Here's the original image, in case people wanted it.
ROFL
Poor DK, that's a lot of people.anything to keep Retro Studios from fucking Donkey Kong.
I just get a little confused when people act like companies owe them something.
Despite actually working in the industry, I still get excited when I just see new things. Regardless of what it is. Yah! fun! Maybe I'm too old school now. Which is sad. Because I'm not that old, ha.
Amen.
The Smash Brothers thread is a prime example.
Sakurai is releasing a new screenshot EVERY DAY(except for the weekend) and many comments are "it's nothing!".
The entitled nature of modern society gets sad at times.
Be thankful what you get, not what you think you should get.
It doesn't officially but I'd say that rules out Zelda.
So it's either Smash or DK. Smash makes more sense to me.
I just get a little confused when people act like companies owe them something.
So? They can make what they're fucking paid to make or fuck off.
Nintendo don't have any other studios that can produce the types of games Retro developed like Metroid Prime, yet they have plenty of people available that can bang out a 2D platformer whether first or second party.

Yes, focusing on another 2D platformer with the big reveal being a 4th playable character would really do wonders for the core gamer audience in N.A.
If Donkey Kong is the big reveal Nintendo deserves all the mocking they get for being out of touch.
Except that the fact that the Smash thread being constantly on page 1 since its inception speaks highly of the fans' anticipation - just read their posts; yeah, they are Smash maniacs now and then, but all in all they are super excited for the title which is the best thing Sakurai can ask for
A character reveal in a Nintendo Direct video would be nice, a character reveal on a big stage shared with many good developers would be embarrassing

I do want to point out that while I wasn't disappointed with Donkey Kong being Retro's next game, I definitely DON'T want to see the game at the VGX. Terrible decision if they decided to do that.
Uuhhh companies EXIST for the consumer, so they can make money. The most important thing a business can have is loyalty. Where the fuck do people with this mentality that the customer is not close to 100% right come from?

Tell that to Yoshi's Island 2 and the upcoming 3DS game.
I think he's talking about people who want companies do what they want over what other consumers are interested in and see anything else as the company offending them.
Eh, that's the major problem. I don't doubt the hypotetic footage from Cranky Kong reveal trailer will be great, and the game looks great, but Donkey Kong can't be shown at an event like VGX, especially in the current Wii U state. Bayonetta 2? Perfect. X? Fantastic. Smash Bros.? Great. Donkey Kong? Unfortunately, nope.
Why do people like us understand this, but not who directly works at Nintendo (NCL, NOA, whoever decides such initiatives)?
Seriously, the more time passes, the more the fact that I'd really, really want to speak to them about my ideas becomes a sort of a need, because I see them as a dead-man-walking on the home front, I'm worried about the future, and I'm fuc*ing sure my opinion would heavily help and be better than what some of the BoDs over there thinks. It's highly irrational, but I seriously want to do fucking something concrete, and not just whining about it on forums and watching them making the same mistakes again, and again, and again...and again, and again...and again, without having the possibility to share with them what I think could be better ideas / strategies.
...Sorry for the little rant, but, recently, I'm feeling much less subjective to this industry, look at how I reacted in the PAL thread about Guardian not giving us shares anymore right during One and PS4 launches, and this is even more evident in Nintendo's case, since I'm a Nintendo fan.. Sorry again.
Bold Prediction: Nintendo bought the IP right to Demon's Souls from Sony. Demon's Soul 2 to be Wii U exclusive.
Do not do this.
Amen.

I think the main point from most of the posters in this thread is that the consumers watching this show will not give a crap about Donkey Kong.
If the announcement does end up DKCTF hopefully Nintendo can pull a "Super Mario 3D World" and have everyone with a negative opinion do a 180.
Do people actually think that the millions of people that bought DKC on Wii, were actually aware that the game was made by Retro before they bought it? Do people really think no other internal studio could have done just as good a job or better? They needed Retro to fill the void in their line-up on their new console, that no other 1st party studio could fill. Instead, they let them do another DKC game, a genre which at least 2 other internal studio's have more experience with and would likely do at the very least, just as good. It's like Jungle Beat never happened. And that game should have made something clear: Donkey Kong isn't a platform seller.
A new look...

New art style.. maybe?

What????
Not as much as themselvesDoes anyone else get the feeling that Geoff and Reggie secretly hate each other?
Consumers watching this show do not give a crap about Nintendo, period.
I think the whole thing is a demographic mismatch. Nothing they could show would rouse the interest of anyone who was not specifically watching for it.
As a common poster and reader of that thread, I wish it was mostly Ridley speculation. It's mostly silliness and pointless crap. There are occasional good posts, but aren't very common at all. What? Some of the Ridley speculation is fantastic
That line of thinking didn't work out well for NSMBU unfortunately. I think Nintendo should know another 2D platformer on their first HD system is a poor use of talent such as Retro's.
all this is cool and all but Retro wanted to make a sequel. They wanted to make it and Nintendo allowed them to. What is the big deal here?
C'mon, DKCR is one of the most well designed side scrolling platformers ever. To say Retro are wasting their talent on a sequel is ridiculous. If people don't like DK then that's fine, but don't say Retro are wasting their time with Tropical Freeze.

Either that was PR bullshit and they were being loyal with that answer or they were telling the truth and Nintendo should have said "no". Do you really think all those other studio's can just decide on their own what games they will be making?

That's what happens when you hand off key franchises to any development team, not difficult to understand.
