way.

About Wii-U Pro Controller... What games would it be better to use that for compared to the Gamepad? Isn't the 2nd screen one of the best things about the system?

The gamepad's analog sticks have a small deadzone that doesn't affect most games, but does matter for stuff like Call of Duty. I felt myself improve a lot in BLOPS II after I got the pro.

The d-pad is also a bit tighter, I found it a lot more responsive in games like Super Ghouls n' Ghosts.

So, for some games like Wind Waker I prefer the pad because of the screen and the comfort of holding it, for others the pro.

Oh gotcha. Hmm. Might have to pick up one of the Pro controllers at some point then.

Where are you finding these deals?

Well, i bought a second hand Wii U on ebay two weeks ago (i bought it for a buddy as a present, i own one since launch) for 160 euro's, it included 2 wiimotes, 1 nunchuck, ZombiU and New Super Mario Bros U. The thing was barely used, everything in its original packaging. It was the basic bundle. Gaffers from the US have said (in this thread) that they were able to find deals, new, for 250 (with Zelda, premium pack) with an extra 25 dollar voucher as well...

There is no approval necessary when making a purchase.

Is there a Wii U [OT]? Tried to search but couldn't find. :F

What are your feelings about Wii U skins? I was thinking about buying something like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nq6dLcohvns

Console OTs aren't allowed. Which is dumb but hey ... thisisneogaf.gif

This is the closest to it together with Wii U Games 2013. NeoGAF's policy advices against mega threads so that's why there are no console OT's for example. Of course certain threads tend to adopt that position anyway.

Stating that you purchased a new console and need to tranfer your content isn't begging.

And no, it doesn't matter because it isn't addressing anything I'm even saying.

Just been trying zombi u again. I think I need another game because I can't handle this.

Shit is intense man. Playing at night with the lights off is the way to go.

Such a great game. I wish it wasn't a launch title and so more polished or there was going to be a sequel. So much potential for a sequel

Put me into the camp of people disliking the demo of W101. Still, might give it a chance some day. What really put me off is that the framerate seems to be all over the place.

Just wanted to chime in, I have to send in my system for repair, and Nintendo reassured me that there will be no issues with accessing/redownloading my content even if they have to provide a replacement. I know in the past that you had to call back, but he assured me that you don't. So maybe they are listening maybe not. It's not that big of a deal. They are getting better, just not perfect.

Why are you telling me this? I never stated anything to the contrary, and I don't think I gave you any reason to treat me like an idiot.

You said you had to go through a terrible (what felt like) begging process to cancel your XBL sub and that's why you don't buy eShop stuff. I'm telling you this because why does this prevent you from buying stuff digitally? Do you keep your consoles in the yard where they get wet or stolen? Why is this an issue to the degree that it prevents you from buying anything digitally on the eShops?

it's still a hassle that shouldn't exist

Nobody ever said otherwise.

They are definitely listening. NoA knows what people want. Problem is they can't facilitate it without going through NCL in Japan and that is a long and annoying process.

I invited my 35 years old brother and his wife for dinner yesterday, we spent the night on Mario 3D World, Wii Party U and Game & Wario => they get a Wii U for Christmas.

Today my 28 years old cousin came with his girlfriend to keep my girls, they played Mario for 2 hours => they are getting a Wii U for Christmas.

Something definitely changed, at the very least around me :)

Probably because those games are more accessible to them. Either way, that's great! My family still think it's just a Wii accessory, accept for my parents and sister. I actually showed them what makes it different from the Wii.

I'm not usually into Zombie stuff in all honesty, but I saw this for super-cheap and was interested due to the price alone plus word of mouth...

Might pick up this and the WiiU version of Tekken Tag 2 I saw for like 15 bucks sometime this week. :-o

Did I do well?

you should really give the game a second look

I wasnt that high on W101 either. the graphics never really looked that great and while the idea of having 100 small dudes mash up into one big hand or sword seemed interesting the demo made me really think that the game will be bad

however I watched these videos of a guy called saur and i finally understood the system

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdHbPXNJvVE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSAbLRnGiWg

now i think its a better game then bayonetta.

also the final game is one of the longest (probably 2,5 times more content than bayonetta) most exhilarating games i have played this year.

This is fantastic. Thanks for the link.

Did I do well?

Damn well!

I know it's probably only fellow Gaffers picking up the Wonderful 101, but at least some people are picking it up. I'd love it to trend upward as a sleeper hit, instead of a failure all around. Kind of how Zombi U has started getting the respect it deserves around the community as well.

Hey is there any way to turn off all that shit on your screen when you turn on the system? All the running mii and pop up messages?

I just want a list if at all possible thanks.
