Also why are people acting like this is E3? None of the other reveals are big or mind-blowing... And yet Nintendo is supposed to drop bombs?

This isn't even that big of a thing.

Because other video game companies show new games at a yearly event which lots of people who play video games watch?

Anyway, looking forward to another "It's F'n Donkey Kong" thread on the front page.

I demand to be named prophet if it is indeed Donkey Kong, even if there were othera before me.

I'd like to think that Nintendo reads GAF and Twitter and whatnot and realizes Cranky has leaked and they need to get their shit in there with a big exclusive. I can't believe that Geoff would let Nintendo join if he didn't think they had a worthwhile showing.

The expectations are justified, in the past the VGA's has revealed the likes of Uncharted, The Last of Us, Mass Effect, Elder Scrolls, and Dark Souls games. Some of the biggest IP in the industry have gotten their first reveal there so many would have thought that Nintendo showing up would be a big deal.

Now everybody is hating again Donkey Kong again. Of course has Nintendo to advertise their NEXT big game to sell some consoles. Its that easy. The tried to do something else with the january direct with all those title that are in development...but it didnt turned out to gather any interest, so their back to their old strategy. So its kind of normal that they act like that and just show Donkey Kong.

I'm not hating on DK. I don't think any body is. The game looks great. But the way to move systems is not by showing you have yet another platformer (especially to the VGX audience). And they just showed like 10 minutes of gameplay the other day on GTTV. If they are going out of their way to show something at an event like VGX, I would like to hope it is because they are showing a game that appeals to that crowd. They could just show DK in a Nintendo Direct or on commercials or something, they don't need to have a trailer in VGX, they've already been showing the game off plenty.

Sad thing is we'll still be disappointed even if we go in expecting that. Remember E3?

In terms of game's shown, I thought E3 2013 was fine, but what it lacked was really just surprise announcements which is really what we all love most about E3. Nintendo already spoiled most of the surprise by showing us that big January Direct video and one for 3DS April Direct too. We already knew about Bayonetta 2 since September 2012's Direct as well. Had Nintendo kept all of this stuff a secret for E3, then it would have been full of surprises for us. This includes titles for 3DS too, like A Link Between Worlds and Pokemon X&Y. With that said, there were some lukewarm responses to E3 trailers for Super Mario 3D World (which didn't do it justice until the 2nd trailer was shown in October), and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze was sort of looked down upon because fans wanted to see Retro Studios go back to Metroid or do something else. However, it still would have been a better traditional E3 than 2011 or 2012's for Nintendo.

There have been reveals in the past so it was possible up until recently that Nintendo could have shown something new.

I was referring mainly to Retro's reveal and people's expectations prior, but yeah I thought E3 2013 was decent. The amount of outburst was crazy.

Guys, they showed and talked about donkey kong on the very night reggie fucking teased something, its not donkey kong.

You say that but it's hard to say.

The thing with DKC:TF is that I think it's a game I want to play. It's not a game I want to see. I don't think I'm alone here either. I do recognize the fact that they need to sell it but I think they need something to sell the Wii U more. You know something like Zelda U or great looking Metroid even. Something they won't likely have. Consider the audience. This audience won't give a fuck about Cranky Kong to put it bluntly.

Convinced this is Donkey Kong now.
For better or worse, Nintendo Live Events always tend to be far less exciting in terms of MEGATONZ than the Nintendo Directs.

Hmm. Well for me at least this is a sad disappointment. At this point I've personally seen enough of Nintendo's announced titles, and would have much prefered a new game. Given it was at VGX I had hoped they would use this opportunity to try and impress hardcore.

Yes DKCR will certainly impress a certain group of HC, but I don't believe it will do anything to sell people who don't already know and love Retro's take on DKRC.

I'm not getting my hopes up. I'll watch it for fun, just in case anything big happens, but I doubt it's any huge reveal.

Of course, the fanboy in me wants Zelda or Metroid U reveal.

The best thing would be Reggie getting on stage, and then saying that he was surprised about the positive reactions that the Nintendoland Fireworks got and then doing the same thing again, smiling

*laughs at those hyping themselves for X or Zelda*

The best we can hope for is Mario Kart, Smash, or Bayonetta.

If we get Donkey Kong, I will laugh.

No one is hating on DK. It looks like a great game however it's not the appropriate game to be showing off as something new at an event like the VGX. This isn't E3. This thing attracts a very particular audience and is catered to that audience. An audience that Nintendo actually needs to attract for a number of their own games (internally made or funded) to do well. All Nintendo is going to end up getting is laughed at if they show up with with a video announcing a new character for Donkey Kong.

I don't need to see more of those three. New stuff is what Nintendo need to show to get people excited.

Agreed. Zelda could excite the base, but even then, everyone knows it's coming. Nintendo really needs something that doesn't feel so... predictable. Between their troubles with HD and their conservative software strategy, I seriously doubt their ability or willingness to make that sort of a splash.

On one hand, Donkey Kong would be a silly reveal to hype up when they could effortlessly just make a trailer for a new Smash Bros character instead.

But on the other, being Donkey Kong would fit the marketing roll out and continue the trend of NoJ giving western publications (and NoA) nothing to work with from the japanese developed games.

This isn't even that big of a thing.

Skyrim was revealed three years ago. Last year had Dark Souls 2 reveal and Phantom Pain.

My money is on either X or Smash Brothers. Donkey Kong seems like it's targeted at a way different audience than people viewing and attending VGX.

Also, I can't imagine Geoff even inviting them to the event without something that resonate with that kind of audience.

I'm sure he would have for purely political reasons. He was given an opportunity to have Nintendo come to the show, and he isn't going to turn them back simply because it will attract the Nintendo diehard to watching the VGX, and also because hopefully showing some goodwill towards Nintendo will have them come back in later years.

I'd be down for a new MK8 trailer if it showed some new stuff. Or if they rebranded it Mario Kart: Double Dash 2.

Is it just me or does anyone else get the feeling Geoff and Reggie don't get along? Every interaction they've ever been in seems super forced.

Well yes we know Zelda's coming, but we don't know how awesome that it'll be. If they manage to unveil it in all its glory, then it doesn't matter if we know it's coming, we'll want it anyway.

If Nintendo shows up with something wrong for the event and just gets negative press out of it they likely won't be back. Here's hoping they should up with something appropriate and that's been expressed to them by Geoff.

I don't think so. Nintendo needs to show their POWER titles and how they've improved them.

Showing Smash with an incredible online system with tons of new features will hold more weight than a new title no one knows about on a system not many people have.

I conferenced with EatChildren and I'm afraid his conclusion might make too much sense.

Nirolak: EatChildren: oh god it's really cranky kong isnt it
EatChildren: yes
EatChildren: note that Reggie said to Geoff he'd be at VGX
EatChildren: in a Donkey Kong specific episode of Game Trailers
EatChildren: THIS IS THE BIG FOLLOW UP
EatChildren: they probably filmed it on the same day

My favorite was when Geoff asked Reggie if he was sad about the Wii U sales at E3. They must have some kind of good relationship because their interviews are often hilarious.

Did you speak for EatChildren or did both of you say the exact same thing?

But yeah, that's the same conclusion I drew. Oh well.
