I could ask you why do you think it's not?

But I think it's so for many reasons. First of all it features before unseen gameplay utilizing the GamePad. The whole theme park thing goes for a long way of separating it from other Nintendo franchises. If we go strictly by definition the moment they decided to call it "Nintendo Land" and trademark it makes it an IP.

It does use existing Nintendo IP's but then again so does something like Super Smash Bros.

If it's Donkey Kong.

If that happens, then I expect great things from you Sammy

Is someone compiling posts in here to do a wall of shame? Because if Nintendo ends up showing off something other than Donkey Kong, a lot of people up in here deserve to be laughed at, made fun of, ridiculed, and have their posts up for everyone to read.

Why does there have to a shaming involved?

This is Nintendo. They're controlled by a bunch of dudes at NCL who are clueless as to what the western media wants. They rarely give out exclusive coverage of anything to the western press, let alone trailers of EAD games. They barely even know how to hype their own games anymore, looking at how they treated GOTY contenders ALBW and SM3DW up until a month before release (it's like they've forgotten what they did for TP and Brawl). And Reggie was just on the show a week ago to promote DKC, so it wouldn't be surprising they taped something there for the next week too.

It's more reasonable than not at this point to assume it's DKC.

Ha that is impossible, the DKC games have already been de-listed from virtual console!
I shed a tear, never got to download DKC3

Duh, it's so they can be revealed for the Wii U virtual console at VGX after Cranky is shown. It will be Reggie's "before I go" moment. All three SNES games on the eShop after the show for the amazing price of $9.99 each. It is the same game. It is the same content.

Some people take message board posts to heart. I agree with what you said, though, I'm not expecting DKC :p

I think by now Nintendo has earned the skepticism.

I still don't get how the PR changed anything for what we know.
We pretty much new it would be an already announced game.

Unfortunately, I don't know if I can stay up for when Reggie takes on NoA Twitter account (dat much different time frame), but I hope people here will seriously ask "Will the new look at this game make us go banana?" or something like that. Asking without asking directly, you know...

There wasn't any real evidence prior to the new PR that said what their surprise was. Now we know it's a new look at an upcoming game, meaning something we've seen prior.

People are pretty much confirming that this is DK based on some updated box art cover and the fact that there was a tweet confirming a "new look at an upcoming Wii U game". The insanity of some gamers is so insane that they will take that quote, and go through extreme lengths to reach and determine that there's a correlation.

That's just crazy to me, it really is.....to conclude that a title being that is being shown is based on this seriously inconclusive "evidence" we have.

Unfortunately I am living in 2013

Remember when Nintendo thought Nintendo Land would be a sufficient finale for E3 2012 and they spent like 5 minutes explaining a fucking Luigi's Mansion minigame? Also remember the entirety of E3 2012 and to a lesser extent ND E3 2013?

I conferenced with EatChildren and I'm afraid his conclusion might make too much sense.

Nirolak: EatChildren: oh god it's really cranky kong isnt it
EatChildren: yes
EatChildren: note that Reggie said to Geoff he'd be at VGX
EatChildren: in a Donkey Kong specific episode of Game Trailers
EatChildren: THIS IS THE BIG FOLLOW UP
EatChildren: they probably filmed it on the same day

It is worth noting that EatChildren and Nirolak did heavily fuel the fires of the Mario Kart/Retro studios rumour which seemed to exist exclusively to troll Nintendo fans back at E3. Of course even the most die hard of trolls would never make such brash statements, let alone believe them.. If Donkey Kong is truly what is being shown at Nintendo's first appearance at the VGX's then I will hazard to say that it is the worst entertainment decision they have ever made.

Some of us were being sarcastic. Others are just lowering their expectation. Nothing is confirmed of course and everyone knows that. Don't take to heart what they're saying.

I remember one date very well: 23.1.2013.

Happy about this. Finally people will not hype
It's freaking Geoff Keighley. Nintendo announced DKC Tropical Freeze at E3. Keighley laments it not being a 4th Metroid Prime. Drills Reggie about Smash not being playable.

Whatever news Nintendo is going to give him now would only be about as important as the one we got.

Yes. And I like to believe they've learned from those experiences and Wii U sales.

I dont think i would concider NintendoLand as a new IP because the property used in the game (a big part of it at least) is based on property that is not new. I see it the same way like Smash Bros as you mentioned, or Playstation Allstar Battle Royale and Little Big Karting as well. They are all new games, but the property that are used in the game is not new (for the most part at least). Nothing wrong with that, the games can still be great, but i just wondered regarding new IP or not =)

Cool, yeah I have given this some thought and the points you make are completely valid. Well I think what truly matters is that Nintendo Land is still a fun game whether you consider it a new IP or not. The latter part is rather irrelevant.

Not like this

:(

People like to get excited when the presumably more realistic alternative is rather underwhelming. It's hardly an indication of their intelligence, more like naivity on their part.

Naive is a little too soft for my tastes. After the continual and baffling inability to grasp the concept that the likes of Nintendo Directs (for example) are mere press releases in video form and not "Megaton/Hype Directs" demonstrated by gamers and the resulting endless whining and bitching when their idiotic wish lists and fantasies don't come to fruition, I reserve the right to not overestimate their cognitive abilities. :/

Anyways, time to bail from this thread before it gets real nasty.

So it's a game we already know about.

Probably Smash Bros or Mario Kart 8.

Projext X would be a nice surprise though, but Nintendo probably wants to focus on its big sellers.

Think about Nintendo's marketing strategy for the majority of their titles (even their biggest) over the last 4-5 years.

How they seem to not give a shit, then suddenly go all out for a particular game a month or two before launch.

How they fail to generally build hype for anything the way they did with Brawl or TP (and before you even mention it, Smash 4's marketing has been way more lowkey than Brawl).

Take that precedent and answer this question: what's the next game on their calendar, releasing in two months?

I honestly don't feel like I'm exaggerating when I say that it felt like fifteen minutes. It was a mind boggling finale.

Edit: Just checked and the whole Nintendoland finale took just over 14 minutes.

Yeah, I seriously wonder what Nintendo are thinking sometimes when they plan an E3 conference.

It'd be so easy to make a killer show! Acknowledge all the memes and just go with it. Game after game after game. If they don't have enough to show just put an extended gameplay demo there or something.
